I will NEVER understand the way people hate on the MK3 autocombos. I remember the first time I saw GamePro bash them, and snidely refer to them as "Dial-Up Combos." Usually the fighting game elitist hard-on types will bash the autocombos, but I pay them no mind. The UMK3T autocombos, quite simply, kick ass. Yes, that's my argument. They are by far my favorite style of combos in any fighting game ever. And like someone else said, the game features an awesome integration of juggle-mechanics with the autocombos. The way special moves, basic common moves and specific autocombos all work together is just beautiful in execution. And if you don't like it, nuts to you. NUTS TO YOU, I say.

MK should of never gone 3-d period why change the format.MK is 2-d thats what we all grew up with it was extremly successful and made it was it is.I think mk4 was the downfall of mk and they still havent recovered and probaly never will.

MK3 was a big jump in the MK series, great playability and much faster, and then came UMK3 adding the classic characters back and with excelent combos....and for last but not least the great MK Trilogy,i played it a lot of time and was great, with all the crazy high damage combos and tons of characters to play with it was a shitload of fun for a long time....
fear the Noob....Smoke

the reason i like MK3U better than MK1 2 or 3 is because 1. the slecection of characters 2. the faster combo and gamplay speed and 3. the game is less glitchy than its counterparts.
But dont think i dont feel your pain MK 2 and 4 are rarely mentioned and i feel like theyre good enough for mention if not for a few good threads(Dont start a thread on this one based on this comment plz)

Simply put, mk3/umk3/mkt had WAYYY better gameplay them mk1 and 2. It takes a lot more skill to beat down ur opponent in those games then just sitting there and waiting for ur opponent to jump in and uppercut/roundhouse them (mk2).
candyman1014 Wrote: Why does Everyone like Mk 3,UMK3,MKT so much? To me those were the worst MK games(not counting MKM or special forces) Yes I did like the Characther and the big Selection in MK: T, But everything about Mk3,Umk3,Mk:T just wasn't very good. There Fatalities were just Terriable maybe atleast six of them were good, Hate the run button, Frienships, animalaty, babialty, brutality were terriable also, The Stages were no good except Pit 3, and I wonder why everyone like it so much? Sorry, but I really didn't like these! |

This thread a revelation:
See all this time I thought that pretty much all of the MK fan base, that their favourite was MK2, but I've learned something.

What do you mean its not mortal kombat? What do you want? a game where all the characters have the same basic attacks and three special moves? Because that's what MKDA avoided. I love mk, but I'd only play the older mk games for old times sake. There fighting system doesn't compare to mk5.
MK:DA is a decent game, but it's simply not Mortal Kombat. They took a different fighting game, called it Mortal Kombat, and put in some familiar faces. That's about it. In and of itself it's a quality game, but not MK.
My favorites are definantly MK 1 and 2. The thing that pissed me off most about MK3 was that you only had like 2 seconds to pull off a fatality. DOes anyone else remmebr that? I did like Cyrax, Sektor, and smoke, but Stryker was pretty lame. MK 2 is definantly the best in my opinion, but maybe just cuz thats what I played the most and new all the moves for.
i didnt like MK 3ULT or MKT thought that they were to kidish with the freindships and all i still remember the cheat patterns to beat the game with sector, cyborg smoke, scorpion and a few more and even the jump kick back jump kick in to beat mk 1 mk 2 was the hardest they cought on to your patterns well anyways thats my 2 cents...

I liked MKII the best too. I mean you get into the story of MK1 you win the corrupted tournament, and beat the evil, power hungry Shang Tsung, only to find out, he isn't the real enemy. Shang was just a small fish, working for a freaking tyrant emperor!

I was not a fan of MK3 because they took out the main charactors I played with: Reptile, Johnny, etc. It also seemed like the only good charactors were the robots (which I thought and still think are gay) and Sub-Zero who I've never been a fan of anyway. But I can't deny it was a hot game.
UMK3: I felt was a bitch move because people griping about things they didn't like about MK3. I was happy some of my favorites were put back in, but I didn't like how they were done.
MKT: Enough said, it was a little much. Change the game for crying out loud.

MK3 was okay but the character selection was very dull, and lame. However, the new addition with combos, and run was cool except when the CPU, or another player would always run in and throw you. Good thing I finally learned how to block throws for players, but it doesn't effect the CPU.
UMK3 was much better. It gave the fans what they wanted. All their old favorites, including the older Sub-Zero, and Human Smoke, and Noob Saibot as well. Most every fighter also had 100% damage combos which were difficult to pull off, but effective against the cheating CPU. With also huge rumors, and still one undiscovered secret to this day: Rain.
MKT brought every single MK fighter from MK1-UMK3 in one huge game. With the addition to Brutalities to figure out, plus all the new hidden moves for new fighters, it was interesting. Each platform had a different brand new fighter other than Rain too. Chameleon, and Khameleon.
Let's see why the fans like UMK3-MKt, they want more fighters to fight with.

After the huge success of mk2 then getting it on snes afterawhile i got sick of mk and lost intrest forawhile. Then i saw some videogame magazine and they where showing stills from mk3 and info about the game.I was still not really intrested until i went to the arcades and saw it.Then Boom im right back into mk started buying any magazines with mk3 info and going to the arcades alot. Then afterawhile psx came out i bought it and bought mk3 i was very pleased with it and had fun. Then sometime in 96 i went to the arcades and saw umk3 i really wasnt intrested at the time i was sick of mk again.Around that time mk had movies, cartoons, tvseries, action figures way way to much. Then many years later i was reading about mkDA and watching clips of it.It sparked my intrest into mk again and i realised about mkt and still had my n64 and bought it and played the hell out of it. I just rented mkda it was ok but nothing can beat the classics. Then finally on the pc i found out about mame and d/led umk3 and fell in love with it so i realised something i have a wierd cycle with mk bored with it and dont care or just love it to death. I just wanted to share my mk timeline with ya the events that took place.

yeah mkda's gameplay really does suck
in earlier mk games you felt like you can accomplish/do what you think you would do
in this game it's just weird and stupid (mkda i mean)

I actually really like that you said that. The controls of the older MK games were intuitive. This is a factor that is a big decider of whether I like any fighting game, the more intuitive the controls the more I like it. That is one of the reasons why I think Soul Blade is still one of the best games ever made.

I agree with what both of you said, but I do like the MK:DA gameplay. It's AWESOME, but still nothing will be as good as the classic MK formula.
P.S. Soul Blade is without a doubt one of the best games ever dreemernj. You said that right.

Speaking of MKDA whats the highest combos that they will let you get not counting corners. It just seems very limited.

well personally i hate soul blade games,
but yeah i really like games where the controls really correspond to something you'd think they would to... like a left punch or right punch or right kick in tekken, or the system in street fighter isnt bad and of course the original MK games
the button 1-2-3-4 thing in mkda seems so arbitrary and every one's basic moves are different and thats just stupid
they should have kept the original scheme but along with special moves like fireballs/freezeballs and stuff, also put more moves like in tekken where it's physical but also a special move too, i guess i cant explain it too well

Another thing I have to say is that it's just...in mkda, you cant do universal things
no roundhouse, uppercut or sweep for every character and those things really were very core to MK games

What I see MK:DA as is the MK1 of a new gameplay. MK:D will be the MK2 of MK:DA, kind of like how MK2 improved on MK1 with the gameplay. I hope you know what I mean.
Psyclobex, check out some of Konqrr's combos in the MK:DA discussion, it's good stuff.
