MK2 by ten thousand miles.
MK1 was fun, and it started off the whole thing, and it had pretty nice graphics, and the best, darkest theme of all of them but MK2 built on that with more characters and a logical continuation of the story.
Then MK3 came out and they just turned the stupid dial all the way up and ruined everything. The fatalities were the stupidest things to ever appear in a video game, with the exception of a very few (Nightwolf's come to mind), and while the gameplay certainly was faster, it was less strategic IMO because the run button turned it into WHOCANHITTHEBUTTONFIRSTIBETICANANDNOWIGETA30%COMBOHAHAHANOOB!

MK2 I have grown to dislike.... half of the characters are swaps, even the new models are basically reworked male assassins.... Baraka is stock monster. Only Kung Lao is the truly doubtfully from-scratch minimal inspiration/homage character from there.
Favourite? MKDA. Best overall? The latest game.

I am a Noob. Haha! Got ya! I'm Sub-Zero. (Anyone who doesn't get that joke has probably never learned MK History)

Mortal Kombat 1 for the Sega Genesis. I like this one best due to it's simple moves and of course, Goro :) Also i like it's "single" fatality system. I mean in MK2 and MK3 you have all these different finishing moves that are particularly long and for some, you have to do some tricky extra bonus crap. The reason why its Sega Genesis is because the Nintendo Censorship was freaking dum. They replaced the blood with sweat.......WHO THE HELL SWEATS THAT MUCH?

they replaced it because nintenmdo didn't allow violence and blood on there systems which I agree nintendo back then and to this day are a bunch of jerks luckly they learned there lessons in mk2 and kept the blood in also in mk1 if you didn't noticed some of the fatalities were takken out

I'd say umk3 but if seriously talking about just mk1-3 then mk3. To me the roster isn't my favorite in mk3 and mk2 roster was a lot more interesting to me. Mk2 also has better fatalities IMO. However the additions of the run button and combos really make mk3 superior to mk1 and 2.

It was also one of the most horribly balanced of the MK games. Noob's infinite was INCREDIBLY easy to do, and the aggressor meter took overpowered combos and poured salt on the open wound. Don't even get me started on the glitches.

MK II is my all time favorite mk game ever!!... the gameplay, the music, design and atmosphere was / still is excellent!!...
back in the 90's i wasn't to fond of the new running / combo features incorporated into mk3... i felt that it totally changed the gameplay around and honestly wasn't liking it...
but years later, i've finally become very fond of liking both UMKIII and MKT... though not having the background music tracks sync with the proper levels drives me frickin bonkers!!... both are still excellent games though

MK1: I realy realy like this game because of the authentic asian style. The game is very good but not the best.
MK2: IMO this MK will always be the best of the 2D klassiks. It has everything MK1 has, but twice as good. Aahh nothing but sweet memories.
MK3: this game was good but also dissapointing..you know..the asian touch..the ninjas and other key-characters. A diverse cast isnt bad but this was a little bit too different. Altough I did like Kabal and some other new characters. I had no problems with the combo-system..instead it was fun. haha kick ass.
UMK3: this game brought back that MK feeling. IMO it was almost as good as MK2. Very very very good game.
MKT: I was a fun game too play. The lack of detail made this game a little bit bad..just a little bit..
So..MK2 is the best game..IMO
bye bye

to me it was mk3 just the fun of comboing the crap out of your enemies is awesome. i had my fun with mk1 and i didnt have much fun with mk2 due to the suckish ai. the run button was a good addition to the game allowing you to quickly get to your foe and pound him! so to me it was mk3 and i cant stand to play cyborg smoke so much
