He's talking about the Kave or the Courtyard... Kahn's Arena is the one from MK2...

Anyways... So I like the PSX version better, but can anyone tell me how the sprites on MKT for PSX are worse than for N64? Personally, I found that PSX version was a lot better... Even the sprites looked smoother... Not to mention the frame rate... And hell... I can finally play as Kintaro!!!! The point is, I'd like to see the difference... Does anybody have ant comparison pics? Cause I really only noticed a difference in frame rate... otehr than sound, gameplay etc... I have both versions btw...

If you've seen side-by-side comparisons (given that the images are the same size), it'll appear that the PSX sprites are a tiny bit smaller and thinner than the N64 sprites. Same holds true for the VS screen where that difference applies as well.

Well, I guess it's a fair trade-off considering the fact that MKT for PSX has the rest of the bosses, and the unmasked sub-zero plus the classic characters... In any case, I do have both versions, so I'm not missing out on anything...

I don't know what you guys are talking about when you think the PSX version has better graphics. In the N64 version the characters a larger, more detailed, and have smoother graphics.

I had both versions for a while, then traded in my PSX version because I never played it anymore. Sorry guys, but the N64 version was just plain better. The AI was less cheap. Scorpion had a 3rd fatality. SubZero had more moves. The N64 controller was actually better than the PSX controller because you had the block and run on the face. The d-pad was slightly better as well. And like I said, much better graphics.

The only thing you really miss are the lack of classic characters. That and out have to turn the volume way up in the N64 version.

The fact of the matter is that most people like the PSX version better because....that was the only version they had.

I'd have to go ahead and disagree with you there. I did try N64 and PSX versions pretty extensively. I thought the graphics were choppier and had fewer frames overall. The gameplay was different. PSX preserved a lot of gameplay elements and limitations from UMK3 that were cut from the N64 version allowing things like 84 rain roundhouses to combo.

Also, the background musics were not on par and they had to cut characters. They did add moves to Classic Sub Zero, but thats only because they got rid of Unmasked Sub Zero.

Overall, and this is my opinion because what everyone has said so far has been their opinion, PSX is better because it has tighter gameplay, better graphics and sound overall, and more characters.

Choppier? The PSX characters were more pixlated, less detailed, and smaller. I wish I had some screen caps to back it up.

Oh and load time, man. I don't tend to whine about small things like load time, but it was just exhausting on the PSX version,

I would have to agree. I find the PSX controllers superior because the run and block buttons can be assigned to the shoulder buttons. MK, especially MKT requires a lot of buffering while blocking and its just too annoying to have multiple fingers on the face of the controller. By having the shoulder buttons, buffering becomes easier and the level of gameplay can be raised.

You have block and run on the shoulders too in the N64 version. I just find it more accurate on the face sometimes. I actually use both.

1st off let me say that I am not anti Nintendo nor am I anti sony. Ok I own the N64 version of MKT. It is very good. I have only played the N64, and I have only read about the PS1 verion of it( sadly I never owned a PS1 :.( ). After reading about the pro and cons of each system. I* think that the PSX version was the best. I think so cause the N64 verion of it had low sound, I had to turn my TV up like yo like 90% just to hear the music and stuff. The N64 had the advanage of loading and the better graphics. Shangs morphs where instant. The PS1 version had load times.( since I never played the game to see where it loads I am sure that it loaded when shang morphed and I think not sure at the VS screen) .The PS1 version had most if not all levels from past MKs, N64 had a good amount but none compared to the PSX one. The thing that pissed me real off about the N64 version of MKT was the fact that the N64 one only had 1 sub-zero. Man I was so mad that was only 1 subby. Sure the sub that was on the N64 one had the other sub-zero moves was cool but it screw around with the MK storyline from the arcade version >:.l. A few other reasons why I* think the PS1 version was better was that you could control MK1's raiden, kano and few others I forget and you could play as Kintaro and Gore which you could do on the N64 version. That is why I* think the PS1 version was better than the N64, again I am not an fanboy of any system. peace :.l

Playstation...

I guess because you got the two different Sub-Zeros, and you have the other bosses. But I think he "Super Sub-Zero" in N64 was kind of neat. I didn't like Khameleon, I rather would have Chameleon.

Umm...

It was meant for any game. It just a matter of getting used to the "new-generation" controller. Particularly, I find it very easy to do anything with every game and mostly with MK Trilogy.

actually I think the PS1 has more stages, but it is harder on the N64 becuz of the N64 controller. It wasnt ment for fighting games, thats for sure.

