The new vf evolution greatest hits release got me thinking. I think MK5 should follow suit, and when mk5 is released as a greatest hit, they should go and include another secret character, one or two more arenas, and maybe a fatality for mokap and blaze. I would spend 20 bucks on this EASY, maybe even 50 if they pumped it up enough. Hopefully, this pays off for VF4 and Midway takes notice. I think fighting games are a genre where small additions like fighters or arenas etc can really mix things up enough to warrant a second release. What would you all like to see in an "evolution" greatest hit? Let's make some noise about this.

No, not really...Let's just wait for Mortal Kombat 6 to come out. And besides, I heard about MKDA already being a part of the Greatest Hits.
To reiterate,
2 new arenas
1 secret character
4-5 new alternate costumes
fatalites for Blaze and mokap
Ability to customize fighters insofar as,
choose your fighter, choose your costume,
then mix and match your characters fighting stance.
this it a cool-ass idea. Midway should do it.

The idea in itself is not so bad but it would make me feel a bit queasy. Either because I'd have the feeling that MK:DA wasn't really a finished game (like MK3 vs UMK3), or either because I'd have the feeling that an MK:DAF would be a bit over the top (like MK3 vs MKT).

yeah right. If you are an MK fan at all, you definitly would pay 20 bucks for a copy with A few new characters, and an arena or two. and it it had a feature where you could mix and match fighting stances, there'd be no question. (There's almost no question that that wouldn't happen but...)
Adding in a secret character, and creating two new fatalities, and rendering two new arenas, would take the MK development team a MONTH. Without question, they have a few unfinished arenas leftover. I can think of the fan stage, with the spinning floor (the test video for this in the the bonus material). There's a lot of talk about a swamp stage. And that other arena with the asian styled pillars that we are shown being rendered in the mkda making of video. So there, 3 new arenas that could be put in in a week. Fatalities are no different. Anyone who programs knows, once you have this much of a program done, adding a little more similar stuff is easy as hell, you just need to change a few variables around.
Don't kid yourself about it. If you found out that an evolution was being published as the greatest hits, you'd buy it the day it came out.
After the past year, Mortal Kombat has become Midway's flagship title and they are going to put a lot of effort into this next one. Midway made a press release stating that they are going to focus on their most popular properties. Which means they will work harder on what sells good. Which means MK (2 millions copies sold and counting) will get the special treatment. Midway HAS to make MK awesome or they all lose their jobs. Even more so than normal .
An evolution would be awesome. Don't any of you kid yourselves that you'd be mad if they made one. It would not halt production time on MK6 in any noticable way. If anything, it would convince the Midway strategists to dump MORE money into MK6 making it the best game we've ever seen.
20 bucks, minimal production time, new characters, new fatalities, new arenas, all helping to make mk6 even better. What the hell is there NOT to like?

i never said i wouldnt buy it...i would. but my point is, nomatter how long it would take to do it, they should work on mk6. they dont want the backlash that mkda had. i want solid mk titles and games..not upgrades like umk3, mkt, mkg. upgrades basically ruined the series. now that its back, they need to focus on whats important...and that is the next mk game...mk6.
20 bucks? that's what a game costs in America?
Either way, it would end up too expensive here in portugal, not worth the money. If you are a true mk fan, you wouldn't a dumbass to buy an upgraded MKDA instead of just waiting for the damn sequel. However, if you were an mk FANBOY, you would sell your soul for an upgraded MKDA. EDIT: It would take the team more than a month to add all those things you said. It would only delay mk6.

That's hardly an upgrade.
One new character, 2 new arenas, some costumes.
A fatality for Blaze....and Mokap.
I agree with the others, they should focus on MK6, as opposed to trying to upgrade a game that has sold over 2 million copies anyway!

