Pit II was my favorite too. All of the others seem too generic, overkill, or boring and as for the MK4 pits, funny but not timeless in my opinion.

MK2 pit was the best.

SNES MK2? MK trilogy?

They had multiple pits, which one in particular was your favorite out of all of the games ever? So far, everyone above has voted Pit II including myself - timeless.

My favorite has always been Pit from mk1 because the first time I performed it it was a suprise. It also looks cool with all the severed heads and bodies (I had the Sega Cd version, which had all the gore intact) and the Reptile connection.

The Pit II is for sure my top choice. The Pit, however, is the one that started it all, so that's a classic. The Belltower is also a favorite of mine.

"Pit 2" was really great. "The Dead Pool" too. But the best shocking effect has "The Pit", the original from MK one. Right!?

the pit in mk 2 it was brilliant when i first saw it.

I remember the Pit II caused me to go insane and laugh like a madman for 5-10 mins, not because it was "cool" but because it was so overrated and hurt my eyes.

Now the Pit III or whatever, not thats a painful one.

The Prison Stage, Pit 1, and Pit 2 were the best seeing the first time when I did them.

I don't get how the pit II could be "genious," it's so simple: guy falls off bridge, splatters on ground below. No spikes, no blades, no other dead bodies, just flat, solid concrete. It's not bad, but by far the best are the pit 1 (which happens to be the wallpaper on my desktop) and the dead pool, especially when you know Liu Kang in and hold down..."wooooooooo" (at least on snes; dunno about other systems)

I would rate the pits as follows:

5. Pit 3
6. Bell Tower
7. Hell
8. Goro's Lair (MK4)
9. Prison
10. Subway (I fucking hate that stupid thing)

The first Pit is definitely my favorite. The stage fatalities in MK2 were cool too, and I like the fact that there are more of them, but they didn't really improve anything from the first one. The ones in MK3 are mostly just stupid, but the Belltower is OK. MK4's stage fatalities are nothing to get excited over, IMO... In fact I think the 'Continue' screen with your character falling down the well is alot cooler than the actual stage fatalities. :D

I like the pit in MK1 the best.

Well I unfortunately was very young when the first 2 games came out so i can't really remember them and I never liked MK3 so I didn't play it that much, if anyone has links to where I could find vids of the fatalities it'd be appreciated, of what I kow though I'd have to say I liked the deadpool the best.
