Kung Lao was the first to find the body of his friend and fellow Shaolin monk Liu Kang. He later discovered that it was in fact Shang Tsung who had dealt the fatal blow. Enraged, Kung Lao abandoned his Shaolin beliefs and vowed revenge against the sorcerer. He knew that his fighting skill would not be sufficient to best Shang Tsung. He would need training from the same Outworld master who had taught Liu Kang the one special attack he needed to win the Mortal Kombat tournament so many years ago.
Kung Lao traveled to Outworld and informed the martial arts master, Bo' Rai Cho, of Liu Kang's death at the hands of the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Devastated by the news, the old master agreed to teach Kung Lao the flying kick Liu Kang had used to defeat Shang Tsung a decade ago. The training was intense, but Bo' Rai Cho was determined to give Kung Lao a greater edge than he had given Liu Kang. Once Kung Lao had mastered he
'Whirlwind Kick', both he and Bo' Rai Cho journeyed across Outworld to deal with the sorcerer Shang Tsung.
These are the Bio's for Kung Lao in MK:DA (original and Alternate). The first one most likely happened but the second most definately did not.

"During the years that Shang Tsung had sponsored the Mortal Kombat tournaments on Earth, the Outworld master Bo' Rai Cho was secretly training warriors for competition. It is even speculated that it was he who brought the fighting style of Drunken Boxing to Earthrealm. After many years, he finally discovered the Shaolin monk Liu Kang and taught him the martial arts moves he needed to defeat Shang Tsung. Later, with the tournament securely in the hands of the Shaolin, his teachings were no longer needed and he returned to Outworld. Bo' Rai Cho had been unable to compete against Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat tournament on Earth. His Outworld birthplace guaranteed that his victory would have been in the name of Shao Kahn. But the conflict this time was not a tournament to prevent an evil emperor from consuming another realm. This time the battle was to save his own realm from the tyranny of two evil sorcerers. Nothing could hold him back from the challenge that lay before him. The wrath of Bo' Rai Cho would be unleashed once again."
That is Bo's bio from DA. NOTHING ABOUT KUNG.
"I have dealt with Tarkatan warriors before. Baraka and his mutant thugs were easy to evade as I entered Shang Tsung's palace to rescue Li Mei. I had arrived not a moment too soon. I snatched her away from the Deadly Alliance and swiftly carried her to safety. An alarm was sounded, and hordes of Tarkatan warriors pursued us across the main bridge. On the other side of the palace bridge, I was met by Earthrealm's thunder god, Raiden, and his band of heroes marching to battle the Deadly Alliance. I bid them a glorious victory, but my primary concern was Li Mei's safety. I have since learned of the disaster that took place at the palace. The Dragon King had indeed returned, as legends foretold. Without our Earthrealm allies, I fear for Outworld's future."
That is his bio from Deception, again nothing about Kung. In fact it states in plain english that he met Raiden and his band of heros after he rescued Li Mei. A direct contradiction to Kung's bio in DA where Kung met Bo, trained with him and traveled with him to fight the DA.

MK DA 's Konquest I think with both Kung Lao and Bo Rai Cho mentions Liu Kang. Lung Lao went to Bo Rai Cho to learn the famous flying kick Liu Kang used to beat Shang in the 1st MKgame.. I could have sworn {}ombat used to have a MK: DA konquest print out sticked on top of MK: DA forum when there was one.
Becouse it takes place after they left for Shang Tsungs palace or Quan Chi's fortress. Remember, they wen't separate ways at one point. And that is where the story continues in MKD.
Bo left to save Li Mei while the others marched to failure. They met on the
bridge, but Bo insisted on bringin Li mei to safety. If he would sacrifice Li Meis life, maybe one of the sorcerors or both would have fallen.
Bo' Rai Cho is the most powerfull warrior alive.

I remember Kitana being in this picture, after Kung Lao had trained hard with Bo' Rai Cho. I remember in Konquest mode, I don't remember which character either Bo' Rai Cho or Kung Lao it stated that Kung Lao ran into Kitana along with Bo' Rai Cho and they headed for Shang Tsung's palace.
I believe on the journey there Kung Lao and Kitana managed to loose Bo' Rai Cho and they joined Raiden and the other Earthrealm warriors right before the final assault on Shang Tsung's palace. Bo' Rai Cho managed to make it to Shang Tsung's palace also but not with everyone else, and I believe that is when Bo' Rai Cho rescued Li Mei from the Deadly Alliance's spell and managed to escape Shang Tsung's palace with his life intact.
As for Kung Lao he was vanquished along with his former allies by the Tarkata and the combined strength of the Deadly Alliance.

Didn't Kung Lao and Kitana both go to get trained by Bo' Rai Cho? I don;t remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure in someone's Konquest, Kung Lao goes to Outworld and informs Kitana that Liu Kang died. Then he tells her he's going to find Bo' Rai Cho and get trained by him and she joins him.
I do remember in Bo' Rai Cho's Konquest, it describes his training Kung Lao and Kitana, although Kitana was put off by Bo' Rai Cho. She thought he was disgusting.

"Remember they went separte ways?" When in any part of the story did it say they went there separate ways?
In Konquest (Bo's, Kung's, and Kitana's), it says they trained and traveled together. which we know now they didn't.
Now if we ASSUME, when the earth warriors traveled throught the portal to Outworld they ended upin different area's (Like when Quan, Scorpion, Moloch and drahmin traveled to outworld) that might make sense.
Kung is separated from the others but finds Kitana. he informs her of Liu's fate and she decided to travel with him. they find Bo' and tell him what happened to Liu and he decideds to train them. When training is completed (or maybe they were called away early by Raiden, remember Kung's ending states while fighting Shang he FINALLY masters the whirlwing kick), they travel to the meet with the warriors of Earth to mount the assualt on Shang's palace. While traveling, Bo' hears of Li Mei (maybe he knows her, or she is a friend of a friend) and decideds to go his own way and save her.
But none of that is fact, only speculation.
