This thread was done not too long ago, and you should specify what you mean by best, tier level, story line, fun to play, etc, because some things are set in stone and there's been endless threads that answer that. Opinions threads on this topic are old as well, what you should do is search for a similar topic, post in it and that will either get it bumped or closed depending on relevance.

MK1- Liu Kang. Over all of the other characters, he is my favorite. His moves are easy to do, and it's just plain fun to be Liu Kang.
MK2- Kung Lao. Kung Lao in MK2 is awesome. Even though I suck at the game, he's my best.
MK3- Kabal. His combos are extremely powerful. Great character.
UMK3- Kabal. Same as above.
MKT- Kabal. Same as above... again.
MK4- Scorpion. I got really good with him back in the day. But I don't play MK4 anymore.
MKDA- Kung Lao. He was the coolest looking character in the game (his 2nd costume), and he had the best finisher. Pretty good combos too.
MKD- Raiden. Even though MKD isn't that good, Raiden is still a badass.
MKSM- Haven't played versus yet. Only played a little of single player.

If your list (thread) is based on game play then its wrong. If its base on personal faves (who you like, dislike), then I say:

Mk1: I loved/love them all, they started the series. My fave was Sonya (and she still is to this day), but all of them were amazing. I was shocked with the fatalities and perfect storyline, and also with the beast that was Goro. I had s much fun with the Reptile clues, and I was the happiest kid on earth when I killed Tsung for the first time.

My best characters are Sonya and Johnny Cage.

Mk2: I was really upset Sonya wasn’t playable, but I loved the new faces. Mileena, Kitana, Baraka for example, they were all fantastic! And Shao Kahn was impressive, Kintaro I hated, his character was/is amazing, I like him, but I did not enjoy fighting that intimidating beast, he was too hard. The fatalities were better, and I was happy to see new looks for the classics (Johnny Cage, Rayden, etc). I also loved the secrets and new arenas.

My best characters are Shang Tsung, Mileena and Kitana.

Mk3/U/T: Im in love with this games. They were the first I owned on a PC game, and I was shocked with the new gameplay system. It was so much fun! The combos, the special moves, the extra alities. Excellent game, I only hated the bad things in finishers, like extra skulls and arms floating, etc.

My best characters are Sonya, Sindel, Jade, Ermac, Sub-Zero and Kabal.

Mk4: I liked the 3D improvement. It felt weird to see the new change but I liked it, I didn’t think it looked bad in that time, besides, I was a very fun game, and my old faves were back once again.

My best characters are Sonya, Johnny Cage, Reptile and Quan Chi.

MKDA: My most fave game of all. The wait was worth it. I was pleased.

My best character is Sonya. I can play very well with the rest, but she is the only one I have actually mastered,

MKD: I really enjoy this game, I like it a lot, but its not better then MKDA, I dislike the slight chances in gamplay, the game feels more heavy and slow, its all about blocking and counterattacking.

My best characters are Mileena, Liu Kang, Kabal, Sindel and Nightwolf.

Personal choices:

MK1 - Reptile. Loved his secrecy, the fact he gave you clues and just had this cool, mysterious aura about him. Not too mention he had BOTH Sub Zero's and Scorpion's moves, man - he shoulda been a very secret hidden playable in MK Trilogy.
For regular playable characters, Sub Zero is my fave - probably cus he is blue and has the wicked freeze move, his fatal is the best also.

MKII - Kung Lao. Looks sick, awesome specials, great fatals, cool combo possibilities - plus Reptile, who I'd been freakin out over since MK1 and freaked some more when I found out he was PLAYABLE in mk2 - really sucked ass and let me down

MK3 - Kabal. Deadly. Had the best moves, combos, character design - complete package. Smoke is 2nd, when I saw the dragon symbol spin round the first time at the character select I He was a really cool hidden (noticied I have an affinity for the secret characters?) and looked cool with the smoke surrounding him, along with the trident spear, teleport uppercut and Reptile's invisibilty. Also had the best fatality, in the armegeddon.
Sub Zero's up there too, with the broken super clone, best overall fatals in the game and the techno-retro ninja costume.

