I actually really enjoyed Deception. While it isn't the best MK game out there, it still had some very good qualities. I really enjoyed the Konquest mode(very well done in my opinion), and the puzzle/chess kombat were fun little things to do if you were ever bored of just fighting.
One of the bad things about this game in my opinion was the characters. Uggh. Out of the 8 new characters that were introduced in this game, I only liked two, and the other six I absolutely despise even to this day. I also thought that the selection of old characters that they chose to bring back was a little odd, but they did bring back some of my old favorites so I guess I can't complain.

damn, right on! This guy knows my feelings :)
Trilogy will still remain my favourite, but I have to pick Deception as second favourite. Not much else to say since this fellow already spoken the way I see it to. QueenSindel(TheBitch) Posted: 06/04/2007 01:32 AM absolutely right!

Strange, I suddenly feel very compelled to disagree. Hm, funny that.
Apart from Konquest (which was beautiful) MKD was a stupendously boring game. Im not a very hard-core game player but I just think the atmosphere didnt grab you, the newly returned characters weren't that fun to play as (except baraka), the storyline was uninspired, and after I unlocked everything there was no incentive to keep playing (as I found playing as 95% of the characters frustrating and fruitless).
Even if I don't play MK:DA much anymore it still has ten times more artistic merit than MKD. The story was well-planned, it breathed new life into every character, and game-play-wise every character had a unique feel to him or her (except for probably Hsu Hao). It was, without a doubt, the most genuine MK game since probably MK2.
There's only one word to describe MKD: half-assed.

Deception SUCKED!
The roaster sucked, the gameplay sucked(Bad animations, slower gameplay),The graphics where cheap,The combos where too small,A LOT of glitches,The worst MK!
The best MK is Deadly alliance!
Lightning fast gameplay,WONDERFUL animations,Great roaster,Great music,Not broken,Balanced gameplay,cool music.

Lightning fast gameplay?? Please, stop making me laugh. The gameplay was really slow compared to the 2D series, en I really think MKD had faster gameplay. The animations were OK but not wonderful as you say.
MKDA was just as broken as MKD was, do I need to remind anyone of the horrible reversals in the game? Also, the gameplay wasn't balanced at all.
You are right however if it comes to the music and the roster

I've played deception long enough to know what i say.
I can give you an idea of how horrible the gameplay is:
First of all,Deception is rock paper scisors. That means that if you attack your opponent and he blocks, you can't block immediately because of the lag time of each attack. You can hardly block because the block button seems to don't work all the time.Sometimes, after i attack,i press the block button but the character doen't react so i need to press it again and sometimes, the character stops to block by himself.
In deadly alliance, when you press the block button, the character reacts immediately.
And when you attack in deadly alliance, theres no lagging time. That means that when you attack, you can quickly do another attack without the risk of being attacked.
And Deadly alliance was playable and there was not stupid combo breakers.
I loved the reversals and the impale move. And there was not fuckin noob death traps. And Deadly alliance was sooo more balanced.Just ask nukesgoboom(The ultimate MK master) he will answer the same thing.
Also,in deadly alliance, the graphics where smoother.
So lets resume:
Deception
Good points: -Konquest mode
-Fatalities and hara-kiris
-Mini games(even if i hate them)
-The story
Bad points: -Gameplay(Horrible)
-Graphics
-Music(except the slaughterhouse music)
-Animations
-The roaster(Full of usless characters)
-The videos in the kontent are not funny
Deadly alliance
Good points: -Gameplay(Much quicker than the deception)
-Animations(Very smooth)
-Roaster
-Music
-Test your might and test your sight
-Good level design
- impale move,power ups,reversals
-Konquest mode
-Better endings
Bad points: -Some cheap character desing(Hsu hao looks like a gay)
-Some fatalities are very cheap
-The voice acting is ugly(Hiiiiiy,alehoop,ayaaaaah!!)
I've played these two games long enough to know what i say.The Deadly alliance gameplay is balanced(More responsive controls, smoother, playable,The revolution of MK).

To me Deception was the best, you learn the world of mortal kombat trough this game! you see all characters live in a 3D enviroment! at day and night! you make quests for them you speak to ppl, and you had some hell amazing combos wich we're LOST in armageddon in exchange of more characters, why just no keeping deception with all MKA characters, but come on! don't remove us our beloved combos !

I'd say MKD is the best. Though MKDA had a better fighting system, despite the fact that some character movements were quite cubersome. Anyway MKD had one of the best Fatalities. It also had a great story. In terms of characters both were quite good but if Kung Lao was in MKD I'd be perfect for me.

well i just LOVE the konquest mode,i cant stop playing it....i feel there are more things to it then we know...
I'll be honest, I like the PS2 MK trilogy consisting of MKDA, MKD, and MKA. I like all three.
However, when we're talking about which MK game outta those three was the best, it was MKDA. It brought back all the qualities of the classc 2d MK's, such as test your might, and the classic characters from both MK1 and 2.
There was just a certain feel that MKDA gave off that I didn't get from MKD. I do think MKD was great, but I had much more of a better time unlocking and fighting in MKDA. I mean, MKDA was just jam packed with stuff and the tone was serious again, the fatalities were great (while some here and there were stupid), and the story was fresh.
I used to love unlocking stuff in MKDA's krypt and it felt really rewarding. Anyway, sorry for the long post.

I'll be honest too,
I've had deception as a Christmas gift, oh my lord I love this game! the combos, the fact that you explore the world or mortal kombat by yourself! the night / day switching, the event that happends at certain hours. The graphics we're fun, so was the story, it was an epic game for new comers to learn the world of MK, I wasnt a new comer :P meh, but I understood and learned alot troughtout this game =P

MKD was definitely better than MKDA and MKA. It comes third place to MK2 and MK4 in my honest opinion.

deception is the best for me. but i'm glad someone mentioned onaga and noob-smoke. as far as gameplay goes, not story or bios, noob smoke and onaga are the worst bosses in mk history.
noob smoke do special moves 99.99% of the time. first he'll do a smokeycut, then stink cloud, then we live, followed by dark shadows, succeeded by another smokeycut which is followed by a kick from above. it is very cheap. it is downright aggravating
and while onaga might be difficult at first, i've quickly discovered that he is the easiest boss i've ever fought. now that i think about it, apart from mk1 and mkda, he's the only final boss i've ever beaten without resorting to using a cheap special move like jax's robot punch or baraka's sushi blade move. i can actually beat him with most other characters without even using special moves. i beat him with a flawless victory on medium. and i beat him on my first try on hard.
