I have never played the N64 version but I know it has at least a couple more fatalities including boss fatalities and no loading time. The Playstation version has loading time and doesn't play well on PS2. I have the Playstation version but wish I had the N64 one.

Playstation. Only good thing the N64 version is good for is screen shots because the character models are better. But actually play it and you'll see right away the framerate is horrible, the sound is horrible, and it's just so glitchy. Like the Pit. The opponent goes 500 feet in the air and falls on their back like they're a sheet of wood. The Playstation's character models aren't as pretty and the loading is a bitch at first but you get used to it. Perfect framerate, sound, more characters, etc.

a couple of things I like about the n64 1 is that it has more challenges, more stages, and more fatalitys expecially the bosses.

actually I think the PS1 has more stages, but it is harder on the N64 becuz of the N64 controller. It wasnt ment for fighting games, thats for sure.

PSX has more Fatalities than N64.

N64 has an extra one for Scorpion and one each for the bosses. That's 3 the PSX doesn't have.

PSX has two for unmasked Sub-Zero and 4 for the classic characters(1 each). Which means 6 that N64 does not have.

N64 has two stages PSX does not, the hidden portal and the star bridge. Both are pretty lame cut and paste jobs of other stages.

PSX has one stage N64 does not, Kahn's Arena.

Playstation, of course!!!Why, it's simple:
The graphics are the same of the arcade of Mortal kombat 3 (repeat, same as the arcade, and i'm not kidding!!!look for youselves!!!)All the characters and all the bosses for select and almost all the arenas...
Load time does'nt means nothing, it jut a few seconds of waiting, and the last one, but not less important, the chameleon on the PSX is all the ninjas in one and the N64 is only a "three-in-one women ninja (sucks!!!)
and the characters construction is better on Playstation, and i could talk about the two versions, because i have both two...
And that's all!!!

When MKT first came out EGM did a special section comparing the N64 to the PSX versions. Four of EGM's people did the comparison, and were asked to pick which one they thought better. 3 out of 4 picked the PSX.

The PSX has the extra characters, the classic characters, better graphics, control, and sound, and even an option to limit Shang Tsung's morphing to have instant load time, at the sacrifice of being able to morph into anyone. Scorpion doesn't have his Hell Summon fatality (replaced with the firey hand).

The N64 version has fatalities for the bosses, no load times, the hidden endurance ladders, 3-on-3 Kombat, and more hidden options. Scorpion has all three fatalities.

The N64 version has one Sub-Zero, masked, but incorporates the moves of both Sub-Zero's, including the Ice Clone and Ice Shower. The PSX has both Sub-Zero's.

The N64 has that mysterious Ultimate Kombat Kode that has never been figured out, and is believed to not even exist, that unlocks Human Smoke and Khameleon (female) as playable characters. The PSX has all the characters selectable from the start.

Johnny Cage's fatality is different in both versions. D,D,F,F + LK on the N64 will make him perform a shadow kick that knocks the opponent's torso out. The PSX version makes him bend the opponent over his back until they explode.

Babalities and Friendships on the N64 version cannot be done if you press Block. They can on the PSX, which removed that restriction.

Both versions have 30 stages, but there is some discrepencies between them. The N64 version has the Hidden Portal (Smoke's stage from MK3), and the Star Bridge (Pit II with a starry background), while the PSX has the Bank and Kahn's Arena. Both also have Noob's Dorfen (Noob's hidden stage in UMK3, but that's the only one that can only be accessed through a Kombat Kode. In the N64 version, all stages can be accessed through a Kombat Kode, while this is not possible in the PSX version. In the N64 version, you can uppercut from Goro's Lair to the Armory, and from the Armory to the Kombat Tomb, not possible in PSX.

The Pit in the N64 version has a different background replaced with a starry one. The moon, and the shadows that fly across it, are still there. You can access a hidden game (1 of 3 the N64 has), by pressing the Z button if a shadow flies by. There are no hidden bonuses with the PSX's Pit.

The N64's Pit also has a glitch in it. If you uppercut the opponent into the pit, you can hit them as they come back down from high in the air (this will not work however if certain hidden options are enabled), and when they hit the spikes they'll get up and stand on them.

There are three hidden games in the N64 version, Pong, Galga, and Galaxian. Pong occurs after 50 matches, Galga after 100, and Galaxian is accessable from the Pit if a shadow flies by. Kombat Kodes can also unlock the games, as well as selecting them from Shao Kahn's treasures after you beat the game. The PSX version has no hidden games.

The Shao Kahn's Treasures after you beat the game is also different. The N64 version has two sets of rewards to choose from, while the PSX only has one.

It really is a matter of preference, but I think you'll find more people prefer the PSX version, simply because the Playstation could handle more of a game than the N64 cartridge could.

To add to that already long list....

N64 has reverse Babalities.

PSX uses the UMK3 Supreme Demo while N64 has EVERY character.

Motaro and Kahn have endings(though very lame) on PSX.

Many endings have artwork on PSX.

PSX has a short FMV intro, N64 uses game footage like MK II and UMK3.

N64 has a few opening bios for characters that are not in PSX.

N64 has more Kombat Kodes.

N64 Nightwolf has a new Friendship.

N64 Stryker's Friendship is like his MK3 arcade one, not the home version one on PSX.

Classic Sub-Zero has no Animality on PSX.

One more small difference is that because the N64 cartridge didn't have enough room, all stages in that version have a music track from MK3. The PSX version has MK2 music for the MK2 stages (MK1 stages use MK3 music). This also applies in the PSX version when you do a fatality. If you're in an MK1 or MK3 stage, you'll get the MK3 fatality jingle, while if you're in an MK2 stage, you'll get the MK2 sound.

To make it less confusing, this is the actual list of stages that are in both versions:

Shared (in both versions)

MK1
Courtyard
The Pit
The Pit Bottom
Goro's Lair

MK2
Dead Pool
Kombat Tomb
Wasteland
Tower
Living Forest
Armory
Pit II
Portal

MK3
Subway
Street
Rooftop
Balcony
Bridge
Soul Chamber
Bell Tower
Church
Graveyard
Pit III

UMK3
Waterfront
Jade's Desert
Kahn's Kave
Scorpion's Lair
Noob's Dorfen (Kombat Kode Only)

The ones that don't exist in both versions:

N64 Only
Hidden Portal (Smoke's MK3 stage)
Star Bridge (Pit II with starry background, Khameleon is accessed from here if Toasy appears and you press Down + Start)

PSX Only
Shao Kahn's Arena (They kept the effect in that if one player is Shao Kahn in this stage, then Kahn will not be in his throne).
The Bank (MK3 stage below the Rooftop)

I have never seen Saibot's Dorfen on MKT for PSX. As far as I know none of the level select Kombat Kodes work on PSX.

N64 Rain's stance is different. He uses Reptile's.

Ok, The Dorfen might not be in the PSX/PC version (they're both EXACTLY the same, nothing more than a direct port), though I thought I saw it there.

THE PSX version is better. even the ratings at IGN.com and Gamespot sites were higher for the PS version than the 64 version. Even the Sega saturn Version is better than the 64 version. 64 version sucks itself to hell
