What is your best memory from any of the MK Arcade/Home versions?
I remember playing Reptile in MK1 when i was like 7-8 and gettin beat down quick. But ever since he's been tied w/ Sub Zero for my favorite character.

- Accidently doing Baraka's decapitation fatality to Kitana (i didn't know how to do any fatalities at the time so it was real cool to me)
- Finally, beating that asscrack Kintaro
- Seeing Scorpion on the UMK3 select screen

In order from most memorable:
1)When i saw the arcade of MK3, the characters were just so fresh and fascinating. It had this feel to it, it was modern. I loved that game.
2)When i saw kitana and jade playable in UMK3. I was like "NO WAY!, COOL!" and i played as kitana, and got my butt kicked.
3)Knowing kitana was going to be in MKDA.

In the arcade MK2, one guy played as Scorpion and the other as Sub-Zero. The guy playing as Scorpion won and he did the Toasty fatality. I remember getting a little scared cause of the image of the skeletion burning and the realistic screaming. Now that was a fatality right there...
1) Doing the Shang Kintaro morph Fatality in a tournament final to win the tournament in 1994.
2) Playing MKI for the first time at an arcade in Sylvan Lake, and watching someone beat Shang Tsung in 1992.
3) Being the first person to get the Ultimate Kombat Kode on my local MK3 machine and unlocking Smoke!

1)Finally learning when I was younger on how to
execute special moves, and Fatalities.
2)Seeing Ermac pull off a Friendship in Ultimate
MK3 when he beat me. It was pretty lame. All
he did was stand there in his fighting stance.
I believe it is a glitch, but almost every time
he does it, like he's mocking me to figure it
out.
3)Placing 1st in an MK4 Tournament in my local
arcade, and always having my intials up on 1st
place with well over 120wins, which is about how
many people participated in the tournament.

MK1- Seeing everyone get excited when some guy pulled off Sub-Zero's Fatality in the arcades. Great moment and the beginning of the MK trend in my local arcade.
MK2- Seeing Smoke and Jade pop their heads out from behind the trees in the living forest. They were the talk for the longest time.
Also fighting Shao Kahn for the first time. Kahn was such a better boss and I knew he would probably be coming back for another game.
MK3- Same as the other person said. It looked very modern and sleek. Plus the cyber-ninjas surprised me big time when I seen them.
Seeing Shao Kahn back and pumped up. Also Motaro was a surprise instead of seeing another 4 armed beast.
UMK3- Seeing Scorpion and Reptile back. Then eventually playing as Ermac and Human Smoke which rocked.
MK4- It was 3-D.

First playing it in a bowling alley only weeks after it came out (I was young - I'm 21 now, so do the math) but I live in CHicago, so this was before the rest of the country got it, I believe. I picked Sonya and played against Liu Kang, lost, and got twirlkick-fatalitied into the pit.
My dad was so horrified he complained to management.
The best memory, though, was going to the store to buy the first MK on Mortal Monday. I played that thing non-stop until MKII came out...

MK1 - Playing against reptile for the first time as scorpion. I was so hyped up, and i couldnt believe i actually fought him for the first time. I didnt know how to fight him at all or anything, so this was a big suprise. I loved my suprises when i was little.
MK2 - Doing fatalities all by my own. I used to just press every button and do weird combinations when it would say "finish him/her", and to my suprise, one day it just happened when i was playing as mileena. I did her "suck" move, and i was VERY shocked and happy. One of my best moments ever. I also experienced tons of other fatalities on my own with different characters. This made me even more happy, because when i used to see the CPU do fatalities on me, i would always wonder how to do them.
- Seeing kintaro for the first time. I used to always lose to shang tsung, and i would never make it to kintaro. One day, i was playing, and i beat shang tsung out of luck with my boy baraka. I always use to wonder who kintaro was and how he looked like. So when i saw him for the first time, my jaw dropped and my eyes almost came out of my sockets! THE GUY WUZ HUGE! I was like, holy shit, i'm gonna have to fight this guy? L0l. Another great moment was beating kintaro for the first time. I was amazed when i did it.
- Going against shao kahn for the first time. I was thrilled to fight the final boss for the first time, even though i got my ass handed to me. This made me play MK2 even more for non-stop hours and hours.
- Beating the whole game for the first time. I was very happy, and i loved barakas ending. Baraka was the first character that i beat MK2 with, and thats how he became my favourite. I also loved his fatalities and looks.
- Fighting Jade for the first time. I was always curious as to what that question mark used to be for on the destination screen.
- Fight smoke for the first time. Damn, he was hard with his speed. I also loved smokes look, and this is how he started to become one of my all time favourite characters. The first time i saw smoke, i thought he was awesome.
- Seeing smoke and jade pop out from behind the trees. I would always wonder who they were and if i could fight them.
- Fighting against noob saibot. Damn, this was one memory to remember, and i wasnt expecting it at all. Me and my cous was playing MK2 vs matches for a long time. When i beat him on the 50th match, this is when the screen changed and i was teleported to goros lair. I was so shocked to see the dark ninja, and luckily i beat him to on my first try.
- Playing as reptile for the first time. I thought he was cool in MK1.
MK3 - Seeing motaro for the first time. Damn, his looks made me go WHOA.
- Seeing kahn again.
- Playing as the cyber ninjas.
- Seeing animalities and brutalities for the first time.
- Fighting smoke. I was a little dissapointed to see him as a cyborg, but i still loved the guy, dont get me wrong. This is how i started to like the cyborgs even more. When i first saw them i thought they were cool.
- Performing combos with the new combo system.
- Beating the whole game with subzero.
MK3U - Getting to play as noob saibot.
- Seeing all the ninjas return as well as seeing new ones.
- Playing as kabal for the first time.
- Human Smoke. Nuff said.
- Playing as rain. I used to wonder who he was on the arcades preview.
MK4 - It was 3D, which got me excited.