MKU - Sub Zero. Why? I love using him, cus "supposedly" he's the worst in the game, and I like to show people why that's blatantly untrue. The clone is still useful, just needs to be used at the right time is all. Ermac is great fun too, insane death man Ermac, he is like the executioner of UMK3.

MKT - Same as above. Others include Scorpion (forward teleport is great fun, it woulda been fantastic if he'd had it in umk3), MKII Kung Lao and Sektor. Goro was the character I'd been freakin out over when I was first looking to get MKT, however (like MKII w/ Reptile) when I got it, I was pretty disappointed with him, big let down. Oh, Shao Kahn is fun as well, especialy with all his taunts

MKM:SZ - Umm, yeah. Uh, moving on...

MK4 - Sub Zero. Returned to the classic costume, classic fatal, very cool. Kai had potential too, his fireballs were nice.

MKG - Kung Lao, the fact you can run in and combo after connecting with his hat is hilarious (even if it is blockable). Haven't used Sektor yet, so can't comment about him.

MKDA - Kung Lao. Whirlwind kick, Shaolin Fist, Mantis, Alt. outfit, Impale - 'nuff said.

MKD - Liu Kang. Makes an imperious return. When I was playing online early on, and ppl picked him (before I'd unlocked him) I was shocked by how cool he was. Sick specials and combos, very fun to use, I used to rock with him online.

MKSM - Kung Lao over Kang, although both are very cool. For vs. I've only unlocked Baraka and Cage so far, so out of the 4 --- I'd say Baraka.

MK1- Sonya, strongest fighter IMO, love the fatality, only female, interesting storyline, hideous cheesy costume, what more could you ask for?

Mk2- Mileena, Oh the prettiness, she is so pretty!!! I LOVE her story and design and she is a powerful fighter.

Mk3-Sonya, very powerful fighter, fast and easy to use, great set of moves and great actress who played her, still don't like the costume but meh.

Sindel, love the gothic, bride of franky look, screamin banshee, flying kick ass storyline.

MK4- Sonya, she was fantastic in this game, I loved everything about her, her outfit as fantastic, her moves were incredible, her bio although not that strong overall was nice to see her work with what she hated the most, the Black Dragon, it also protrayed Sonya as a true hero, jumping at the chance to save her realm.

Tanya, I though she was good until I saw her ending, that made me love her so much more, though I would have liked for Tanya to kill Liu herself. I loved the design of her leotard and her moves were so original and boomerangs kick ass!

MKDA- Sonya, undoubtably, one of, if not the best character in the game. She fought extremely well, I was so pleased with her styles, her outfit was also really nice and I like the thong.Her face wasn't done all that well but only in some shots. Again her story showed she has great care for her allies when she goes to Outworld to save Cyrax and Kenshi.

Nitara, let it be known, vampires kick ass especially when they're as hot as Nitara and I love the wings! As a fighter I loved her and her plot was great.

MKD- Mileena- her story and design have improved insanly and she has to be on of the first characters to have a personality. The way she laughs and twirls and acts all coy and sexy hiding her beautiful smile...ah..*drool..She was also a kickass fighter.

Sindel- The hair!! I love how her hair turned out! I loved it 10 years ago and now I love it even more, I mean look at it, she has such amazing hair!! Ger design was great and I really hope she kills the dragon king.

Tanya, what a bitch! I love her! Her design is great (though I would lose the fringe, get a proper nose and fix her jaw and cheeks) her outfit looks fantastic and I liked how they put some sort of rivalry between her and Jade, works really well!

You know what i notice lately? People coming on to my threads trying to control everything. I started a thread and you just want to run it for me. pick your damn people and leave it at that!

So whether or not the thread is appropriate or just a copy of existing threads is not that important, the important thing is that you control it? Interesting.

Had to really think about this and narrow it down and just figured who id say who "best" with...