Well, I like the one for playstation better. Sure it has loading time (which n64 obviously doesnt have), but it has better everything in my opinion. One cheat code that playstation has that n64 doesnt have is 1 button fatalities. Thats right People I said 1 Button Fatalities (and its not just fatalities, it also includes animalities, friendships, and babalities). Plus, the playstation version has better and more secret characters. N64s secret characters are Shao Kahn, Motaro, Human Smoke, and Chameleon. Playstations secret characters are Shao Kahn,Motaro,Goro,Kintaro,Human Smoke,MK2 Kung Lao,Mk1 Raiden, and MK1 Kano. I think ive proven my point.

I'd have to go with the PSX version. I liked the N64 version and all, don't get me wrong, but it didn't feel that much like Mortal Kombat to me...I don't know why but it didn't. The minute I played the PSX version I felt at home. I had no problem with the Shang Morph Loading time, it gave me a minute to stop and think up a new strategy if I needed to (to lazy to actually use the pause button). I wish I had Trilogy but I don't have a PSX or N64. I'm stuck with Mk 1, 2, and UMK3 on Genesis. But I'm buying a psx just for trilogy. Unless I find it on pc first grin.

For me the two verions are very similar, identical and i'll explain why:
Pro psx:
1 More characters
2 you can use the bosses
3endings with images (only mk3 characters)
4useful code wìth 1 button fatality.
5better jypad(it's just a habit question,but i hate nintendo's joypad)
6 two sub zeros
Cons psx
1 A strange black line stay with characters'sprite(also nintendo 64 has it but the line is green and can be removd with newest TV)
2 MkT for N64 is quickest and in n64 you don't have to complain with UMK3 Mame version(the best MK third chapter verson for many, not for me).
3chameleon can use all male ninja's moves, but he haven't so much storyline,Khameleon yes.
3 Khamelon is a character with a huge fanbase,Chameleon not
4Shap Kahn and Motaro have (cheap) fataty.
5 n64 has a better graphics,sprites,resolutions,ecc
6Johnny Cage second fatality in psx version is very stupid.
In n64 he has the "Forcefull Shadow Kick" which is a lot better.

I personally prefer Psx verion, but they are the same.
The only thing is n64 joypad...

I used to have both versions, both psx and N64. But now I only have the N64 version. I lost the PSX one. maybe Ill find it one day. anyways...

I can definitely say the graphics looks alot better on the N64 than the PSX (if you discount animations). The color pallate looks more choppy and cheap on the PSX; it looks like they used less colors for the graphics. ALthough neither versions look just like MK3 arcade. You can either get some mk3 arcade pics, or play it, and youll see a big difference. I MEAN BIG DIFFERENCE!. neither one looks just like the arcade! But THe n64 version deffinetely looks closer to the arcade than the PSX. In fact, the PSX versions graphics almost remind me of the snes mk3 graphics, which were real cheap looking. Both versions use a lower resoultion and less colors than were used for the arcade. Its impossible for either one to look Identical to the arcade (which is evident)

Did I mention baraka's fighter select pic for the PSX looks like he has one tooth, like a chipmunk? I dont know how the programmers screwed that up, But I do know the SNES mk2 baraka pic has the same thing, a one toothed baraka!!!! Maybe this has something to do with it. And the PSX resolution looks slightly lower on the PSX version, although both versions had a crappy lower resolution.

But for gameplay, the PSX did have more fighters to choose from. So which is better depends on what factors you consider important. If you want arcade graphics, go for the N64 version, If you want alot of fighters to choose from, go for the PSX.

The question that leads this forum I bet lol.

Anyway, my take on it is this.Neither are NEAR UMK3 arcade's play, graphics are virtually the same IMO.Not THAT big of a difference, sound is better for the PS, loading times suck and there the N64 versions is better.

PS versions freezes, N64 does not.

PS has more characters then N64, however they're broken MK2, Bosses etc.

Gameplay is not as broken in the PS version as it is in the N64 version but both are fun to play if you ask me.

The N64 version had the nice 3 on 3 mode, PS versions did not.

N64 version had Noob's Dorfen, PS didn't.

So, you see both versions had it's ups and downs honestly I rate them the same because what one lacks in the other makes up for but in the end neither are UMK3 perfect but fun to play.

I play the both of them on both systems MKT.grin

I play MK3 a little bit more on my Midway Arcade though to be honest.
