Mortal Kombat's most overrated character:

Sometimes it seems like being "mysterious" is all you need to please people. Like there are those who seriously would enjoy a game with a roster of 20 ninjas. The worst part is he isn't even REALLY "mysterious" or "cryptic". He just isn't established or built up at all. It's not like they wrote this really interesting back story and are slowly adding things in and keeping you hooked, they're just vague about his motivations because they're too lazy to write a decent story for him. |
MK2, he was a black Scorpion;
MK3, he was a black Kano;
Genesis/SNES UMK3-MKT, he made his first decent appearence with his own moves and a storyline that actually lead up to MK4;
MK4, he was only included in the home version, but was just a black Sub-Zero (he had his costume, his limb-breaker, and his fatalities);
MKG, he was fixed up better, given back his old spirit-ball, but still didn't have a very good story/ending or his own fatalities;
MK:TE, he was a black Scorpion once again, but this time he had a useful story.

Scorpion, for sure. Most newbs are Scorpion fans (and still spell his name "scorpian" sometimes), and that's why good old Scorp lost my respect, hee. Cause I really loved playing as him in MK1.
KillerMiller, wir sollten mal eine Partie UMK3 spielen.

I agree. Mortal Kombat has always been full of very lazy story telling and character continuity. Bad, bad, bad. I still can't believe that they killed off Sub-Zero's older brother from Mythologies. What were they thinking? Kill a character off who starred in his own game. Good stuff. The storyline has been twisted around so much, they could have easily rewritten and side-stepped that "official" MK1 ending.
"Hey, Wolverine just died but his younger brother took up the mantel of Wolverine. He looks the same and everything." Ugh... please, for Gods sake (and this goes for many of these "dynasty" franchise games), hire a good writter and retell the entire damn story up to present. It sure beats tieing up loose ends in bullsh*t ways because off poor storytelling, or just not taking the time to tie them up at all. I think that it's reasonable for the fans to request this. I mean, how much money have they made off of us in the last 15 years again?

OH MY GOD!
finally, someone shares THE EXACT thought as i do, the tierlist is a pile of shit, people would only believe them if they were gullable enough to believe that snow is actually dog shit painted white.
anyway, whose the most oevr-rated character... whose the one who is over loved and over shadows about seventy (almost all of them) other characters all because he is a "hell spawned ninja"... who is one of the worst (in my opinion) characters to ever be created... why of course... scorpion.
he's overloved... meanwhile great characters like sonya, jax, sareena and motaro become just because of they're "tier" list, becomse the worst, if people sit down, and understand, that you should'nt like a character because of what ther character is, you should like the character because you want to like him, not because of everyone else liking them.
i always hated scorpion, he sucks, and the fact that because of this constant "if scorpion does'nt return im going to kill myself!", "if you dont like scorp you can suck my dick!", "sc0rp pwnz j00 h4rd!!11!11!!1" or... this is my favorite "go suck on my fat sweaty hairy dick you fuckface prick! scorpion would own anyone anyday anytime!", which does'nt make scorpion look good, nowq granted i like some characters that are a bit over-rated like noob and sonya, but i like them for what they are, noob i like because he is shadowy and mysterious, we dont really know alot about his past and of his dark, evil powers, and sonya because in the right hands in any game she owns.
but anyway, im saying scorpion is the most over-rated... then in second sub-zero.

Tell that to life, because unless you people are amazing, if not thee best MKII players in the world, you're going to lose to Mileena lol. I shouldn't even have to say that, but for some reason people just don't get it. I don't know how times I have to explain what a tier list is. It's ALL about the programming code of the game. You can have a tier list of characters, and then in a tourny, have a tier list of players. There is an enormous difference, but even still, a great player is going to have to give everything they've got to beat even mediocre players who use top tier characters if they play as anyone other than top tier. It's called reality my friends. By saying this, you both clearly do not know enough about fighting games in general to make these kinds of statements to begin with. This isn't about *me* being right, this is about facts, where anyone has the chance to be right, in this case, I happen to be on the winning side. You can't argue opinions because opinions aren't based on facts, that's why opinions can be wrong, and hence the word opinion not meaning the same thing as fact. You can say the facts aren't facts, but no matter what, you're not going to change the cosmological constant of the universe, therefore, you can't argue and say someone else is wrong by restating your opinion, once you say someone is wrong, you need to know what it is you're talking about, and if you don't, sit down and shut up because your opinion doesn't matter. It gets annoying to come here and see how often people post about things just to post, it's obvious because of the lack of thought put into the posts. Unfortunately this is the best place to come and talk about old school MK, and I won't deprive myself of that.

Holy crap... a lot of bad mouthing going on about Scorpion. I've been playing MK a long time so I'm not a noob. I've always thought Scorpion was a decent character if used correctly. I'm not naive enough to think he is the best because I know better from experience. I have an easier time beating people using say Ermac then If I use Scorpion...but sometimes I'll pick Scorp anyway just because I've always liked him. Funny thing is...he is the most dominate character in MKDA and that's probably the game I like him least in.
Anyway, I don't think its right to trash Scorpion...his story has been pretty weak for a while but he still has some neat moves and a cool look that makes him a very unique character.
As for underated characters like Stryker and Nightwolf...well I didn't like any of their moves. Nightwolf I know can be devistating in the right hands... one of my friends is a nightwolf buff and he can pull off some pretty crazy stuff. Either way I don't care... I hate his moves I hate his look I hate his story...nothing about him is appealing what-so-ever! Same goes for Stryker.
