Ermac was not actually in MK1 the game, but in UMK3, his storyline says that he has been in hiding since the first Mortal Kombat, and he wins the tournament to prove his existance because no one in the earth realm or the outworld believed that he existed.

In MKT, they changed his storyline into something a lot better. He was instead an amalgamation of souls of defeated Warriors slain at the hands of Shao Kahn. They put together a force strong enough to defeat Kahn once and for all.

THANKS FOR THE INFO...did i read correctly that he was a programing error entitled "error macro__" something in MKI? meaning he was never supposed to be in it and that error message is how he got his name?

His name is derived from ERMAC which was seen in the MK1 audits, sort of a cause and effect. The fans believed that he was a possible hidden character, and since ERMACS was listed under REPTILE BATTLES, they put 2 and 2 together and came up with a character named Ermac. There is a huge Ermac thread on this board, with over 200 posts, and it is a war back and forth between the believers and non-believers. I believe the end of it all came when someone finally delivered the picture of Ermac from the EGM Magazine, and the article from it as well, that proved it was a hoax.

It is impossible for Ermac to be an error the way it is explained by the guy who claims to have gotten him. They make several isolated references to Ermac, 2 of which were before he played against him. He appears before a match saying "I will fight you in the Warrior Shrine" and another instance "I am Ermac you will not defeat me." Both of which are blatant lies as no other person on earth has ever seen this. He said he proceeded to fight him using only punches, double flawless, against his friend, both using Johnny Cage, on the Warrior Shrine.

The general theory is that ERMAC is an error correction system implimented in the game's programming in order to allow it to reset itself without crashing, which is just not true since no one has ever seen the ERMAC counter in the audits at anything other than 0, along with Kano Transformations and Johnny Cage Transformations, which were in MKII and MK3. There would be no reason for a system like this to exist in a game of MK1's magnitude, it's just not necessary.

Given all this, it would seem that the most popular belief, that he is a glitch, is impossible. The other belief, that he was an intended hidden character, is equally impossible. Both contradict eachother so completely that they cancel eachother out.

So the very dark and crappy picture shows Ermac standing in the Warrior Shrine, with his hand raised, and in bright white, heavily contrasting letters, it says "Ermac Wins" above him. The picture is consquently taken perfectly straight up and down, flawlessly, which for all intents and purposes is impossible. Most likely, even back in 1993, they took a scan of a screen shot in a magazine, and doctored it in Photoshop 1.0 lol, or, it was just a hoax done by the magazine itself.

I don't think Ermac was even in the Warrior Shrine in that pic. It looks more like the Palace Gates to me.

There is a pic. It's somewhere around The Classic MK Games Discussion.

Wrong dingus, a lot of us believed in Ermac because it was seemed like a quite plasuable error-fixing trap thoery up until we saw the bullshit story that went with the EGM pic.

Yeah, as was said its around the forums here somewhere. Its interesting because its actually a screenshot of Scorpion, in yellow. But the colors for the whole picture are so distorted he turned out tinted and darker so he looked red. The background is tinted, darker, and red as well.

Nimbus Terrafax? And Hornbuckle? Yeah they exist, in our God damn dreams lol, thanks for reminding me. Leanne Hornbuckle is someone in the credits, and there is a message "Hornbuckle Who?" from Jade, so naturally, she was a hidden character, or not.

Ermac was in MK 1 but he was a total mistake. The comp spit out a red scorpion and it said Scorpion and nothing more. I'm pretty sure Ed Boon said it only happened once also. So technically he wasn't in the game since it was Scorpion just with red since it was an error macro which is why they named him Ermac.

Ermac didn't appear as a real character with the name Ermac until UMK3 which he was a secret character.

You could say Ermac was almost like Reptile in MK1 where it says Scorpion except Ermac was a mistake unlike Reptile and well he only had Scorpion's moves since he was Scorpion just messed up.

Also I'm pretty sure that the 1 time it happened was not on any local arcade machine but on Midway's tester version or just their regular version which they fooled with.

So if someone is going to say Ermac was in the game when it was just a 1 time messed up Scorpion.......well you can call them wrong.

CMETH, No. None of that ever happened. Please read the shit we've worked on as a group to settle this in the Ermac thread.

http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?name=classic&message;=6311&page;=1

And Quirk's Ermac thread

http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/content/forum/showmessage.cds?name=classic&message;=5141&page;=1

What you just said is totally based on unprovable hearsay. There's no concrete backing to anything involving Ermac in MK1, and no real evidence. The only existing physical evidence is a fake picture from EGM. The story behind that picture makes it that much more fake. Stop spreading what we all know isn't true. Do we really need a sticky about not asking Ermac MK1 questions?

I never said Ermac was in it. All I said was that there was a red Scorpion which did happen.

I read it awhile ago but I did read it from an official site that talked to Ed Boon about it.

You can believe what you want, but do not say I'm just talking about something that I know nothing of. Also I already read that thread.

I remember that Ed Boon said it something like this.

They got the name Ermac from an Error Macro that happend. The error marco was that the hardware/comp spit out a Scorpion and his color was red though. Also I think they said he was extremely hard due to alot of glitches with the throws, hits and everything since the hit detection of the game was off. It happened on their machine when they were testing.

Like I said, I read it awhile so I don't have any proof and it might have been worded different. But I'm not lying as there is no point to.

Also Ed Boon said Ermac wasn't in the game and he was right since it was only a red Scorpion and at the time UMK3 was not out of course which means Ermac didn't exist as of yet.......just that red error macro Scorpion.

But hey, to each his own. You believe what you want and I believe what I read.

You need to seriously chill. I did pay attention to what everyone said. I was merely giving my opinion on this matter from what I read.

If you still have a problem with that, well then tough.

If you truly paid attention to everything everyone said in that forum, you would not have the position you do on Ermac in MK1.
