Only the gameplay though, the secrets and the other shit should be the same (fatalities). Soul Calibur HAS the best fighting engine out and actually IS the best fighting game out. The gameplay "flows" in what ways no other game has yet to do, Tekken is sketchy, DOA takes too long to do a move, don't let me talk bout VF. If MK was combined with that gameplay, it WOULD take the spot as the best fighting game.

Absolutely not.

MK is MK because it's NOT anything else. Making it a clone would suck.

MK needs to have it's own flavor, as the 2-MILLION+ selling Deadly Alliance had.

No.

SC is good, but not THAT good.

I still like the gameplay of MKDA the best.

No. MK is MK. Not Soul Kombat or Mortal Kalibur II. If you start cloning aspects from other games you get the same product over and over again. It's just not fun that way.

The Mortal Kombat franchise could borrow a few aspects of each game.

In terms of gameplay the developers should design their own method of fighting.

What Mortal Kombat should borrow is menu type displays.

For instance, In Mortal Kombat you could unlock different items such as weapons, like in weapon mode of Soul Calibur II.

I agree. But on terms of gameplay, Deadly Alliance is the best.

In one thread, people wanted the characters to have different throw animations for when the player/opponent was in close in different positions, like in SC... But that's something for SC, and isn't needed in Mortal Kombat. MK:DA's fighting system ruled, and IMO was better than that of Soul Calibur's (although I wish that there was the ability to dash...), and I hope that if they do change it that the change isn't drastic. If one wants a fighting game with the style of SC 2, then they should just get the game.

HELL NO!!!
this game is what it is because of its originality, i think it would be real stupid to try to copy from other games. Nothing else compares to mortal kombat, NOTHING ELSE!!! except for maybe Tao Feng. But from what i heard it sucked.

Once again, that will be the downfall of mortal kombat, that much is certain.

Thats exactly what I was saying on another topic. It should have the gameplay, and style of soul calibur. That was my one gripe with deadly allaince, it was too simple. If it had the complex gameplay of soul calibur, with cool finishing moves, and cool characters it would be number one.

Agree with me or not but MK:DA system isn't some kind of revolution and needs much to get better. SC shows the way. But the way don't have to be the same of course. MK has atmosphere and tradition. If this will go in pair with some better gameplay MK may be better than master.

it needs sidesteps and dashes... SC 2 is still great... but so is MK. theycan both be very good games just different. mk could also use some help with blood effects tho... its should stain clothes and skin instead of just flowing completely away.

Midway did a real good job with Deadly Alliance. This is a huge change compared to Mortal Kombat 4. So Mortal Kombat just keeps inproving. I thought the fighting and combo system and everything was just great the way it was. For those dissapointed maybe by 6 they will fix the things you claim were bad. I never played Soul Calibur nor the second part. I dont like that type of fighting games. The only types of fighting games I like are Street Fighter games and Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat comes up on top though. Its one of the greatest games out there and one of the first fighting games too.

I don't think MK6 should have Soul Calibur gameplay, but it should use some aspects of it, for instance the throw system.

In a word...no.

In a more elaborate response, some of those who posted in this thread have already said it...MK needs to have its own "flavor" otherwise it will lose originality. I think having some and I mean some as in a bit of SC2's aspects in it won't be too bad of an idea. Then again, MK needs and should be its own thing.
MK needs a lot of improvement for the fighting engine, It is Way too simple. I understand that it is their first try at a very realistic style of combat.

With the logical improvements that will come with time I expect to see.

Dashing
Complex reversals
Parries
Side and back throws
Attacking while facing away
breakable combos
A much larger arsenal for every character.
Throw escapes
etc.

Eventually they will have to start adding things that are already in the top fighters. It's inevitable and It would be bad if they didn't because then people would complain about the lack of evolution in the fighting engine.

They wouldn't be copying SC, they would simply be making the game more REALISTIC.

They have to do it if they want to be on top.

The game has to evolve or else it will die out.

The only way I can think of that MK could copy SC, is if they do certain things exactly the same way. Like have the parry work the same.

Or add unrealistic moves like a charge hit.

But some things are just done the best in a certain way like >> for a quick dash.

They can have all the features needed, but just have them executed differently.

I hope that MK keeps getting more realistic, not too realistic but more like in the movies.
People that say MK should not copy and be it's own game.

Please explain what you would have the fighting engine be like?

What would you be able to do in a fight?

Think deep about it, and explain it in detail.

Just saying MK should not copy is not enough. You need to say what it is that it shouldn't copy.

Give a mental image of what you are thinking.

I'm not talking about fatalities , or blood, but the actual game play, that includes stage interaction too.

You really should not copy, its against copy right laws, and mk will be in a heap of trouble, thats why. That way at least the minority of fans wont effect that part of gameplay. Geez.

It shouldn't!

MK has it's own style. Making it play like SC turns it into SC, but with fatalities. It might as well be MK vs SC! Some of MK's gameplay features do need fixing, like sidestepping, blocking, throwing etc, but MK will eventually do this in it's own way.

Anyway, MK is a different fighter complete from SC! Both are suceeses in their own ways. To combine them both could lead to a something shockingly bad rather than the blessing you think it could be.
Again, I see no no no, but no explanation as to what should it be like.
You wouldn't want to have.

Parries
Reversals that look real.
Side throws
throw escapes
Wall combos

??????????

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want the game to evolve.

Basically what I understand is you want the game to stay how it is.

sorry, I just don't get that. confused

By having all those moves in a fighting game, you can't be sued because those are things that are in real life.

If people were sued for having those options, then nobody would be able to make fighting games.

That is like saying that you would be sued for being able to walk in a game.....It doesn't make any sense.

How about this, I want to see anybody improve the MK game engine without doing anything that has already been done in a fighting game before.

Please don't get mad for me asking this, I'm just curious as to what you can come up with.smile

I'm not trying to start a fight here.

Just design it and try to go in to detail. I'm very curious about this.

Why is it that posts with Soul Calibur or Tekken or Virtual Fighter or ETC, get the most repsonces. MK can learn from them but should have a different, better gameplay.
