She won the fake tournament because I guess when she won she had to go to some place for winners but it was a trap and they took her soul.
Li Mei- soul taken because she won so that proves she is strong
Lui Kang- Soul taken because he was the storngest in previous tournaments

She will no doubt be an important player, she's now probably a new pupil to Bo Rai Cho.
As for the plot holes and contradictions, well, welcome to MK. Good storyline ideas along with incredibly retarded storyline ideas implemented in odd ways is the best way to make plot holes and MK has been full of them for a while now.

Just remember not every ending happens in reality in Mortal Kombat, so jsut because she won the tournament in her ending for DA doesnt mean she did.
It seems like Quan Chi and Shang Tsung told her that by beating certain people she would win the tournament and her people would be freed from their enslavement. But this wasnt the real tournament, and they actually only used her to get rid of their enemies and once they saw that she was strong, stole her sole and put it into an undead warrior so that she could serve them forever.

It doesn't really contradict anything. In Deadly Alliance, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung held a tournament to lure in strong souls for the Dragon King's army. Li Mei entered and won, but that doesn't mean the other characters like Kung Lao, Sonya, Johnny Cage, or Kitana were involved or that she fought Quan Chi or Shang Tsung.
Li Mei won the tournament, but Quan Chi won Deadly Allaince.

Agreed.
In MKDA, it seems that the only character who participated in a some tournament was Li Mei (there is thus no true or fake tournament, only, none of the characters of the game participates in it, except Li mei, thus)
According to me, things took place in this order:
-the tournament takes place
-Li Mei gains it
-her soul is transferred in a mummified soldier
- and only then, the chosen warriors arrive to face the DA...
In fact, it seems that the intrigue of the game don't turn any more around a tournament, but Boon didn't want to change the title of the game because of this detail...
