The QA Manager for the MK ports on MAT2, and the MK1 port should be fired
All three were advertised as PERFECT arcade ports. All three of them have sound problems, the most severe obviously is MK3 where the music still plays after you do a fatality.
I mean, c'mon...there's no way in hell they didnt notice these issues before the game went gold. Yet, they do nothing, and send them out as is. Blatent false advertising.
MKII is definitely the best out of the 3, but even that one has intermittent sound issues, and severe flickering on shadows. When I beat MKII with Scorpion earlier the damn music stops half way through the credits. I mean, cmon...that's just laziness.
And for all the years that diehard MK fans have been screaming for perfect arcade ports of the originals, and to get them where they're CLAIMED to be perfect ports, and theyre obviously not...well to me thats a slap in the face.
Everyone should be sending Midway emails about this. They need to make a bug free new version and send it to people who bought the one thats out now.

Making a less buggy version sounds possible, they did it with MKT for PSX and MKG for DC. However, if its like the past, they won't announce when they start shipping it and if you really want it you'll have to buy the games again.
To sum it all up: Midway sucks nuts. Yes, we do love them for Mortal Kombat, but they need to take more time to look at the games. I would've gladly waited an extra month or two for MAT2 (as MAME would hold me over) so that they could find EVERY SINGLE bug and iron it out. There is no way they can say that "Our emulation software wasn't working right" or "we know about the problems but tried everything we could to fix them". I mean come on, flickering shadows? Music playing during a fatality? Low Palace Gates music? Those are very MINOR problems that even I could fix in a hurry if I knew how to. But hell, I'ma keep MAT2. It's the closest thing you can get to the arcade. MAME IS the arcade, so yeah....
Oh yeah, and by the way, has anyone noticed that in all the MKD Kollector's Edition ads, they put "arcade perfect" in quotation marks? That's like saying the phrase "arcade perfect" while making the hand gesture for quotes. Catch my drift here?

It is most unfortunate, that's all I can keep saying, I can also keep saying I won't buy it. I almost want to buy it just to see if there's huge problems in the actual gameplay that a lot of people might not pick up on, but I won't unless someone I know gets it and brings it over.

If they do rerelease an actual fixed version of Midway Arcade Treasures 2, and MK1 from MKD Kollector's Edition, you will not have to buy them at all. All you would have to do is take your defective item to the place you bought it. Always keep your receipts just in case something like this happens. Otherwise you may have to send it through the mail to get the fixed version, but they will never, ever make you buy it again. Remember MK Gold? The buggy version was fixed, and all you had to do was take your game, and exchange it for the fixed version. Midway remburses the game stores when they do an even swap anyway, and the discs never get recalimed, they just wind up floating around out there. I am going to try to contact Midway once more on the problems, and see what happens. I'll post their reply here on the forum, if I get one.

I don't think that I've been as pissed ever before as I am right now after playing fucking MAT2. What kind of bullshit is Midway pulling here? I just can't believe the sheer laziness of these fuckin people. It's not a slap in the face as much as it's a kick in the nuts. This has got to be the most horseshit version of MK3 that I've ever played. Poor ass sound, music playing when it's not supposed to be, music stopping when it's not supposed to, kabal's name not being announced, fatality time is about 5 nanoseconds, fuckin missed graphics, flickering shadows, entering the UKK every fucking time you play the game, did I miss anything else?
Dammit I am royally pissed. I grew up playing the shit in the arcades and i was so looking forward to getting the nostalgic feel of a genuine arcade port. Oh, no. That's much to fuckin tough to do apparently. The only saving grace is MK2 which has got very few bugs and is the best console MK2 that I've played. Thank god that MK2 is my favorite.
Midway is really screwing themselves with this one. They have successfully pissed off legions of fans by selling a shadow of the classics. They better seriously consider re-releasing this game THE CORRECT WAY if they want to keep the fans that they have.

I wish people would just not buy it. Why buy something that isn't going to be as good as it should be?
If Midway can give a scientific explanation as to why it's impossible to fully emulate their higher end games, then why bother trying to do it in the first place and in turn, just port the arcade versions? It is definitely possible to emulate, and to port on a level that is undetectably different from the arcade.

Does anyone have a modded XBOX with MAME? If so I'd be curious to see how MKII and 3 run on that. If some hackers could to a better job than the midway dev team, that would be even more pitiful.

I'd put money on it that says they would.
Two reasons: First, they don't try to scam cashflow off of peeps like Midway.
Second, hackers created MAME right? I happen to think that MAME is damn good. The hackers are more skilled and actually give a shit unlike commercial programmers.

Actual gameplay is fine still arcade perfect. Just the sound and the shadows in MK2.(when you are palying ayou looking at the actual characters to play or do you play off the shadows?Mortal kombat not shadow kombat)

All very true! The thing is, running MKII/3 on PC MAME still doesn't really prove anything. Today's PC's have long since eclipsed the power and RAM capacity of current-gen consoles, which still gives the MAT2 developers an excuse. But if someone got the games running perfectly on a CONSOLE, using nothing more than a ROMs and a freeware emulator, then that would really make a powerful statement. If someone has a modded XBOX, please try this out and let us know!BustaUppa Wrote:

Doesn't matter if it's called Shadow Kombat or not. It's not TRUE to the original. And fans will scrutinize that shit all the time. I didn't notice the shadow thing for a while but once I did, it ruined the experience for me.
Besides, when there's no shadow, it shows no depth on the playing field. Just looks like characters copy and pasted to a background, doesn't look as realistic if you get what I'm saying.

I only saw MK1 emulated on a modded X Box at a tourny, and from what I could tell, it was perfect.

I've got MAME on my xbox. Without sound they run flawlessly. With sound there is a little bit of slowdown on all the games after mk1 rev.5 which causes some stuttering occasionally. But this i believe can/has been fixed with a hack (as mame is made to run the games hardware as faithfully as possible, not necessarily playable). Apart from that there are no real problems that i can see. All the shadows and sounds are there, start is the start button, back is coin button. What other problems are there with the MAT2 versions??
the mame for xbox still runs buggy. very buggy with sound up. its the system hardware that will not allow the games to run as they should. they were designed to play only through their arcade mother board. not xbox or ps2. and if they actually ported the games, then it would not be a midway treasures first of all, second of all it would be more than 20 dollars. so its 20 bucks guys. of games that will run only as they can emulated wise. to me, they run better with the sound way better than mame with sound on. so its an improvement over emulation on a console. wait for xbox 2. you'll see the emulation is way better.
As has been said many times, the current systems esp. the xbox are quite capable of running these games. All they need is a bit of tweaking to the MAME emulation. The fact that they are running it on a closed system that the programmers know every little thing about should make it even easier.
