What did you think of the playable bosses in PSX MKT? And of the 4, who is the best?

I remember back in 1997 after seeing MKT had Goro playable, I couldn't wait to pick it up. The videogame store never had a copy (popular at the time I guess) so I couldn't get my hands on it. I even rented a Saturn and MKT from blockbuster just to play the game, cus they didn't have the PSX for rent. So I eventualy got it and found out that; A) Goro looked kinda weird in the MK3 backgrounds and B) He wasn't all that fun to use.

So I'm wondering what everyone else thought of all the bosses (bar MK1 shang) finally being playable? And do you guys think they are still fun to use?

I know that all four are at the top of any full MKT tier list, but I'd also like to know what the order between them is.

For me, Shao Kahn is the most fun, Kintaro and Motaro somewhat, and Goro not too great I'm afraid.

So what's everyone elses opinion on the MKT bosses?

Oh, and I think Treasure #10; "Battle vs. the Shokan champions" is awesome.

I think Kahn beats the rest.

But more than anything I wish there was an option to get them off the select screen. They ruin random select.

And count Noob and Rain as bosses as well, so when bosses are turned off they are gone as well.

Motaro has a corner infinite on the bosses that is inescapable with his grab, however it is difficult to get into this position even with the teleport. Shao Kahn has the most options. The bosses are pretty much irrelevant.

Amen to that! It doesn't matter if you're playing as them or against them. No one is going to have fun. Bosses are very limiting and boring to play with. Playing against them is sucky because they good turtleing options, and do huge amounts of damage.

Yes they really, really do. Strange that they seem to get picked quite often via random as well, or maybe it's just me.
I think there should have been an extra option in the "?" menu that disables them, and darkens their select screen avatars, kinda like after you've picked who you're going to morph into w/ Shang Tsung.

Didn't know of that inf. has it been in a video before? Shao Kahn does seem to be the best, and imo most fun to use.

What about turning on 'Normal Boss Damage' - how much does that affect their dominance?

I kinda like playing against them with someone with a relaunch pop-up, it's often very easy against them.

Speaking of which, that blockable Reptile inf. in the vid in my sig that was discussed over at umk.com recently, is very possible on Goro. Dunno if the bosses have different properties and blocking rules, would getting on Goro make it unblockable? Or do the same rules apply as for verses Sheeva or the robots etc.?

And one final note, one bonus of 3 of the bosses is of course, the taunts! I love Goro and Kintaro's roar, and Shao Kahn's are just awesomely insulting! Though I do miss Goro's soundbyte and "Shao Kahn wins" or "I win" when winning a round with kahn.

Dude, bosses can block in the middle of an autocombo. I tried anyway because I have nothing better to do, they can still block at the same point like for sheeva+robos, first hit after dash.

Cool thread. I have to say being the Emperor Shao Kahn was the best. It was cool being the big guy for once, but Kintaro was awesome as well. Goro was okay, as well as Motaro. MKT was one of the best MK classics.

Lol at the first part, the select cursor seems to fly right down to the bottom of the select screen and dance across the boxes of the four bosses whenever I use random select.

Yeah, I forgot bosses could block in the middle of auto combos, that's just awesome. And thanks for checking if it was blockable, it certainly looked it.

I agree, Kahn and Kintaro are the most fun. The bosses can be fun (for about 5 mins) when you just smack around your opponent with such dominance and authority, kinda like beating ass with Minion in Twisted Metal 2.

A bunch of us use to play it regularly, the rule was, if you chose Minion and lost, you had to retire for the day. DreemerNJ and I use to play with these guys Steve and Steve. Didn't you beat one of them as Minion with Twister? Shield and Tornado, still taking a bit of chip damage from Minion colliding with her.

Heh, good rule, possible to lose in New York, Antarctica or Rooftop's though, since he can be a bitch to handle.

Nothing beats outrunning Minion's special with Grimm jamming down the turbo in the Field of Screams...or pulling off Minion's special w/ a regular character to win the match...or catching someone in the Hong Kong Tunnels with lighting (especialy if they are riding the train)...or the full health regenerating - you both are near death - you both see it come back - and you get it first...man that game's awesome.

We never use the power up in 1 on 1. Funny power up related story though, I was Twister on Hong Kong fighting Dark Tooth once, and I went into the buliding to get the FPU, I had 1 pixel of life left, turboed over the jump, and drove under it, slammed into the wall and died.

My favorite was Axel, Minion Special someone, then machine guns, ram, Axel power. Pretty much kills most cars.

Hehe, I've had a few stories like that. One of the funniest / best I remember was when I was playing my buddy , we were both near death, I froze him on a breaking ice floe in Antarctica and I watched it break off and him fall - I coulda rammed him or machine gunned him to death, but prefered to let him fall and gloat. However, he shot a napalm. Unsuspecting, I heard it and reacted, but put on my shield a second too late. I got nailed by the napalm, my shield comes on, and he dies hitting the water right after...that sucked.

Another I remember, I was playing the same guy in front a bunch of our friends (we were all into TM2) when I was still raw at the game. We ended up at a stand off in New York, both with minimal life, both out of pick ups, specials and turbo, firing off machine guns until either of us got a special or died. Then I looked at my 'green meter' and it was full. I whipped off a Minion's special and everyone went crazy.

That reminds me of a couple of our rules, we always played with super machine guns on, and never puposefully destroyed the regenerator in Moscow (makes it really boring if you do). We also started to use 'sell your soul' but then banned it, after playing Cyburbia once for way too long.

I'm down for some TM2 if I ever see you guys online. I tried it once with some guy on kailerra (that's how I got epsxe actually) but it didn't work. The game started to load, then just went blacksad Hopefully it was a one off.

Well, they are useful to get by the endurance rounds, especialy on the harder difficulties. I prefer to face Goro, Kintaro, Motaro and Kahn with a regular character though, especialy one with a relaunch...

I've never been able to get TM2 to work online. Very annoying.

Lately when I play Steve and Steve in TM2, we use Megamachine guns as well. Also, DreemerNJ and I call the special move meter the "run bar" lol. Steve and Steve also adopted this phrase, specifically they say it when one of them dies and has no shield "I couldn't get a shield on cause I had no run bar left".

DreemerNJ was amazing at using the shield at precise intervals, it seemed like he always had it available.

One of the Steve's specializes with Shadow, and the other, Spectre (even though he is cheezey top tier in the game), but now he has mastered return set up boomerangs with Roadkill, it's pretty impressive. I still chug along with Axel though. It usually comes down to the point where I am in the yellow, they get over confident, and eat a ram to Axel Power and are in the red. Side ramming with Axel's wheels can = 50% on a frozen Spectre.

I am trying to remember crazy end game scenarios but I can't right now, maybe tomorrow.

I dont like to use the bosses that much.

And when i play VS with someone i always put in MKT's cheat for regular damage for bosses.

But in strongest to least strongest:
Kintaro
Shao Kahn
Motaro
Goro

Yeah Goro was a pansy, for being undefeated for that long of time. They should have made Goro more unstoppable and ruthless. Kintaro can kick Goro and Motaro's ass. Hell, Motaro could defeat Goro. The only one I think Goro can defeat now is Moloch.

Well Kintaro is basically the strongest, just do his Teleport Stomp over and over again and youll win.

Goro sucks because he really doesnt have great moves,no teleport stomp, and hes so easy to kill.
