There isn't much to comment on ... you layed out Scorpions story pretty good. Personally, I think storyline a) is that "true" storyline for Scorpion athough I doubt anyone really knows...not even the creators lol.

In the Sub-Zero thread I mentioned that I thought Sektor was Sub-Zero's nemesis because Sektor represents the path Sub-Zeor did not take.

As for Scorpion, I believe his nemesis is the original Sub-Zero, more accurately, Noob Saibot. Compare the two:
While he was still Sub-Zero, they were obviously each other's nemesis. Sub-Zero was ice, Scorpion was fire. Scorpion was once a believer in mercy, Sub-Zero was not.

Now compare Scorpion with Noob Saibot:
Scorpion was turned into a spectre after his death and brought into the Brotherhood of the Shadow, but he retained his free will. He would still defy Quan Chi by not killing the younger Sub-Zero. Scorpion later turned against Quan Chi.
Sub-Zero, on the other hand, is brought to the Netherealm and turned into a wraith and becomes the Brotherhood's most loyal member. He becomes Quan Chi and Shinnok's dutiful slave.
Everything Scorpion does is for the memory of his family. Noob Saibot has renounced his family as seen in his Deception ending.
Scorpion is free from Quan Chi now and he becomes the Champion of the Elder Gods. Noob Saibot is free from Quan Chi and is trying to become the ruler of the Netherealm.

Something to think about...

The way you analyzed scorpion was pefect, you hit his motivation right on the head. But there is just one thing, Scorpions family.

Scorpion never loses their memory, his MK1 ending states, "He can never again KNOW his family and must forever exist with his secrect curse." I Imagine that as meaning that he'll never be with them or touch them again...ever. From then (MK2) on to forever, he will be tormented for not being there when his family needed him (his ego got in the way).

He kills Sub-zero in MK1 but it has brought him little satisfaction, the fact that his soul is still restless is a sign that his mission is not over. When he finds that Quan Chi is to blame, he knows then what his true mission is, and always has been ( He fixation on sub-zero may have been just his ego getting in the way again). And when Quan is destroyed by Raiden, he has no purpose what so ever...untill he finds the Elder Gods.
Pretty cool man. Do some more. Do the next one on sub-zero.grin

No Scorpion is not Sub-Zeros nemesis, neither is Sektor, they are counterparts of him, but certainly no nemesises (since they don't hate him with passion. Scorpion hated the older one,and Sektor is a calculating ma-chine)

you're right, Sektor is a calculating machine but I think he is evolving into something more. Becoming Lin Kuei Grandmaster was never a part of his programing and creating his own organization was never in there either. whether it be because of a virus or something else, he's changing. I think he's angry and has revenge on his mind, a "calculating machine" wouldn'd do that.

Hey, that was awesome. Do you think you could do one on Noob-Saibot, please? I don't really know that much about him.

Thanks

This thread is should be stickied imho. It goes into GREAT detail about the story of MK and is unopinionated.

It would be interesting is Scorpion somehow ends up being the anti-hero/champ in the mks to come

I like the A storyline much, MUCH better. But, guess what? I think B is the official one. (sucks, huh?)

However, his MK1 ending is retconned, just like 2 and 3, due to the very fact that Scorpion remembered his family, which he wasn't suppossed to be able to do--his price to return and avenge their deaths. Again, his MK4 ending just f*$%ed everything up.

Well said.

Storyline A for Scorpion really gets more storyline mileage out of him than Storyline B. I hope John Vogel agrees with me on this, and makes it official (I believe it was John Tobias that made Storyline B his official storyline).

Now one must wonder, will Scorpion and Noob Saibot cross paths again?

My guess: They will, eventually.

Scorpion is the new Champion of the Elder Gods, and Noob Saibot is seeking to take over the Netherealm. Will Noob Saibot be satisfied with just ruling the Netherealm? Some would say yes, as he actually had to earn his place in that realm, and actually desired to be there. However, it's a known fact that it only takes a small taste of power to really start craving it. And not only does that fact hold true in the MK storyline (along with the storylines of other games), but it also holds true in real life (Hitler would be a prime example of this). Therefore, I doubt Noob Saibot will be satisfied with just ruling the Netherealm. Noob will probably seek to take over other realms, as well. My best guess is, his primary target would be Outworld, as Outworld seems to really be the core realm of all the realms in the MK universe. And I wouldn't be surprised if Noob tried to take the Kamidogu and/or Quan Chi/Shinnok's amulet for himself, either. And if the Elder Gods think Noob is enough of a threat to all the realms, I'm certain they'll send Scorpion to stop him.

And if that's the scenario, would Scorpion be aware that Noob Saibot is indeed his old nemesis who killed him so long ago, and who he killed in vengeance two years afterward? If so, I doubt Scorpion would care at this point.

Why, you ask?

For one, I think his days of personal vendettas are finished. Remember, he is a totally different person in MKD than he was in MKDA and before. His purpose was no longer vengeance for the massacre of his family and his clan. He even witnessed the demise of Quan Chi and Shang Tsung from the Nexus. And I don't think there were any signs at all of Scorpion being pissed that it wasn't him that dealt the killing blow to Quan Chi.

