like many before me, i prefer the snes version. no need for me to explain. before i had a next-gen mk my favorite version of the mk games was on the snes, even though it 2-2 (mk1 and umk3 on genesis, even someon i let borrow umk3 still got it lol
, and mk2 and mk3 on snes) i wish i got that umk3 on saturn for christmas....the only reason for those genesis versions was cause of the blood being on mk1 (obviously) and my mom misunderstood what version of umk3 i wanted (snes)

I diddn't like how the SNES version changed the life bars taking the names outside of them. Kinda annoyed me.
I noticed the Genisis version runs faster and looks cleaner.

why do you care about the lifebars? i understand it was different but overall the snes version is better mainly cause it was closer to the arcade version than the genesis version. comparing mk's on snes and genesis is a waste of time if you ask me because the snes got the better versions for the most part.

I thought the SNES version was way better then the sega version. The SNES version had better music, sound, graphics and control then the sega version, but don't get me wrong the sega version was good to play, but when the snes version came out I was all for the SNES version. I remember I had two TVS hookedup in my game room one tv on my desk and the other tv on top of it and I had the sega version playing on the bottom tv and the SNES version playing on the top TV and looking at both the SNES version looked so much better. The only thing really cool about the sega version was the game genie codes to play as the hidden characters(smoke, jade and noob saibot) and the bosses that's it. That's the only thing I thought was the coolest that the sega version could do that the SNES version couldn't. And real quick the SNES version of MKI was better then the Sega version just my opinion.

very true about mk2. i wish the snes version had that code for the secret and boss characters. but i loved the intro thing you could do on the snes when shao kahn and kintaro destroy the logo, that was tight. and as for mk1 for the most part you're right. the only thing that made the genesis version of mk1 better was the blood.

I'm with SNES. SZ the 7th, you saying Genesis had better music is sadder than the time I ate expired Parmesean Cheese. SNES replicates the arcade music better than any other I've heard. It is missing some of the Arcade elements (I.E. The Armory in the Arcade had Someone Screaming in the song, good times, gooooood times).
SNES has the better Graphics, no competition. I don't care if the names are outside the lifebars in the SNES version, because that doesn't bother me at all.
The only thing the Genesis had was the Fergality or something like that.

Once and for all, the SNES music is far and beyond superior to Genesis's. There are more channels, better quality instruments, and just simply not bad. I have tons of experience with both versions and the Arcade version, the SNES version's music is just simply better produced. They put all they had into both systems for the music, comparing with other games from the same system, and if you look at system specs for Genesis, it cannot produce better quality music than SNES. A good exmple is musics from some old WWF wrestling games, even SEGA CD, which could have done CD audio tracks, didn't have better quality music than SNES. A friend of mine bought Rage in the Cage many many years ago, and I thought, "For sure they will good copies of the wrestler's themes." I was wrong. They were exactly the same as SNES, however, channels were STILL missing. Truly amazing.
Graphics: SNES landslide victory here. There is no debating it.
Gameplay: Genesis is faster, the processor is faster than SNES's, by a whopping 3 mHz or so. But they also ripped apart the frame rate. Sega's port had about half the frames of animation overall than SNES did. SNES was a bit sluggish at times, which is a problem a lot of games faced.
Sound Effects: Again with SEGA's sound processor, there is no denying the quality of the actual sounds. SNES's were just better, however, SNES is missing some sounds that SEGA does not, BUUUUUTTTTTT....Sega is missing an ENORMOUS amount of sounds on the whole from the game, and the sounds they did keep were the lamest possible sounds they could for the most part. DreemerNJ and myself call SEGA's sound chip "The Garbalizer" because that is what is does. Play a John Madden game from the early 90's and listen to him say anything, you won't understand it. Don't even try. But here's a phrase to look for "He'll feel that one tomorrow." Hideous.
Anyway, all this talk of SNES and Genesis port comparisons makes me want to talk about UMK3 for those systems. UMK3 for Genesis is possibly the most frightening and confusingly bad port of an MK that has ever happened. The music is truly grotesque. Some stages have so few instruments they should have just given up. Listen to the Pit 3 stage on Gen, then SNES, and then the arcade. There are huge differences in all of them, but my God, the Sega version is just screaming with sadness. It sounds like it should be coming out of a PC speaker practically. OK OK I'm done. =)
In fact, and I'm sad enough to do this, I'll make up a webpage of comparisons for SNES and Genesis, aligned with the Arcade.

OK here, you can see the visual frenzy that is Genesis MK2 and I included a few musics, the most noticeable badness is the Genesis select screen, there's just too many colors to do, and not enough available.

I have played the SNES Version mostly when i was young, because i didnt had a genesis =)
But Later i played the genesis version on an Emulator (Gens) and i must say that the movement is a little bit quicker in that version BUT!!!!
Nothing compare against the Arcade Version!!
I am very sure that both versions SNES/GENESIS are to quick!
I played the Arcade Version on my MK II Machine and on MAME (via Kaillera for a very long time, and then i played on zbattle.net and on SNES9X via direct connect, and the game is 10-20% quicker!
Anybody agree with that or am i mad? =)
Sorry for my english i am from The Reich Germany