I never thought about it the way scorpio just explained it. I think you're right, an MK evolution thing would just be like ultimate mk3 or gold or whatever. And i agree with you too, that really did just clog up the series.
Nonetheless, i'd still like to hear what you guys would like to see in it IF it were to happen.
and Zentile, in north america, games cost $50 when they first come out. But after a few months, some go down to $20 and are repackaged as "Greatest hits". This was the case with the Virtua fighter Evolution game. It was basically just the re-release of virtua fighter, but with a few new characters and tweaks. It still only cost $20 though.

Great idea. This is my Evolution
- a new gory fatality to all 21 characters
- the presence of Noob Saibot, Sareena and Sektor
- the return of the old arenas, like the Pit, Goro's Lair and Kombat Tomb
- stage fatalities for some arenas
- play free with Moloch
Is it too much?

Exactly! Even if they did make it, I still wouldn't buy it, even if it was just $20.00. It would be a waste of money to buy it, I mean, if it would be anything like you said Virtual Fighter 4 Evolution is, then whats the point? You've seen everything in the regular version.
I might would rent it though.
No way, you guys are all talk. If this came out, every person who has a profile at this sight would get it the day it came out. $20 is not that much, and a few new fatalities and a few new arenas, and a few tweaks ARE worth 20 bucks.
But still, i agree with whoever it was, i think scorpio, who said this would just be like Ultimate MK3, and mkgold and shit, which all just watered down the series.
Nonetheless, i would buy it and i would enjoy it. And all of you would too, don't kid yourselves.

Well I think the idea in itself is good, but I am not sold on your list of extra's.
I bought VF4 EVO and am loving it, but the main reason for my interest was the new Quest mode they added. This gives the game a great amount of replay value for me. Just being able to name your character, change the outfit colors, and buy items such as Wallpaper, accessories for you fighter, insignias and trophy's is a blast.
Although I did like the new characters they added as well, Brad and Goh.
For MKDA, IF they were to release an EVO type of disc for their greatest hits game, these are what I would like to see.
At least 1 New character:
-Sereena is the obvious choice because the 3D model is already created (it was used for MKTE)
At least 1 Stage Fatality:
-Again for me the obvious choice would be the acid bath, I don't think it would be TO great a hassle to have a finisher where you uppercut or kick the opponent into the Acid on the sides of the stage and a skeleton would pop out in its place.
More Extra's:
-I think the greatest extra would be the inclusion of one of the classics like MK 1 or 2.
-Accessories for the fighters - Sega showed us that in VF4 adding small items like a backback or a new hat, as well as the inclusion of your own personalized name for the fighter can help you distiguish our own character into the game.
-A new tournament mode: I think the best thing would be a more of a tournament based set up, like how VF4 EVO has with their arcades. I mean Mortal Kombat IS a tournament after all.
Now all of these new items I have listed I believe could be made with a smaller more specialized team of programmers and artists (just like they used for MKTE), leaving the original MK team with MK6 to work on instead of worrying about an addition to MKDA.
Those essentially would be my most wanted if I were to shell out another 20 buks for the game, and I seriously think that if Midway did something like this they could make an even bigger seller to an already huge game.

Well DigitalNinja, I think that if they were to make an MKDA evolution type thing, I think that having 1 new character wouldn't be enough. They should add characters like Noob Saibot and Ermac as well but I think your ideas are good.

Right, having more characters would definatley be a plus for me as well, but I am trying of thinking up the most cost efficient ways midway could go about making this a reality.
The main reason I said 1 character was because alot of time and energy is spent modelling a new character and giving them a move set and motion capture data. Since Sereena was pretty much already done ( but not included in the MKDA game ) adding her wouldn't be to much of a hassle.
Although I guess they could change around some of the texture skins for the ninjas and create ermac, and noob as well. Wouldn't be TOO difficult.

Well I would like for each of the MK Ninja characters to have their own unique look and fighting styles. But yes I know what you are trying to say. But then again, if they are able to have enough time and resources, then it would be cool. But like I said before, I think we should all just wait for MK6.
