But you forget faster and deeper gameplay then the previous MKs. I think if Mk3 didn't happen with the improvements it had over MK1 and MK2, the MK series would have really died out much faster. It turned MK into a tourny worthy game series.

I liked MK3 to be was an inprovment over MK2, but the only thing I would say that I wish they had was more gory fatalies. Other wise I loved MK3.
Note: No MK fighting game has ever failed or sold poorly. Only the MKM: subz-zero and the other one staring Jax didn't do well.

MK3 was bad because the whole thing just felt rushed.
It was like they tried to cram more content into the game without worrying about even making the content good. Animalities only had like 3 frames of animation and the characters are dumb.
They also tried to throw together a combo system becuase combos were the rage of the time, but it didn't work.
But the biggest thing that turned people off to MK3 was that the fatalities were horrible. They weren't brutal, visceral, or even graphic. Instead, they were stupid, pansy, and PG-rated.
And Motaro....hahahahahahaha!!!!! After seeing how much cooler Kintaro was than Goro, I figured the new sub-boss would be even cooler. Instead, Motaro was absolutely deplorable. His animations sucked and he was just lame looking.
Also, why did they make Shang Tsung look like Alice Cooper?
MK3 was as bad as bad could be. And I was a HUGE MK and MKII fan, so I wanted to support MK3. After seeing it, I just couldn't because of how lame it was. MK3 ruined the MK franchise so much that it is just now starting to get respect again.
