<img src=newspaper.gif border=0> Mortal Kombat 3 included in Midway Arcade Treasures II

yeah your right Ermacwins,
but MK4 was an arcade game and I hope it will make it in the Midway classics... I can sound annoying but if they would put a perfect arcade port of MK4 as well, I would be so freaking happy!!!

ErmacWins Wrote: I really can't decide which is better news - the announcement of MK6 and seeing some impressive screenshots or the announcement of arcade ports of MK's 1, 2, and possibly 3 for the next-gen consoles (something I've been wanting to happen for a long time) in a single package. It's definitely been an exciting past couple weeks! By the way.. MK Gold and MK Trilogy definitely won't be on any ''Midway Arcade Treasures'' compilation, because neither of them were arcade games. MK Gold might make a nice re-release on a MK Kompilation disc for the next-gen consoles since so many of us MK gamers never bought a Dreamcast. But MK Trilogy would make a horrible re-release on any compilation in my opinion cause both the PS1 and N64 versions sucked and didn't add anything new or worthwhile to the series. They should have just done a Kompilation instead. I do have one very good question though, and I encourage everyone to think about this for a minute. Will morphing be intact in the MK games and will they be free of loading times on ''Midway Arcade Treasures 2?'' It seems that this was such a big issue in the past with disc-based systems, so it makes me wonder how Midway will address that problem this time around. |
You have a very valid point there, ErmacWins. But MKT was an upgrade from MK3 and Midway could easily bring it to arcade quality. Since UMK3 was also an upgrade from MK3 and was brought to arcades, I don't think it'd be a problem putting MKT in arcade standards. As far as the load times, that shouldn't be a problem. These 128 bit machines are 2 to 4 times better and faster than their 32/64 bit predecessors. If they put any MK games on there it should be MK1, MK2, MKT (MK3 and UMK3 upgrade), and MKG (MK4 upgrade). That would make my retro Kombat worthwhile. And yes, I do want to see arcade pixel perfect ports.

I have thought about the morphing problem for years, any of the current consoles have the ram ability to load an entire romset of MK1, MK2, MK3, or UMK3 into memory, so there should be zero loading time completely once the game starts up. If they choose not to go ahead and load the complete games at a time, they better at least load all the characters because in this day and age, limited morphs is just dumb. It would be a huge disappointment, and a major reason not to get it (loading time in general is completely unnecessary). Let's just hope if and when it happens, they'll do it right. An arcade quality MKT could really be something else, I would love to see that on a kompilations game.

I reeeeeeeeeally hope it's MK3
UMK3, to an extent, and ESPECIALLY MKT and UMK3 on SNES was really unbalanced.
Mk3 was really exciting... I remember Smoke being sooo cool and on PSX there being a code for him that was awesome
Do you people think that Shang Tsung will have to load morphs again?

MK3 was stupid unbalanced, there's more contenders in UMK3 than MK3.
I just addressed the morph issue, it's either going to be completely perfect, or completely stupid.

The original news posting is updated with the news that MK3 IS confirmed; however, it is not known yet whether it is MK3 or UMK3.
For those wondering, it's extremely doubtful MK Trilogy would be included, as it was only released for home platforms.

if MK4 is not in it its not worth buying IMO, you can buy MKTrilogy for the PSX and play it on your PS2 and its almost the same thing.

OMG OMG OMG
NO IT'S _NOT_ the same freaking thing!
MK Trilogy was just like a super super balanced version of MK3 with all the characters.......
there is a real magic in playing MK1 by itself, or MK2 by itself.....

I wouldn't mind if UMK3 was released on the disc, as long as MK3 was there too. The AI in UMK 3 and MKT is horrible. There's already another thread on that, so I won't get into that here.
As long as MK 1, 2, and 3 is in there, I'm happy. I'd like UMK 3 to be in as well, but only if it doesn't replace MK 3. So basically MK 1, 2, 3, and UMK 3.
A perfect port of MK 4 would be nice too, but that'll probably end up being Arcade Treasures 3.

In MKT, on top of the already existing deadly cast of top tier in UMK3, a good number of the new characters are contenders.
Starting with UMK3, you have Kabal, Human Smoke, Nightwolf, Robot Smoke, Ermac, and MK3 Kung Lao is the only one who was dramatically toned down, and it's only for lack of spinning ability. Don't forget MK3 Kano and MK3 Jax, they are up there too
Then you have Noob Saibot, Rain, MK2 Kung Lao, and Baraka, all of which are contenders for top tier in MKT. Out of 32 (not including bosses and Kamelian) you have 12 characters who are playable against eachother. Compared to a game like MvC, which has 56 characters, and most tournys you only see 4 or 5, that's a lot more balanced than MvC2.
