MAT2 is a VALUE game. 20 games, a dollar a game. quit crying

riddict and Methuselah6463, you guys are absolute and completely idiots. Now, instead of ranting, or making huge unending paragraphs in all caps, I will highlight the points of the argument at hand:
-Midway SPECIFICALLY, in numerous ads, interviews, and press releasese, EMPHASIZED as a SELLING POINT for the games, that they would be arcade perfect. The simple fact is that the games are not arcade perfect; moreover, they are far from arcade perfect. It would have been one thing if they had just said the game would include arcade emulations or arcade "versions" of the game, but "arcade perfect" is a term reserved for perfection - that which these games are clearly not.
- I don't care if I spent $20 for 20 games. The fact is, they sold a product to the public that wasn't complete. I can't play a single game on my PS2 MAT2 without encountering huge glitches and problems. MKII and MKIII are so far off they aren't worth playing, Pit FIghter is a joke, Primal Rage is completely broken and freezes often, and there are a host of other problems with other games. The fact is, had the game been represented correctly and honestly, I never would have bought it. I feel swindled.
-MK2KungBroken is correct. It is a simple fact of mathematics that MKII and MKIII could easily be emulated to play on the PS2 or Xbox. The hardware they used to run in the arcades on had the equivalent of about 50 mhz, from the research I've done.
-Ultimately, value game or not, MAT2 is not presented as advertised (ESPECIALLY ON THE PS2). Plain and simple. I don't care how much the games cost, and I don't care about a host of things. It is unacceptable for Midway to do waht they did. You people who are saying we should be grateful that they released this - that's bs. Why should be we be grateful that they are profiting off of medicre incomplete sh!t.
Also, in regards to those who complain about MAME roms - this was Midway's chance to make something worth switching over from MAME for - and they failed miserably. Let's remember that a team of programmers, working for free, designed an emulator in shorter time than Midway had, to emlulate hundreds of different arcade hardware sets, and do a better job of it than Midway to boot.
Midway had zero game development costs here. THey had the roms pre-made. THe $20 you are spending is simply to defray their emulation costs and ultimately produce profit. Hell, I bet if we all paid the makers of MAME $20, they'd find a way to run every old arcade game on our PSIIs, and run them much better.

Is it true that the game freeze when we play Primal Rage?
And what does 'broken' mean?

so far off they aren't worth playing? i have the xbox, version, and yeah, though it has shadow issues, which i never notice unless i make myself notice it. cause my whole life playing these games, i've never looked at my shadow just to play. i just focus on the task at hand. and its so minor, jeez. yes the sound in 3 isn't fabulous, but on my xbox version, its sounds 100 % better than trilogy on n64 thats for sure. so thats good enough in my book. i paid 50 bucks for that back in the day. also, the mk2 emulation is great, except for the shadow thing, plays excellent for me. shitloads better than snes, and definately better than genesis. even beats out the saturn mk2 eventhough that one had next to no sound effects. so the sound in this is a dream compared to that. and it's the closest to arcade on a home console. i know they said arcade perfect, and since when has midway really delivered on their word , except for the day they annouced mk2 back in 1993. cause since mk3, i haven't fully trusted them since. so when i hear arcade perfect from them, it just say to myself, yeah right, theres always something bout these damn 2d mk games that keeps it from being arcade perfect. assholes. but i've dealt with it since 1995, so whats another day now. and they don't listen, they will continue to do things their way. tey falseafied ads, so wy not just sue them? have an arcade unit handy, then side by side show them. don't know if you could actually do that, but if you really are furious give it a shot. since the game was only 20 bucks, and i paid shitloads more than that for super nes and sega versions of mk 2 and 3 when they came out, this is definately the closest to the arcade. i think maybe you guys should bash midway and not so much the game cause it really ain't all that bad. it just ain't what they preached. therefore bash them. cause i like the game. best home versions yet. you can take my comments as water under the bridge or you can see where i'm coming from. no biggie to me cause i'm not in here too often to really read up alot. just seen this thread and its replies and just thought it seemed the game was getting bashed for midway's stupidness, when midway should be getting bashed, cause the games ok in my book. thanks . later.

