From March 2004 Official Xbox Magazine(mag is getting better by the way!)

"So what exactly defines a sequel? It used to be any game with a "2" or "II" after it.It also used to mean that it was literally more of the same.More gore, more charcters, more levels, and more money out of your wallet. All we ever expected or even wanted out of a"2" was more of that great experience.Tomb Raider 2,Doom II,Tekken 2,and Mortal Kombat II are perfect examples of sequels."

That's good MKII is getting respect alot of people call the MK series crap.

Mortal Kombat II will always stand above all fighting games in every generation.
It was a perfect creation that couldn't get better or worst. Same for Street Fighter II.
Just like our old time Daytona USA. Once it was release, no other sequel was as good as the original, nor the badly (yet good graphics)improved Daytona for Dreamcast.
This summer (after getting a new car), I will see to it that my room gets introduced to a Mortal Kombat II arcade.
Thats how good the game is. I think and dream about it everyday, just wishing I can go back to my young days when it was hot and new in arcades.

Well, it's nice to know an X-Box mag can identify good classic sequels. Though Mr. Ed Boon himself said in the PSM coverage that MK2 was now slow-paced for him and his fav. was MK:DA.

I dunno if 4 days is a big bump for these forums but I just wanna add... Looking back, Doom 2 wasn't a great sequel... Sure it was fun as hell, but it added what, 2 new monsters or 2 new guns? Heh, still, Doom is a great good awesome game and I can never say anything bad about it, I still play it for a little bit at least 3 times a week.

Those were the good days when MK2 came out I remember when I first played it.It was late at night I played a few matches then I went to sleep. The next day I played MK2 all day long(which probably lead to my Sega CD/Cartdrige burning out a few years later).

I agree.. even after all these years I still enjoy playing mk2 the best. Yah the graphics are nothing when compared to the games availible at the moment, yah the gameplay is rather symplistic, but mk2 will always have the fun factor for me. The game just doesn't seem to get old.

I think MKII would have been better with a run button, that's probably the only thing I'd change.

Kung Broken!!!!!!!!
What you say?? MK2 RUNBUTTON!! ARGHH!!!
Never!!!!! LoL =)

No, for real, MK2 has nothing what is missing, a Run Button dont fit that fighting engine, and please no f***** autocombo shit that even my mother can perform. (I mean the standart Combos of course not the umk3 vid ones)

And if MK2 had a runbutton with that engine, it would be totaly broken for monster combos.

And for lp trapping shit like its in UMK3.

I think umk3 would be better with a quick forward step/dash like in most other modern figting games.
But that runbutton has 1 Bug in my opinion.
It recarge to quick, i mean why is there a energy bar for it. It recarge so quick that it nearly make ne sense.
A other solution would be that you have a really long runbutton Bar, but it dont recarge, so that you must use your run,s wise.

Actually, Doom 2 added many new textures, 1 new weapon (Super Shotgun), and rather than using episodes, it was a straight 32 levels. It also continued the story of BJ. It used the same engine, obviously, which is why it didn't look any more spectacular than the original Doom. But all in all, the Doom 2 engine is an improvement and is used for any Doom development to this day. I suggest checking out www.doomworld.com.
