I was one of those turned off by this latest MK installment from the start. I said that I would not purchase the game (still have not rented it either) because I was not interested in DC comics. I also was a little disappointed in the story, since it does nothing to really advance the series and save the franchise. I never liked the Street fighter vs. Marvel games either.... I do not like mixing different fighting games together.
I've watched videos of the game, and seen the commercials, and I still am not interested. I wonder who else stood by their word when they said they would probably sit this one out.
Post here if you are like me. Again.... don't flame me for having an opinion. At least I am sticking to my guns. Still holding out for the aftermath of MKA.

er... no.
Although I rarely made my opinion known to the public, I had planned on sitting this one out. However, with Midway's current financial situation, and the future of MK hanging in the balance, I feel that I need to buy this game, just in case it is the end of Midway as we know it.

when I knew about this game, I was like WTF? like everybody, but once I watched more videos, the gameplay, fighting mechanics, I was excited, yeah, everybody complained about the fatalities, honestly, I don't give a f*ch abouth them, they are the more realistic fatalities since MK1 or MK2, that's why I love them, and yeah, I love the game, it's awesome

and on that note, I also completely stood by my word and purchased it, without a single regret, outside of Kano's ball fatality. Good lord that one is stupid.
I think it's fairly universally accepted that the gameplay is superior or at least as good as the last 4 games.

I never believed that game, since the beginning
This thing will never enter in my home. I simply hate it
I see all the game on you tube and it was enough.

From what I saw on youtube, I can understand your point about the gameplay. I'm still holding out though for SF4 and Tekken 6. It's sad because I used to prefer MK over all of them.

It's marvel vs capcom. You also don't have to like DC universe to like this game. Take it from me, This game is pretty good with the T ratings except for SOME fatalities. The game also supports great graphics and good gameplay, so, dude, you never really know if you like it or not unless you at least rent it.

I'd rather watch Midway burn to the ground entirely than shell out even $10 for a brand-new copy of MK vs. DC. I refuse to support this travesty under any circumstances whatsoever.
R.I.P., MK.

I've stood by my word. I've emphasized heavily that I don't want this game so nobody screws up and gets it for me.

I said I never was interested in it, which is different. Just like pro wrestling... I used to love it in the 80's and 90's, but I do not like the product that they have put out in the past 3-4 years. This game is the exact same way. I've seen what it offers, and am no way interested in it. I still come here though because I support MK and hopefully future projects.

I couldn't agree more about the story. I did get the game but after playin the story mode and seein some of the endings (especially Sub-Zero's), the story does not progress at all after Armageddon. I'm still disapointed that Midway decided to mimic an idea used by Capcom.
i bought it. although i don't think it should've been 60 bucks
at first i was really turned off by this game. not because of DC because i thought that was pretty all right. i really wasn't going to buy it because we were only getting 11 MK characters and i thought the fighting system would still be shit.
and while it's still probably worse than the rest of the fighting games it plays way better than the last three MK games. i prefer this one too MKG too so i'd say the last four games.

Absolutely despised the idea from the started, but made sure to never state I wouldn't buy the game due to the mere fact that I bought MKA after all the disappoints. To this very day, whenever I think about all the hopes for MK8, all the potential of MK8, all the discussions of MK8's impending greatness, I little bit of me dies
But hey, what can I do... the moment I saw Sonya's first screenshot I knew my weak ass would buy it regardless.

Haha. At least you admit it. That is how I was with MKA. I bought it about 3 months after it was released because I couldn't resist, but I do not have that urge for this one. The only DC comic I ever showed any interest in was Batman, and 1 character isn't enough to make me interested in a game.

I said from the beginning I wasn't going to buy this game, but not because I was against the idea. The reason I held out was because Midway led me to believe I was getting MK8 for four nerve-tingling months. Telling me in APRIL that MK8 wasn't going to be in my home in this year was a slap in the face. If Midway had just announced the game in January like every other next-gen MK, I would have been willing to say, "hey, whatever," but no, they had to cock-tease me.
That said, my job allows me to check out games for up to four days at no charge, so I have played the game and I'm satisfied with the gameplay. It's not perfect, but still very enjoyable. The story mode had some good moments as well.
Speaking of which, I do retract my criticisms regarding the character roster. After playing story mode, I now see that leaving out Jax would have created plot issues considering how much time is spent with the special forces. I somewhat feel the same with Kano now; it was probably best to package the three together.
Still some complaints. They should have used the story's time vagueness to include characters in their original forms (non-deformed Kabal, human Smoke). And I still can't believe Baraka made it in over Reptile, especially now that I've played the story mode to see Baraka stick his thumb up his ass and do virtually nothing.

I am not big on the stories to push a good fighting engine, but for some reason I think Jax would be far more accepted as a villain and alot more interesting.
Maybe it's the way that the franchise has made him seem the weaker of the two in personality (Sonya.)

Jax definitely needs something drastic. And ya know, he had some momentum early on with the bionic development. MK3 was his second installment and he was already evolving. Then, he kind did the same thing repetitively for three more games.
I think the reason why Sonya overshadows him so heavily is because she has a stronger tie to the main protagonists (Raiden, Liu Kang) and even to the special forces villains. It's always Sonya tracking Kano with Jax back at headquarters. There were a lot of missed opportunities, too. When Cyrax and Kenshi joined Special Forces, the creators could have done some interesting story events with Jax, but eh, nothing came of it.

I can totally see him going evil and being a total badass, making him far more interesting, and have Sonya go after him, etc.
I stood by my word and got it. To me, its one of the best 3D MK games thus far, as far as the fighting engine goes. Yeah, the fact that they toned down the fatalities disappointed me a bit. And I'm completely kool with more realistic fatalities, but there just isnt enough detailed violence or gore in the game that could have looked really kool on the new systems. Regardless of the fact that the fatalities lack to a certain extent, I love the game, and will never regret buying it.
