OK, cyrax is not my favorite character but i dont hate him.But i do hate the fact that alot of people are making jokes about him because he is black. Honestly, who cares!?Cyrax doesn't deserve this,he is a cool character and i admit, i always thought he was chineese for being in the lin kuei and i did receive a bit of a shock when i saw his alternate outfit in DA, but i didn't instantly hate him and start saying,OMG HE"S SO BLACK HE LIKE NOOBS BROTHER!!OMG LOL!!,people think this is funny, im white and i don't think African Americans, or anyone of a race should receive criticism like this, i just think it's plain wrong.

From what I've heard, Sambo is an ethnic slur against black people. But it's also the name of a restaurant chain, and a style of martial arts invented in the Soviet Union (and used by Cyrax, at least in MKDA).

Well, I don't make fun of him, but it is odd to see a black member of a Chinese ninja clan. He doesn't fit in very well. But then again we don't know if Sub-Zero is Chinese either.

maybe in your forums ppl make fun of him with thos reasons... but i don't make fun of him and neither does anyone here that i've heard of... i think he's cooler this way... as black... it makes MK more diverse

This guy must be from the Midway Boards,ive seen people making fun of Cyrax a lot over there,and theres lots of racist people there too.

Damn, Cyrax having Sambo is racist...and for your information Sambo was a racist story about a little black boy and the restaurant was named after that...which is why it doesn't exist anymore... and yeah...I know of the Sambo martial arts too...but this was intentionally racist for the sense of humor and that is wrong

Actually, there still is a Sambo restaurant. And it was named after it's creators, Sam something or other and Whatshisname Bohnett.
Anyways, I never heard the term Sambo used as a slur until recently. Frankly, I'm not exactly sure they gave Cyrax sambo because he was black. If they gave Jax sambo, then I'd agree with it being racist, because Jax was a walking Stereotype in MKDA. But Cyrax is always seen in his lemony yellow BMX gear. I don't exactly think that giving a military style to a military robot necessarily was a racist decision.

Actually, until I've seen this thread, I never made the connection between him using Sambo and the racial slur on blacks. Strange, because I knew about the slur, and I think Sambo's an awesome style for him...you'd think I would've seen that. confused

I was refering to the restaurant chain Sambo that was closed many years ago...if a new restaurant called Sambo still exists it is not the same one and I've never heard of it

cyrax being black and him have a sambo style is not racist at all.
and the slur your all refering to is little black sambo who cyrax looks nothing like.

I've never heard anyone making fun of Cyrax because he's black. It is weird though that a black guy is part of a chinese ninja clan. I always figured Cyrax was chinese.

Sub-Zero himself is supposed to be half-American, half-Chinese. It's not inconceivable that Cyrax might have a similar background.