OK ..you guys are getting technical and if you want me to get technical fine so be it i will..Let us take what midway said and had every right to say without a lie to the word. They said it would be a aracde perfect game..Now here somes the interesting question...did they say which version of the arcade game they would releasing?...hmmm NOPE THEY DIDN'T.. had they released lets say a "ARCADE PERFECT GAME" of the MK2 you would have gotten the following problems and i quote from the MK bible on this very site..
Version 1.1
Released ?
* First version released to the public even though unfinished.
(Midway was pressured due to the release of Capcom's Super
Street Fighter II.)
* Contained almost all moves and approximately 9 fatalities.
* Kintaro and Shao Kahn nearly impossible to defeat without cheating
(Kintaro could be beat by repeatedly pressing a punch button
throughout the fight, Shao Kahn only by throwing missile weapons.)
* No character epilogues.
* Baraka's blade fury has no sound.
* Shang Tsung could walk on the ceiling.
Now had they released this "ARCADE PERFECT version." They would not be lieing because this was the first ARCADE VERSION of the game to come out. So lets move on.
Version 1.4
Released ?
* Mileena's roll move added.
* Kung Lao's flying kick added.
* Sub-Zero could do the first part of his Deep Freeze fatality during match.
* Danger indicator added.
* This version contained many but not all aspects of version
2.1. Since version 1.4 was not widely circulated, those
changes will be listed under version 2.1.
Now this was the second version of the game to be released to the public..IN ARCADES.. meaning this was a arcade pefect version of the game. Now this is also what we did not get on MAT2..but lets move on again..
Version 3.1
Released ?
* More blood added.
(Example: Blood added when opponent is punched in the face;
Kung Lao's hat throw.)
* Dead Pool fatality added.
* Noob Saibot added.
* Raiden's uppercut fatality added.
* Kung Lao's friendship added.
* Computer intelligence increased.
* Computer can do missile weapons in mid air.
* Babality/Friendship glitch fixed.
(Example: Multiple babalities, babality to friendship, baby
mutiliation.)
* Repeated punches in the corner fixed.
* Kitana's multiple fan lifts in the corner fixed.
* Sub-Zero's freeze - punch - freeze - punch... fixed.
* Scorpion's spear - uppercut - spear - uppercut... fixed.
* Pictures of the creators added after the credits.
* Revolution X and DCS ads added.
* Comic and CD offer shows picture of CD.
Now i skiped on version beause by this point you already understand..but this was the last version of the game to be released to the public..Now this version which does count as a ARCADE PERFECT VERSION..which was released to the public is what we got and then some..now what your talking about to be a perfect mk2 Arcade game could be one of any of the three examples on this post i have here. You got different points of view on say "WE WILL RELEASE A ARCADE PERFECT VERSION" because of that very reasion that they did not say what "version" you didn't get swindled you just didn't look into what they were talking about. So those of you with law suits on midway BACK OUT NOW BECAUSE your going to lose because the proof is there and you just didn't look into it. BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU GOT.

p.s. As for you MAME FOKE out there. MAME is stealing there is no if and's or buts about it. If you had get paid money to work on something and someone steals your ideas its stealing and its still illegal. So i don't even kinda want to hear a word about emulating games because that is still stealing one way or another and those versions shouldn't even be disscussed on this board being this is a MORTAL KOMBAT board which is a MIDWAY made game and property owner. and it honestly makes me sick to see that so many of you can justify stealing a game that it took some guys many hours to work hard and make and continue making for you the public and to go behind there back and steal it is just outrages. You have no real say in anything mortal kombat stands for if you stole this or any of the mortal kombat games even if you paid midway 2000 dollars in other stuff because thats still not justify your actions you still stole it.

i own an actual dedicated midway mortal kombat cabinet with all 3 mk pc boards intstalled. i'm legally allowed to own the rom sets for each and play them on mame whenever i want. but why would i want to? only if i had a laptop and traveled alot

Methuselah6463, maybe I misunderstood your post, but were you saying that we don't know which version of the arcade game was included on MAT2?
Well the version on MAT2 is based on the arcade version 3.1. It's fairly easy to figure out which version it is, based on which finishers are included and things like that. Actually I think 3.1 is the only version where jump kicks produce blood. Anyway, MAT2 is based on revision 3.1, so everyone here does has an accurate frame of reference for the glitches they've been pointing out.

yes you ARE. back up purpouses. i own the exact rom chips that match each rom set. all my boards work, and play fine. i'm sorry but you are allowed to own the roms if you own the original rom set. meaning actual chips on a board. i've read into this much, sorry, your mistaken. show me where it says i can't if i own the actual boards.

at fight night we learn that the MK team had nothing to do with MAT2, the game was made outside of Chicago

dude, i can back up my pcb via the right connections, and it just so happens i have those connections since i'm into this stuff, and there would be no way of knowing wether i got them somewhere else or not cause they came right from the board itself. and i have the equipment, so they can't say it didn't. i'm an arcade hobbiest. don't tell me i can't back up my games. cause then that means you shouldn't be able to buy cd-r's and copy cd's you have so you don't scratch up the good ones. catch my drift?

Spoilers: (Highlight to reveal)
You are allowed to back up your CDs on other CDs, your VHS tapes on other VHS tapes, your DVDs on other DVDs, but you are not allowed to back up your cassette tapes on CDs, your CDs on cassette tapes, and your VHS movies on DVDs. If you have blank rom chips in which you can copy your MK roms onto, then you can legally back up your arcade games.

dude, quit trying to come off like you know it all. if it was legal for me to give out this rom site, you would see the mame disclaimer, " if you do not own the actual game you are about to download, you must exit tis site. it is only legal to possess these roms if you own the actual game your downloading" that means you are allowed if you own the actual game. i'm just reading facts, wether you like it or not, its legal if you own the actual game. sorry, but i'm sure of this. i can round up piles of proof for ya if so desired.

What a sad world we live in. There is a difference between having an open mind, and wishing something were true. Is there anyone else who feels like explaining the true legal boundaries of copyrights because I don't, but I guess I'll have to a little. I cannot believe you were born in 1981 and are that naive, I just can't, please tell me your "just playin" or something, because if not, you really need to do research outside of romsites. There are very strict rules that companies adhere to when it comes to this stuff, some older games are extinct, and fall under an act that makes it legal to download the games even if you don't own them, this list is small, but growing. There might be a law that some companies follow saying if you own the arcade board, if purchased directly through the company, than it is OK to back up your games onto a computer. However, Midway has a "contract" of sorts that doesn't allow for any of this. You would have to do research to know that, and roms sites are not going to post this type of specific information. Matt