And since he is a totally different person in MKD than he was in MKDA, and MKD happens RIGHT after MKDA, that begs the question: How did Scorpion change so abruptly?

I can only come up with one possible explanation for that one, and this is just some crazy idea I thought of in my head, and this is the first time ANYONE on MKO gets to read it from me.

Between the time he was thrown into the Soulnado and the time he became the Champion of the Elder Gods, Scorpion may have finally reunited with his clan, his wife, and their child, either in the Soulnado, or in the heavens. And perhaps it was this reunion that convinced Scorpion to give up on his quest for revenge. Or perhaps, his reunion with his family and his clan meant more to him than avenging them. And during the reunion is when the Elder Gods came before him, face-to-face, and warned him that the realms were in grave danger, as were the heavens. And perhaps this is where Scorpion's new purpose comes into play. He realizes that he has reunited with his family and his clan, and he knows the realms are in grave danger, and knows that if he does not stop this danger, he could lose his family and his clan again. See, in my theory for Scorpion's abrupt change between MKDA and MKD, the one thing that hasn't changed is that Scorpion is still driven by his family and his clan. Whereas before, he lost his family and clan and fought to avenge them, and now, he's reunited with them, and now fights because he lost them once and doesn't want to lose them again. (How can he lose his family and clan again if they're still dead? Simple: the return of "The One Being", or if the souls of his family and clan are stolen by an entity similar to Shang Tsung or Shao Kahn.)

"We learned in MK: Mythologies that Hanzo Hasashi's father was a member of the Shirai Ryu. He forbade Hanzo from joining because he didn't want his son to spend his life as an assassin, however Hanzo joined against his father's wishes because he wanted to provide a comfortable life for his wife and child. He was code-named Scorpion and became a master of shuryuken, throwing weapons."

ok..NOWHERE in mkm does it say that.

"His soul was sent to the Netherealm where he then learns that after his death his family and clan was wiped out by the Lin Kuei. He later again encountered Sub-Zero, but was again defeated. "

scorpion was only defeated once. the second fight only happens just for the game as an extra boss fight.

"In MK1 Scorpion is offered by either Quan Chi or Shinnok to return to avenge his death. He is given a new body and becomes a spectre and allowed to return to Earth to kill Sub-Zero. To do so he enters Shang Tsung's tournament where he tracks down Sub-Zero. They fight and this time Scorpion is victorious. He kills Sub-Zero and then returns to the Netherealm, however he is forced to forget his family in return for his revenge."

No one knows who allowed scorpion to return from the dead.
in scorpions mk1 ending (which didnt happen) it said he cannot remember his family..yet in mk4 he obviously does...

"In MK2, Sub-Zero mysteriously returns so Scorpion reemerges to kill him. Now this is where it gets hazy. He either:
a) Discovered that this Sub-Zero wasn't the one that killed him and vows to protect him to atone for murdering his older brother.
b) Failed to kill this new Sub-Zero."

neither. he doesnt become his protector, and never tried to kill him up until mk4.

"In MK3 Shao Kahn invades the Earth and attempts to steal the souls of the Netherealm. He fails, but in the chaos that followed, Scorpion was able to escape. Because of the Outworld portal being open, Scorpion cannot be summoned back to the Netherealm leaving him free to roam Earth again. He either:
a) Was offered to join Shao Kahn against the Earth warriors but refused when he realized the younger Sub-Zero was one of them. He joins Earth's forces and helps in Outworld's defeat. With the Outworld portal closed, Scorpion is summoned back into the Netherealm.
b) Tried to kill Sub-Zero and failed again."

again, neither. scorpion was a "wildcard". he never chose a side and never returned to the netherrealm until he grappled quan chi during the events of mk4.

"In MK4, Quan Chi offers to give Scorpion his life back if he serves Shinnok. Scorpion accepts but also:
a) Was deceived by Quan Chi into believing Sub-Zero was involved with the massacre of his clan and family, causing him to break his vow to protect Sub-Zero.
b) Was after Sub-Zero again."

scorpion wasnt deceived into believing sub was involved...he already thought it.

other KNOWN facts:

-scorpion was only defeated 1 time by the original sub-zero.
-scorpion didnt serve shinnok or quan chi until the events of mk4.

i could go on with errors, but dont feel like it.

it doesnt matter what it mentions in any comics, movies, shows, etc. all that matters in whats in the game.

I think you should do the cyborg ninjas!their slick and awsome!not to mention cheaters and deadly.
Storyline A is a much better storyline, that much is clear. But I wonder where Scorpion's story will go next, after all Sub-Zero's gotten a lot more depth to his story now, I think it's time Scorpion got his turn. All the crew say Scorpion is their favorite character (even Vogel, who I admit, accused of hating Scorpion, said Scorpion is the coolest character in Mortal Kombat) But sometimes it just doesn't seem that way.
