Costumes are very important.

If we got the character models recycled from MKA, then I wouldn't even consider buying this game, no matter how good the gameplay is.

As long as they don't recycle costumes, then they don't bother me.

Obviousely the gameplay is the most important thing, but not having alternative costumes is ridiculous.

MK 1 and 2 never had alt. costumes so i dont know why people are complaining. also if you want a new costume so bad, have you ever heard of something called DLC?

1) A lot has changed in regards to technology and memory storage. Mileena and Kitana were palette swaps literally because they were running out of system memory and wanted another character. Alternate costumes would not have even been a possibility in the early MK games.

2) Nope. Never heard of DLC.

Who gives a damn if classic MK games didn't have alternates. Stop using that lame ass excuse. While gameplay IS terribly important, I just still see no reason why there aren't alternates. What if the characters were butt naked during the entire game, sporting aroused nipples and boners? would it still be about the gameplay then? Swapping colors on the classic MK was necessary because of genesis memory, this is the PS3. There is no excuse for this lack of content that has played a factor in the last 3 MK titles, and just about every other fighter out.

I have the answer to that.... MK's favorite excuse....Time.


They have to get approval by DC for each character they make and making alternate costumes would consume more time.

Gameplay looks good so I'm not worried much about it.

Since gameplay is secure, I am now focusing on Costumes. Playing as the same thing over and over seems pretty boring after a while, especially if you don't like a character's primary.

I really don't care about alternate costumes. So far all of the revealed characters look great and that is fine with me.

Game play is the most important aspect of the game. I'm glad there will be patches available for download. Kudos to you and MKO for getting the question asked! Now we can hold them to it, hehe.

May I politely ask, what’s the point of this thread besides trying to excuse the lack of creative artistic potential by assuming and supposing game play was the reason why alternates got sacked?

How many times have we already heard (since the very beginning and past) that gameplay is always their main concern? Do you honestly buy that alternates out will make any difference?

I respect the fact that you care about gameplay above anything else, I care about it so I post “here” to make that clear, but I also know that there are other essential elements that make a game great in quality and beautiful in core, and believe it or not, even if alternates don’t even alter gameplay, they are fun and part of the game.

Your mission with this thread will fail badly, because all I see is an attempt to make people feel “content” and “not to care” about the lack of alternates and who knows what other artistic beauties of the game...using "gameplay" as an excuse.

You really have to learn to respect the fact that other people, plenty of more people actually, just don’t agree with you and see things from a different perspective, and that doesn’t mean they don’t care about gameplay ...it means they care about the entire game.

Just in case you get it wrong, I’ll say it again: Just because they don’t consider things trivial, like you do, doesn’t mean they don’t care about gameplay...that’s what you always imply, and that’s why you always get into arguments with everyone.

No alternates sucks mkf. They wont ruin the game, but you can clearly see how people are viewing it with that announcement...specially because of the reasons behind the statement of Ed...it was so typical.

The point is, people will care, they have the right to care and complain, and people caring doesnt make them not care about gameplay, and just because you think its trivial, it doesnt mean it is.

JUST SHARING MY OPINION MKF! I mean no rudeness or atatcks to you...but I think you should learn to word out your mind betterm because it feels like you constantly attack people for "caring about X thing you dont" about MK....and thats not fair from you, at all. You should learn to live with the fact that people will care for this things Mkf, that this kind of things make people upset (very rightfully), and that whether you like it or not, they are important. You dont care, fine, but dont force the world to think like you, because whatever way you try it, it just wont work. Specially with this kind of stuff....gameplay is important, but its not because of gameplay we arent getting the alts. Im super happy with the amazing costumes they have given us, most are incredible (my fave has never looked better! ) but no alts sucks, and badly. Period.

Now new costumes in a new game I think is a must. But do we really need more than one? No. POST. Gameplay is what matters most.

let me start by saying i honestly don't care that alts aren't in. personally i hardly ever use them anyway with the exception of jade in MKD/MKA.

however alts are pretty much a staple in the fighting game franchise. ALL other fighting games have alternate looks for their characters and while it doesn't have any effect on the gameplay it can turn a lot of people off.

i'm more upset that someone doesn't want to make the alts. it just seems EXTRA SUPER LAZY.
i mean...the people that design the characters looks don't work on the gameplay features, so it's not like the gameplay would suffer if they DID make alts.

also for people like me whose replay value for a fighting game lays more with unlocking all the content and less with actually fighting other players i could get bored with this game very easily.
the only reason i played MKA as long as i did was because i was trying to unlock all the alts even though i wasn't planning on using them. it gives you a goal and makes the game more enjoyable. so unless the development team has decided to fix the single player experince (choose your destiny, more than four different types of character ladders, survival mode, team battle mode, a VS mode where you can play against the AI, etc) people might find themselves bored with this game fairly quickly.

now i know that you could just say that there is online play but the fact of the matter is that not everyone has access to online play. and the way it's described by some of you most of the people that play online are annoying and shitty anyway.

but anyway back to alts, for some people here it'd be like buying a 60 dollar dvd with no extras. just two hours of enjoyment before it starts to collect dust.

exactly! I for one have no desire to play this online. And I'm sure there are others who aren't going to be able too or don't want too. So for us, replay value is down because that one more thing not in the game that could add to the playing experience for us offline gamers. After I beat the game, is there anything that is going to make me wanna pick up the controller and play again? There are no alternates to choose from, wack! So there had better be some kick ass content to unlock. And I'm talking content we can use in game. None of the bullshit production stills and pics of the MK team acting crazy in the studio or whatever.

This is the truth. I have online but I really don't feel like dealing with little kids who are going to pick this game up. It'll be Halo 3 all over again. So for me it's a matter of "Will I give two shits after beating it?" and "Do I really want to have to deal with whining little bitches?"

Give us more content dammit. There's no excuse not to except "DC wouldn't let us", which is really your own fucking fault for going through with the idea.
