Why does Everyone like Mk 3,UMK3,MKT so much?
Why would you want everyone to have the same basic moves? That's what sucked about the old MK's and is something they were critisized for. Whoever you pick, all you can do is the same thing everyone else can, and three specail moves, most of which have the same properties as each other.
Like I said before, different attacks for every character is what almost every other fighting game out there has been doing for a while and is what mk is just starting to do. If mk7 was like the old mk's, noone would want to playit because there'd be no complex gameplay. The old mk games were basicly one moveset for every character with a few modifications.

They're turning MK into every other fighter, instead of keeping MK, MK. The universal basic moves was, as far as I know, only in MK. Classic 2D MK was easy to learn on the fly, but a challenge to master.

Everyone had the same basic moves. But not all the basic moves had the same hit properties. Easy example is Kano in MK1 to Cage in MK1. The difference of their uppercuts are drastic in gameplay situation. It's even more visible as each MK passed (minus MK4. though it was still there somewhat with Tanya).
People looked passed that. I'd say a good 99.9% of MK players did. There's a lot, A LOT, more than just the same basic moves and combos. But only advanced players realize it. Which is the other .1% of MK players. No offense. It's sad really. At first, people just thought Street Fighter was all about Fierce punches and kicks. Then people kept playing and kept playing until they realized it's not. MK went through the same thing. Only people didn't realize there's more to MK than just special moves, combos, and uppercuts. MK fans are lazy and don't have the same passion as SF players or any other fighting game fans.

Honestly I think you give a bit too much credit saying they are stuck on special moves, combos, and uppercuts. The majority are stuck on fatalities...

It really sucks. I try to enjoy it as much as I can still with the handful of players who are into it. I have also converted several MKII players to UMK3.

I'm an odd breed. I can't play UMK3 because my computer is all "talk to the hand". But I do promote the shit out of it. I've converted a few people to it but most are all "yeah it's ok. BUT the mk team needs to work on more balance....like street fighter". Actually they're more like "LOL MK LOOOOOOOOL *14 laughing smilies*". I'm like "free cake for all". I don't know. Is MK cursed to the point where people are just mentally incapable of learning how to play it? The MK lovers are retards and the haters are blind. The middle ground is like .000000000009% and our voice is never even heard. I wonder why I bother with MK. Then I realize it's been my whole life thus far aka I fucked up big time and can't reverse time. So I gut it out and fight the good fight because I'm too old to start something else. But I guess even Solitaire players ask themselves the same thing daily. It's especially painful in the MKD forum. You'll explain at great detail what was wrong with MKDA, a few people will understand, and 300 more newbs will be there the next day to take the place of the few converted. This is how it's went for the last year.
Expert: "MKD looks dissapointing *gives reasons*"
Retards: "you haven't played it yet"
"you're not a real Mk fan"
"leave"
"there was nothing wrong with MKDA"
Expert: "*sigh* *gives more even more factual reasons*"
Retards: "yeah"
"well i see what you're saying"
"good points. we'll see"
2 days later...
*ATTACK OF THE NEWBIES TO REPEAT THE WHOLE PROCESS AGAIN*
One of these days I'll get a computer that doesn't suck and get my Stryker up to par with the few UMK3 players out there. In the meantime, suicide hotline.

Menthol, you can get a good computer cheap off Northgate.com, you could get something that could run MK games for probably less than $500 if you don't get a new monitor.

It's true that not enough people play UMK3 anymore. I saw an arcade machine for sale in an arcade for $100. I thought it was pretty low, so I went to the desk dude and asked him why they were selling it for so low, and why they were selling it at all. He said "Because the game sucks." I said back to him, "No it doesn't, it's one of the best games ever made." After our argument, I went to go play it, and I was shocked to realize that Free Play was on, IN AN ARCADE. I was so pissed.
I don't know why people think that UMK3 is one of the worst fighting games ever made. It's so much fun. It has nearly endless things you can do in it. Also, Randper Kombat is one of the best ways to play a fighting game.

I guess every fighting game series has a time when it goes down hill, and MK3 was it for the Mortal Kombat series. To me many ppl complain about MK3 UMK3 because, honestly they are proberly not very good at it. However I would say I am pretty good at it, and I still prefer MK2.
P.S - MK3 on PS1 must be arcade perfect, I played a version in Margate once, and it played exactly like the PS version, that same jump kick tactic with Kabel worked.

I think MK3 was a down hill turn in that the looky lous stopped focusing on it, it lost all the hype of blood and fatalities, and fell the way of any great fighter that loses recognition because it loses mindless following.
At the same time, MK3 started the uphill trend in that it was a really good, fast fighting game. It was a better fighting game then MK2 or MK1, even if it lacked the overall graphical appeal of MK2. UMK3 took it to a very good level, where it still reigns as the best MK game (until they get one of the 3D ones right I guess).
And MK3 for PS1 was extremely different from the arcade.