MK1- Liu Kang - Seem like people underestimated him imo, so when i got used to his moves and speed, id come out winner is some pretty quick matches.

MK2-Scorpion- This was a hard pick but i remember i got the most combos out of him and the mid-air teleport was a very helpful addition to his moves- Plus the "toasty" fatality is still one of my fav to this day.

MK3-Kabal- His 8-10 hit combo was pretty much second nature for me after awhile

UMK3-Scorpion- His combos was the coolest to do and watch imo. And i could never get tired of his "Black screen beatdown" fatality.

Mk4-Quan Chi- The "head Stomp" move became very handy at times and took me time to master the weapon steal move but had it down like a charm.

MKDA-Sub-zero-Surpisingly he felt like the most balanced character to me for some reason. His style set was very comfortable to memorize and learn

MKD-Scorpion- i felt he was my fail-safe character in this one becuase his moves set remained pretty unchanged imo from MKDA.

MK1-- Scorpion got me started on the series, gotta love the guy. Plus, he started 'TOASTY.' (Reptile if Non-playables count, for being the coolest guy ever. Then they made him playable and he wasn't any more. Sad.)
MK2-- MKII Kung Lao is my favourite MK Character in existance, and my best in all the MKs.
MK3-- Kung Lao/Nightwolf tie. Kung Lao gains my sentimental support, and is more of a favourite, but I'm infinitely better as Nightwolf.
UMK3-- Rain's just my favourite, and I've gotten damned good (although cheap) as him, too.
MKT-- Not countinc MKII Kung Lao (since I already gave him one game), I have fun playing as Goro, another of my unusual favourites.
I like to pretend MK4 didn't happen, although in my hallucinations of it, I play Kung Lao.
MK:DA-- Shang Tsung's new looks is awesome, and I've always been fascinated by the Snake style. Kung Lao is, as always, another favourite.
MK:D-- Nightwolf's back, baby.

I dont have any comments to them but here are mine.

Mk1:Raiden:First guy i chose then i got hooked he was the best and was my favourite till today.
Mk2:Raiden:Same Reason for Mk1.
Mk3:Sub-zero: He just seemed to be easier to play as.

MKDA:Kung Lao:He just looked cool and had awsome moves thats why he is the best in mkda.
MKD:Baraka:He looks cool and his blades are just awsome i didnt like to much in mk2 but in mkd he just got better.
MKSM:Kung Lao:Of course Kung Lao he had crazyier moves then liu khang i am Good at using him in mksm.

Mk1: Scorpion. Just the fun of the spear and thats it.
Mk2: noone really, except Shang Tsung.
Mk3: mostly used Cyrax and Sub-Zero but meh.
MK4: noone. PLayed it for three months, never toko it up again.
MKDA: Shang Tsung. Overly the best character in looks, plot, and almost the best character fighting wise.
MKD: Hotaru. Noone had anything in their plotline or their design.
MKSM: I don't care about MKSM.

MK1-Scorpion cause he had two moves that kicked ass.

MK2-Raiden cause his flying Torpedo thing took alot of damage and was easy to do. He Could also do it in the air. And he could teleport!

MK3-Subby cause of his ice clone and the ability to do it in the air. You could stop people from beatin' the shit outta you with 100 hit combos by freezing him

UMK3-Look up

MKT-Raiden cause you could just cheat to win with the flying torpedo thing

MK4-Scorpion cause his moves just got better. He could shoot fire from his head!

MKDA- Frost cause she was like a Sub-Zero from MK3. She could shoot ice on the ground that froze you, and she has a kickass fatality.

MKD-Without a doubt Sub-Zero. I kckass with Subby. He finally got his ice clone back, and had really good combos. His fatalities were the best in MK history (both of them) imo. I could easily beat the game with Subby on max diffuculty.

MKSM-Liu Kang owned this game. He had the best air combos, a bunch of moves, and alot of fatalities.

i think jade is good in mkd cos you can fight up close well and her mid range is good and at long range shes got her shield.shes my favoorite character anyway.
