I guess this belongs in this forum since it's MK: DA that we'll be comparing this the most against. Now obviously everyone here are MK nuts or you wouldn't be here, but excluding MK: DA (being the most recent MK game), in your opinion, what is the best fighting game available at the moment or that will be released in the near future? (And don't say MK6!)
Here's some to consider:
Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus
Soul Calibur II
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos
Tekken 4
Capcom vs SNK 2 EO
Dead or Alive 3
Dead or Alive Online
Bloody Roar: Primal Fury
Bloody Roar Extreme
There's just some I could think of off the top of my head...if I've missed any you think should be there, by all means post them.
And please give an opinion as to why you think a certain game is better, don't just name the game!
Make sure they are recent games, being released in the last couple of years or so (or about to be released soon).

I think this should be in the general discussion forum.

Let's not forget some of the oldies like:
Way of the Warrior(3DO)
Ultra Vortek(Jaguar)
Kasumi Ninja(Jaguar)
Lobo(Super Nintendo/genesis), I bet not alot of you remember that one
Primal Rage(psx)
War Gods(psx)
Clayfighter 63 1/3(nintendo 64)
I know these games pale in comparison to today's standards, but I still think they're worth playing.

And for those of you who obviously can't read and are saying this should be in the general forum, I'll repeat what I said in my original post:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
Have you played Soul Calibur 2?
I don't think you have because Soul Calibur 2 completely Annihilates Tekken 4.
IN EVERY ASPECT!!!!
Tekken 4 is not half as deep as Soul Calibur 2.
And for the record I know they are both made by Namco.

Greetings,
I would say VF4. The old Killer Instinct series wasn't too bad either.
I like both Tekken and Soul Calibur. Tekken 3, in its glory days, outclassed the MK3-string (don't crucify me for this, I have my reasons), but I felt that both of them were irritating in a sense that the intermediate player could/can still be beaten by a stupid button basher or a one-trick-johnny. This won't happen in MK.
I was never a huge fan of Street Fighter but I respect the series.

VainQuere, I see you like KI. Have you tried the Twisted Fate demo yet? We've made a LOT of progress since the demo (and will release another in time). TF plays like a cross between MK and KI, VERY cool stuff.

The best fighting game series is Street Fighter, no doupt about it. It spawned several rip offs, many games using the same type of engine, and it has some of the best fighting game characters in the history of everything ever.
My favourite fighting game right now(excluding MKDA) is Marvel vs Capcom 2. It's just so much fun to watch Ryu, Cyclops and Strider Hiryu send hundreds of robotic tigers and energy blasts agaisn't the Hulk, Jill Valentine and Cable who summon zombies, bring comets from outer space and blast giant laser beams from a huge-ass gun.

I can read but so far there hasn't been a single mention of mkda so i still say that it is in the wrong forum.

You're actually working on Twisted Fate?
I run Blood-Sports.net...how would you feel if I wrote a preview?
White_Pointer
Yes, I am the co-designer and progammer of Twisted Fate. I'd love for you to write something. But I'd suggest trying the demo first. Like I said, I tweaked a LOT of things in the programming AFTER the demo was released. So timing, animation speed, and reaction times are better now than on the demo. However, it is still a good representation of our work. I really like the graphics and control. If you write something, just let me see a URL so I can check it out ;)

I can't write a preview if I don't play the work-in-progress game first :P

I've played Soul Calibur 2 before and it's just not my kind of game. Given, it is way deeper than Tekken, but Tekken has always had better graphics and more interesting characters.

Kazmer13 Wrote: Yes, then I would call it a Review rather than a Preview. If the review is positive I will post it on the TF site. But of course, your honest opinion is what is most important. |
No, you're getting confused between a Review and a Preview dude.
A review is when the FINAL version of the game is played and the game in analysed, which usually results in the game being given a final score to indicate how good it is.
A preview is when a WORK-IN-PROGRESS version of the game (whether that is a demo or whatever) is played. Rather than the game being analysed, a preview points out the features that are present so far, the features that are yet to be added and any other points of interest the developer has made available. It may talk about how the control system is coming along and how the graphics are looking and that kind of thing.
There's a distinct difference between reviews and previews. Both require the game to be played before writing them, but once requires the full, finished, complete version while the other requires an unfinished version.
For a visual difference between the two:
Review (Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance)
Preview (One Must Fall: Battlegrounds)
Look at the different styles used, and how each one addresses different points. You'll see what I mean more clearly after you read those.

Well, I'm going to have to say Street Fighter. I love the Street Fighter series because it's original and the characters are awesome. Vega is probably my favorite character in a fighting game of all time
