Mk1 Rayden, Mk1 Kano, Mk2 Jax and Mk2 Kung Lao were all played by actors who were still working with the MK team when MKT came out I think.
I don't know if it was legal stuff or just some kind of courtesy or they just planned it like that from the beginning stages of developing MKT to ensure that if they needed new frames they could make them.

Smoke's walking speed is twice as fast as Scorpion's, his pop up combo allows him to get damage Scorpion cannot, his sweep beats Scorpion's if they start at the exact same time, as does Smoke's knee lift, beating out Scorpion's HP and HK auto combo starter, and Smoke's airthrow beat's Scorpion's.
If you connect a jump punch starter on any say jumping over and crossing up a sweep, the most damage you can get with Scorpion is 33%, no matter where you are, corner or mid screen. With Smoke you can get 60% mid screen, and up to an easy 70% in the corner, on anyone. On top of that, with some good timing, Smoke can relaunch infinite every character, even the female ninjas, Sindel, and Stryker, whom seem to be invulnerable to it from anyone else. Also I think Smoke has quicker recovery after his knee than Scorpion, allowing him to keep running in faster. They might be subtle differences over all, but so many of them make Smoke far far superior.
Smoke's pressure is a lot higher than Scorpion's and that's what matters.

About Me
"Is it so important that you win one last argument with him?" "No, it is not, but it is true that I will miss the arguments; they were, finally, all that we had."

Well, in any event, he's still an upgraded gray pallate swap of Scorpion. It would be nice to see him break out on his own and gain his own unique powers and fatalities. (For more on this argument, check out my No more Clone Smoke thread on the Deception board)

Definately, I remember how he looked when I first saw him in MK2 and from then on I really thought of him as the original and I believe he needs to be brought back in an entirely unique way.