Actual game memory-
Between the initial release of MK, and then MK2, I really wasn't following the game very much and had all but forgotten about it. I was only 11 at the time. I was renting I think SF2T from a local video store, when facing the pay counter, directly behind you were the arcade games. I heard the guy playing it, and the sounds and stuff, didn't really phase me, and all of a sudden I heard the Fatality sound and then a scream it made me turn around, I saw Jax falling off the Pit 2 and then hit the ground. From that moment on, I was an MK fan.
Most of my other memories come from beating people. Even at age 14 I was owning up people left and right in UMK3 in as many places as possible. Freehold Mall, West Coast Video, Hazlet Multiplex, boardwalks, etc.
Competition related memory-
I've probably told DreemerNJ this one more times than I should have. When UMK3 first came out I went to Freehold Mall in NJ because I knew it would be there, and saw a crowd standing around what I knew had to be it. There was such great anticipation for me at least to play the game. It was one of those big cabs with the giant screen and controllers set a distance away with a lot of room intbeween, the perfect environment for gaming. This black dude (really has nothing to do with anything but I like to paint a descriptive picture) was beating everyone with Sektor using pretty much only teleport uppercuts, and I thought, "Why is this happening?" So I did something about it. I beat him easily with Scorpion. I remember the first time he did a teleport uppercut I blocked it, HP, harpoon, 4 hit combo. It flowed off so easily and I thought, "This game is awesome and these people are not." I beat several others after that to the point where I had to leave because my mother was done shopping and wanted to go home. I used the famous, "Here take my game." phrase to the kid behind me and left.
That memory is from almost 9 years ago.

A nice memory was when my local video store got MK3 the day before it came out for SNES and I got to rent it that night. I remember I was disappointed with a lot of it, I think I had high expectations with how cool MK2 was on SNES. A lot of the musics and stuff, which I was looking forward to were badly done even by SNES par. I also thought picking Nightwolf's voice for all the male characters was a bad idea. I think a better idea would have been to give Sheeva the regular female voice and either had two voices for the males, or maybe some other things that were missing here and there. I guess it wasn't a favorite memory, but it was a long lasting one. First character I picked was Shang Tsung. I was immediately angered by how squashed the game looked.

But MK3 is still a good game. I play it even now (it works on my PS2, while MKT gets frozen
and love to use Sektor, Shang Tsung and Kung Lao. It may not have quite lived up to the large expectations, but it is fun to play against your friends(especially) and in one-player mode. It is hard to beat, as both Shao Kahn and Motaro are incredibly cheap. But it had to follow MK2, the best of the series.....

- My first time ever seeing MKII in the arcade. I still remember it clearly; the match was Kung Lao vs Jax, in The Armory. It was in a small comic store and there was a crowd of about ten people by the machine in the back.
- Totally flipping out when I saw people to multiple Babalities and Friendships in MKII (it was the 2.1 version).
- My parents paying to enter me in an MKII tournament at Nathan's. I thought it was so cool that they actually supported my MK love like that.
- Seeing MK3 in an arcade when I honestly had NO idea it was coming out. I was going crazy!
- Typing up MK3 move lists and selling them at a garage sale
- A 10th grade field trip to Six Flags Great Adventure... they had one of those big MK3 machines that MK2KungBroken described. I had a 5-win steak against human opponents while my whole class cheered me on. That's just one of my best gaming memories ever, period.
- In 2001, I was at a church youth convention. We stayed in this hotel in syracuse. I actually bought a PS1 and a bunch of games, so a bunch of use were playing Trilogy. But later on I went downstairs, and they had an MKII machine in the lobby - and to my surprise, a genuine CROWD had formed around it. I knew I HAD to get a piece of that... I took my place in line and took on fierce HUMAN competition. After a six win streak I had to leave, so I let some kid take my place. Anyway, what was really surreal and special about this was that it was in TWO-THOUSAND FREAKIN' ONE, when arcades are long-dead (at least in New York). For a brief moment, all the madness of the arcade was alive and well. After that I just couldn't go back to the room and play Trilogy on PSX... I had to just chill and let the awesomeness of that genuine arcade experience sink in.

I'm not saying I don't like MK3, I just meant I was disappointed with the SNES version. I think it could have been better. They even expanded memory for it.
