Damn

Still no MK4 or MK Gold

Those games are perfect for a collection like these.

We never get a good version of MK4 and it is a good game.

At least a Arcade Version without Goro please.

UMK3 was good on XBLA If they can fix the problems like keeping unlocked characters and the same background glitch it will be great, and improve the online play.

I'd be quite happy to pay the 800msp if it's a better version than the original XBLA release + you get MK1 and 2.

Where did you get that info from?

Although i wouldn't doubt this at all, It not like redrawing 2D sprites. If the video they shot originally was HQ it wouldn't have been a problem.

But having to re-shoot, you have to try and make everything exactly the same else hitboxes etc need to change and might end up with a completely different game.

This is great news. However, whenever I hear news like this I can't help but to think that MK4 was an embarrassment to the MK team. Sure the animation, costumes, and some characters were laughable but it's still an MK game all the same. Give it a proper memorial.

Since these are direct ports of the original games, I wish they added MKM:SZ to this collection more than anything else.

Man! Im pretty pumped about this.

Although I play MK1 from the Deception KE and own Midways Arcade Treasures 2 for the Xbox respectively, I missed out on UMK3 on Xbox Live. I only own it for the SNES.

I am very happy to say that I will be purchasing this the instant it is available. I only wish it was for "early" summer and not "late" summer. Nevertheless, I am finally going to have THE version of UMK3 that I have always wanted. THANKS NRS!!!!!

Side Note/Question:

What is the difference between the Pit 3 from MK3 and the Pit with the big ass portal in the background from UMK3? It has always been a mystery to me. Sounds like a job for youtube. Youtube away!!!

Thanks.

I've worked in the gaming world a few years now, and was privileged enough to see an early design document for the game a good long while back (don't work there anymore, though). They were going to do a ton with this thing, it was going to have quasi-3D effects via the unreal engine, the whole cast was re-shot. There was going to be a krypt, koins would be won after fights, and it would have had a King Of The Hill mode just like 2011 did. There were something like 50 trophies/achievements to be had, a lot of them revolving around fatalities.

But it ran into a fuckton of problems in the QA process. They tried and tried, and it got delayed a few times before they decided to scrap everything and just make it a straight downloadable title. And from what I've been told of it from those who actually saw it in action, the whole thing looked bad anyway.

This is likely a better alternative.

As someone who is familiar with creating HQ 2d art and animation, I just want to know what exactly the problems were with the HD version?

I mean we have a Street Fighter HD Remix with HD sprites, not to mention all the other HD 2d games coming out now. The Tech is there for the medium of 2D games to be pushed into some truely great places. I just want to know what the problem was exactly.

I mean look at the "Press Start" screen in MK9. Scorp and Subs are 2D right there and for the rest of the main menu. Theyre TECHNICALLY HD sprites.

I doubt the problem was creating the 2D sprites, it's just a matter of filming then cutting it all together. They have 10yrs experience with it + all the mocap work for the 3D games. Whether it looks good in HD is another story.

If they were trying to recreate the original games in HD, I still think the problem would have been making all the sprites the same as the old ones to keep the game as it was.

It's easy to redraw a low-res sprite to a HD version, everything stays the same just enlarged with more detail. Getting an actor to do moves exactly as they were done 20yrs ago is something else.

I still think they should have went down the full 3D path like the iPhone version of UMK3. All the gameplay can stay the same, all that changes is the visuals. And people love the new MK2011 graphics so I don't see why that couldn't be done.

I really wish I could tell you, but I'm not privy to what exactly went wrong. I know the QA guys were finding a ridiculous amount of problems, but that's about it.

I love how back in the early 90's, they were able to make a game with digitized actors. Fast forward to 2011 and suddenly it's impossible? Very funny. I don't think these young programmers know what they're doing.... too set in their ways. Or, perhaps, it's some sort of conspiracy! Yeah, you know, like how we walked on the moon in the '60s and haven't been back since? Yep, must be it. tongue

I'm not interested in an "Arcade perfect" version. for MK2 I already have that... and "arcade perfect" means it retains the psychic, cheater AI from the arcade versions. The original MK games weren't designed to be fair when playing against the computer. They were designed as quarter-eaters. I don't know if I'll be getting this or not

No PC version. Despite all three + UMK3 and Trilogy games were released on PC. Would have been nice to see a retouched MK1.

The other day one of my friends, who is a graphic designer was telling me about this software that can increase image size without pixelating the image, like it actually multiplies the pixels, so you could make a small thumbnail type image into a wallpaper size or something like this.

I'm not sure if they have tried something like this, I'm no expert on the subject so who knows.
