Those were the whirl wind kicks, a different style of consistent kick. The whirl wind kick is a kick that is aimed at the chest and as seen in Deadly Alliance by Kung Lao, he spins in circles and kicks at the same time, where Liu Kang is upright and kicks consistently without spinning around.

Liu Kang could beat Kung Lao, because he is the champion, the chosen one, and above all, He has defeated every opponent that has challenged him, (if you ignore Shang Tsung's assasination in Deadly Alliance, because that was not a official fight in Mortal Kombat.)

In terms of fighting and defending Earth I would have to say that Liu Kang is more skilled and prepared than Kung Lao.

I always felt that Kung Lao was the more traditional monk and he is more humble than Liu Kang. Shaolin Monks kind of ruined that theory for me, but none of the fans take that story seriously.

lui kang he killed shang tsung and shoa kahn. kung loa died in the 3 tornement trying to lol.

They are both the worst monks ever!!! Monks aren't supposed to kill, and Liu Kang's dragon transformation + Kung Lao's hat split doesn't = not killing. But the least worst monk out of the 2 would have to be liu kang because he didn't kill in MK1.

I'm beginning to agree that Kai is the better of them both. He could rip a man in half with bare hands while Liu Kang gobbles like a turkey and Kung Lao throws a hat.
