I did.

Criticized it, Waited to Judge it, Played it, Judged it as a Rental.

I do welcome something that they proved me wrong on though, and it's that gameplay was actually a selling point for a MK game. Doesn't mean gameplay was terrific by any means, but it was fun to play at it's core and I appreciated that.

They got alot right with this game, but I still feel as though this game was not developed with "me" as a part of the target audience.

Even though I thought the idea was weird when I saw the first trailer, I was still looking forward to the game. I've always planned on buying and I'm not disappointed at all

Since the first time I heard about the DC crap I immediately said that I wont buy it. And I didnt and I wont in the future. I held it in my hands and thought about a lend from my local video store but I decided to go with Mirrors Edge instead.

I kepp waiting for the next REAL MK

Can't play it. Don't have a PS3 or 360. So there's no reason for me to buy it. I did watch all the story mode segments on YouTube and liked (most) of what I saw. It's cheesey as hell, but they played it straight and made it work.

And yeah- Baraka? Complete waste of a character.

I was one of those turned off by this latest MK installment from the start. I said that I would not purchase the game (still have not rented it either) because I was not interested in DC comics. I also was a little disappointed in the story, since it does nothing to really advance the series and save the franchise. I never liked the Street fighter vs. Marvel games either.... I do not like mixing different fighting games together.

I've watched videos of the game, and seen the commercials, and I still am not interested. I wonder who else stood by their word when they said they would probably sit this one out.

Post here if you are like me. Again.... don't flame me for having an opinion. At least I am sticking to my guns. Still holding out for the aftermath of MKA.

Fuck yea I kept my word. I'll never buy this piece of shit.

I don't mind the crossover idea or the lack of blood. Seriously, the toned-down fatalities matter little to me. I was still going to get it, until I saw the game play was more 2D. I started to look closer at it, and when the "Rage" thing was announced, it reminded me of the hated "Aggressor" from MKT, that I ALWAYS turned off, first thing. That made me dislike it more. The fatality was the final roster. I said, then, after seeing several big names (like my favorite character) left out that I would vote with my wallet--that wouldn't purchase it, and would return it if I received it as a gift.

I've kept my word.

I'll admit, though, that there's still a chance I'll break that oath, but it is a very slim one. The only thing that would change my mind would be the addition of DLC characters that I like and an expanded story mode. Otherwise, I'm not only sitting this one out, I'm telling everyone I know why they should, as well.

GOOD LUCK

It's not as bad as most of you make it out to be ...

it ain't worth renting because you have to actually put a lot of effort into the combos and they way they are done

MK is always going to be trash ... you accept that fact and play along or keep hoping the next MK is gonna be flawless

Well, I still haven't purchased the game. Never will. I played it at
friends house and I have come to the personal conclusion that
it sucks majorly and is not worth buying, renting, perhaps. The
severe lack of content in this game turns me off in the worst way.
And for offline gamers, that is important. This gets a 3 out of 10.
If the price drops to half off, that is the only way I will pick it up.

Terrible idea, but the game is great. Good story. It made sense, everything in the MK story mode tied in with the DC story mode, and vice versa. Game play was very fun, and the roster was great.

Terrible idea, great execution.

Sucks majorly? What part of the gameplay do they need to work on?

Sucks majorly may have been too harsh a term. Disappointing
is the more appropriate word. The game just simply does not
live up to the expectations I have when it comes to MK. Story
mode was cool, but other than that there is nothing to hold my
attention or make me want to pick up the controller and play more.
Gameplay while improved, was not perfect and not up to par with
what I consider next gen animation. I'm waiting on a real MK 8.

Fair enough.

I just hope they keep this trend of concentrating on gameplay instead of throwing puzzle/chess/cart racing/600 koffin crap in.

Definately.... Ironic though, the only things I liked about Deception were the introduction of Death Traps and Puzzle.... The puzzle game was probably better executed than the game itself.

Am I the only one who feels here that Ed Boon and Co struck gold in the early 90's, but are a shell of their former selves? This happens quite often in all aspects of life (i.e. sports coaches, directors, one hit wonder musicians).....

Mk was a great idea and innovative, but the rest of the fighting game world caught on, and surpassed MK..... Mortal Kombat is way behind the curve imo.

Well... on the other hand I don't want yet another Soul Calibur/Tekken/Virtua Fighter fighting engine shoe-horned into the MK universe.

That's the difficult part... I agree with you that MK should not become a Tekken/Virtua Fighter/ Soul Calibur..... I guess we can look at Street Fighter as an example.... When was Street Fighter the most popular??? The SF2 series and all the ports. Street Fighter went 3D to catch up with the rest of the fighting world and added some other odd additions in order to upgrade the series..... problem is that it did not work for most hardcore fans.

The MK fans are the same way. Use the "if it ain't broke, then don't fix it" philosophy. Mortal Kombat must stick to its roots to be a success. What made MK so great in the first place you ask? The story was compelling, characters were unique, the fighting was simple yet fun, fatalities.....

1.)One of the biggest problems with DA and Deception IMO was the introduction of new, yet boring characters. You do not have to introduce 7 or 8 new characters each time... focus on 2-3 new characters so they can be featured, not lost in the shuffle...AND do not make them unlockables either..... in Deception you could have played story for hours and weeks before unlocking some of the new characters.

2). Use what brought ya to the dance... Atgain, character development, a compelling story, fatalities. I would also include death traps, uppercuts, and round house kicks here. Oh, and another point.... the characters should look more like- like (I will commend MK vs. DC here because they look better) than cartoonish figures seen in DA and Deception. Scorpion's arms should not be bigger than his head folks.

3.) A true blocking and reverse system... not 3 combo breakers. If you are going to include dial up combos, then give the opponent the opportunity to block the combo.... perhaps the first 3 hits are guaranteed, but then the remainder can be blocked with the correct sequence. I really would have liked DA's fighting engine if this type of blocking system was in tact.... this way, everyone would be more likely to use some of the lesser combos and strikes since the opponent would have a fair chance to block the sequence. Everyone knows that all you really had to do (including the computer AI) to win in DA was to wait for an opening, and unleash the #1 or #2 combo for a character.... Why use a 3 or 4 hit combo when you could do 25% more damage with a 7-9 hit combo? See where I'm headed here? I hate to use Tekken as an example again, but the beauty of the game is that you must rely on strategy more than combo knowledge to win against a good or great player. A good or great player can block the cheap 10 hit combos, so you'll have to rely on 1 or 2 hit moves instead.I

I think these three sections are a start to bring MK back into the limelight.
