Definitely make a new thread for it, so you are one of the guys who is programming the new Mugen MK game? I've been meaning to contact you.

I really think you are doing an awesome job, however, I'm not a fan of hulking up the combos and removing all the balancing properties. I know you guys are doing it for fun, but you have the chance to recreate MKT and balance it out, and that's something DreemerNJ and I have wanted to do. Make the new thread, we can all talk about it there, because I think this is the greatest thing to happen in a long time. The only thing is, since there's no netplay and mugen is so customizable, it wouldn't have much point. Once there is netplay, you could have something. In any event, the only thing I'm really going to tell you is to recreate all the combos for the characters that already exist, and just make like MKT 2, focus on the MK1 and MK2 sprites, giving them the cool combos. What's going to happen with us testing to eliminate bugs and infinites, is just "make them play like UMK3 and MKT and then work from there." I'm going to email DreemerNJ about this, and Konqrr.

Matt
Mugen MK?
That sounds sweet, I had that idea for myself to make an Mugen only with MK Fighters, Backgrounds, Sound ect. but then I got Win XP and mugen fucked up lol.

So you guys wanna make an MK Mugen right?
Did you have some homepage for that project, and how far are you with that MK Mugen?

One thread is in Fan Submission part of forum...
http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?id=39929&page;=19
Heres "homepage":

OK... we can even make to give characters 20 auto combos instead of 6 or 8
(make 4 hits with damage 10 instead 2 hits with damage 20)
So i dont know , i think imitate MKT will be boring , but i really want to make good balance between characters...
And for Netplay... i heard that it can be possible if both players will have "untouched" version of game ( CRC must be the same for all files...)
I added some barrier to characters ( when numbers of roundhouses or uppercuts will be more than 3 and opponent will be still in the air , 2 toasty'ies hit the screen and player goes to the Dizzy animation and lose control for some time )
I release new version of game today...
I am the only person which programed all characters and moves , some other guys make new backgrounds or give ideas for everything new... So sometimes its hard for me to take care of infinities cause most of the time i make this game and i dont have time for play and discover some things... some of them also happen to me only one time , but OK nevermind , we can handle it smile

"there's no "efficient" way to have online gaming in mugen. Note that I haven't said it is impossible to play online, just that you won't get more than 1fps" So i think we can forget about game online...

hahahha
Some guys are angry cause there is someone better ?
I think more respect is needed for some guys and why are you so serious ?
Thread isn closed so you still can talk about those cheats
For cpu throws... in my MK3 project i set to normal players throwing in min. 5 pixels distance and for cpu 20 pixels , and im sure they do the same in original MK
Its hard to make good AI , nothing can compare with human mind...

Precisely.
Not at all, in Chess, the AI (Deep Blue) beat even Kasparov.

I think there could be programmed an CPU that kills everything without using cheats in UMK3.
But only If they would put that much effort like in a Chess CPU of course.
(Wich would be of course ridiculously because there is no point of making such a CPU in a Videogame).

But back to the Topic:
I think its very cheap to simply give a CPU cheats (and adding more throw distance is nothing other) to make it "challenging".
But I can understand that its much work to make a good non-cheating CPU, and that the programmers simply give them some cheats.

hah Cpu beaten Kasparov ?
No , he just give up
Some other players aftrr match says that his situation wasnt so bad and they dont know why he gave up , besides its only one human and its only one chess game...
in chess final of match between CPU MASTER vs CPU MASTER will be always DRAW GAME (if they didnt program it to make "dumb moves")

Its hard to make smart AI without adding him some cheats , besides some humans find out those cheats and then use it to win

they dont really cheat they just follow their script which was extremely primitive back then so they didnt think about variations or anything it was just like yea punch him cuz hes standing up.

AI for chess is very different. Deep Blue was so powerful when it came to chess because it was essentially analyzing the current situation, comparing it to every similar situation it had in memory, and extrapolating the best course based on past chess games. I'm not saying something like this couldn't be done with a fighter, but it would be tremendously difficult since the information the computer would need to consider would be so great. Characters, tendencies, distance, current stage (since some have different widths), both characters' life bars, both characters' run bars, move disable states, damage protection state, active projectiles.

It's just a ton to do and since it isn't turn based it would have to be a constant reevaluation. There'd probably need to be some prediction algorithms and a matrix to set down a particular style for the computer, either to limit the amount of thinking it needs to do or to prevent it from being the most powerful, unbeatable thing ever.

Actually designing some really intelligent AI would be fun. But damn it would be hard. Just scripting wouldn't be any good, IMO, it would have to be an on-the-fly evaluation of tactics.
I heard that in Virtua Fighter 4 there is am mode where the AI is learning.
That would be cool for an MK game.

VF4 is the only home version of a VF I have played. It has a mode where you teach the computer to fight like you. It watches you fight to see what techniques you use, and then you watch it fight and rate its moves as good or bad as they happen to reinforce when and how often to use certain moves.

Oh man I'm glad the computer doesn't cheat on the newer Mortal Kombat games. On Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 the difficulty is very cheap. I played Mortal Kombat 2 earlier and I was facing Kintaro using Baraka and I was doing the blade move and Kintaro just steps in and throws me. What's up with that?

In MK3 they just disabled some of the special moves when you were fighting boss characters; I thought that was pretty cheap. It wasn't even like you would do the move and the boss would just no-sell it, the move just wouldn't come out. Off the top of my head, I think Sindel's scream was disabled when fighting Shao Khan.

Also, if I remember correctly, Raiden's Shock Grab move couldn't be used against ANY cpu opponent in MK Trilogy... what was up with that?
