DCs effect of positive responses

I think you're not getting what I'm saying. I didn't say the Finishers in MKvsDC are good. Just that a T rated MK game can be done.
The finishers, at least most of them, in MKvsDC suck ass. But it's not the T ratings fault. It's because Midway lacks any imagination and can't make decent Finishers without mutilating someone.
Watch some Marvel Nemesis Finishers. They have some good finishers, even though it's T rated.

It doesn't take hard thinking to say "oh well lets have her tie the guy up and swing him around a few times and BAM! ground slam." or "well we used this fatality before, let's recycle it!" A four year old could have come up with these finishers.

I partially agree with you. It's not so much the T-rating fault. I saw those nemesis finishers on youtube (I don't own that game) and most of them are pretty decent and enjoyable.
But the MK team doesn't lack imagination. They actually have been very well on that. It's just their execution on it. They allways do "just enough". They never go all the way. For example Shang Tsung fatality. The soul sucking idea is very good, but how it looks, it's just so fake, so stiff, so lifeless.
And I don't want to hear anyone commenting that I have to put more imagination of myself into it. No I don't! Games are made so I don't need to use my imagination anymore. If I want to imagine something, I'll go read a book.
The concept art of their backgrounds looked great, but if you look at the game, they look pretty empty. I also read on this forum that they took away some stuff out of the graveyard, while in the promoted trailers the stage was pretty "rich" in objects.
But I still hate the T-rating. DC asked MK to work together, not the other way around. So DC should have known MK was M-rated with gore. So they should have gone with MK rules or not go to MK to work together.
The next MK game better be a real MK game, with the gore, atmosphere and the nostalgic endings. And a real next-gen game. More polyogons don't mean next-gen material. Next-gen to me is more emotion and more feeling (whether it be fear, laughter, ...)
But MK is not that much at fault. Gaming in general begins to suck. Just because it went to the general public. In the past, they wanted to please the gamers. Nowadays, they want to please the big crowd. The general public just wants to be entertained. Gamers want to game.
By far, I think this is the best MK game yet! I don't think the DC characters affects the game in a negative way at all. Actually some of them have some great moves (example: The Flash) vs some of MK personalities. It's the story line which is kind of cheezy for both the MK and DC side, plus waiting for DLC whenever that takes place. Yes, the finishers could have been much better even with the "T" rating, but all in all the MK game team are traveling back in the right direction by making it 2D again. Also, they should keep the game engine that they're using and just enhance it.

Indeed, they are travelling back in the right direction. I have more issues with the fact that they already could have been on the right direction, but go slowly on purpose.
In interviews I notice that Ed Boon has a real commercial approach. Instead of making a game real great, he will rather come up with stuff that in the beginning seem interesting, but after a while leave you dissappointed.
I think Ed Boon should watch how Capcom is handling "back to the roots". They are doing a perfect job with Street Fighter IV and I have never been a real Street Fighter fan. Capcom is going for quality and nostalgic, which is what MK needs to do.
Over here, DC is not know that much like in the USA. Sure we know Superman, Batman,... but we don't know DC.
They still managed some interesting stuff in this game. I like some moves they use for The Flash. But it kinda reminds me of Kabal and I rather have Kabal.
DLC is something that 's going to ruin game industrie. First paying 60 to 70 € for a game which is half finished because they want to use the rest for DLC to ask like 5 € for each character. Which seems low but in the end makes your wallet empty like hell. DLC to me is an excuse to offer a half game for the same price as a full game.
Not to mention everybody is going to need internet connection. Not everyone can afford a monthly fee for internet.
I've only spent three hours with the game so far but here's what I can say. And to clarify, I own all the previous games.
The roster is fun. Some fighters better than others.
Everyone has a lot of special moves and the game depends much more on them then on string combos, giving it more of an old school feel.
The close combat and free fall are kinda fun but i find it stupid during free fall that after trading blows, only one fighter takes damage.
The fighters are a little stiff; this isn't Tekken.
The fatalities are ok. Just the fact that you pull them off after a fight is a reward. Not having them be gory is a nice change of pace. My favorite is probably The Flash's. Besides, it'll make people appreciate the next game even more if the blood does return.
The challenge is challenging and I wish they would have had demonstrations of the combos.
In the end, the game is fun, bottom line. Blood could have made it better. More unlockable content would have made it better but the game is different, it stands out from the previous three and is enjoyable.
For those who doubt, and with all the mixed reviews, how can you not, rent it first and see for yourself.

Dont know about that. There was a lot of talk about MK8 being a clean slate to work from. Whether that would mean an all new roster of characters or the return of the MK All Stars is up to you to decide.
Also how the most brown and grey game ever made was the inspiration for the new game.
Ultimately I'm not sure what DC's effect on the game has done for the series. Its essentially a risk free title that was going to make a profit unlike what MK8 might have been.
The game's storyline is clearly not canon and any possible sequels will be set in this MK and DC universes and wont effect future MK titles.
It'll be interesting if this game has staved off Midway's demise and if they are going to announce a 100% MK title with all the gore etc. one year followed by a MK Vs DCU2 and keep the two series going.

I've been hearing a lot of really positive feedback on the game.
What I wanna know is would the game have gotten better feedback if it didn't feature the DCU characters and was rated M for mature?

I liked the game. Like all post MK3 games, MK vs DC is good but not great.
That said, no, I think it would have gotten worse feedback without the DC characters... even with added gore.
The gameplay just doesn't feel next-gen worthy.
But the DC characters make this game feel more fun. Gimmicky, but in a good way. A game you can sit down and go a few rounds with your friends in. Have some laughs. Live out the dreams of the litle kids inside of us. I think it creates that feeling for most people, save the really uptight MK fans who opposed this from day one.
Theres NOTHING like having Kano kick the crap outta Catwoman.

The same can be said about SC4 and SF4. I own SC4 and I havent seen anything about SF4 that screams next gen aside from the graphics.

Can't speak for SF4 but SC4 felt considerably more next-gen than MKvsDC. A robust create a char system, multiple single player modes, amazing graphics. Just looked really good and had a lot of extra content.
But i'll agree, SF4, SC4, and MKvsDC really don't feel as if they've gone to the next level. Although I had lots of fun playing MKvsDC and SC4, and thats what really matters.

In our country they are reinforcing an old law which says games may not be available for renting.
And demo's aren't coming out either.
So we are pretty much obligated to buy.
I'm still with mixed feelings. It is MK and it is kinda great. But I don't like the dc part that much. And the toning down of the fatalities.
Btw... hope they bring back Mercy's... That's something friendly to do in a fight :).

The glorified costume designer was SC4 biggest let down for me, I expected to be able to create my character from the ground up in the same vain as a smackdown or even a MKA (as laughably broken as that game is,) but Namco basically told me to eat a dick.
