I saw one person comment how Armageddon is going to kill off a bunch of MK characters? I thought that MK3 would have done that with Kahn's extermination squads. I also thought that was the reason MK4 took place in the Neatherealm with its overlord Shinnok.

As for starting a new generation of MK characters, seriously, I think that Boon has been tapped for ideas since MK3. After that game, most every character just has recycled moves. Ashra = Rayden, Kai = Shang Tsung's fireballs, Cobra = Johnny Cage, Kyra = Kano, Shinnok = move stealing of Shang Tsung without morphing, Quan Chi = Kintaro's moves.

They just take half of two characters, and make a new character.

With MK Deception and Deadly Alliance, they were really tapped for characters, Li Mei, is like Kari from Killer Instinct Gold, Daruis is like Fulgore, even down to the gauntlets. Heck, a few of the characters from MK1 were characters from the movie Big Trouble in Little China.

Exactly....LoL!!! Why would you put this on the old gen consoles when the new gen consoles are the hottest thing going right now? People are spending lost of money for theses systems and now you want to put this on the old one? In 2005 didnt they say during a press conference that the game was going to be on the new gen system? I am very upset by this. Why not use the next gen consoles since their much more powerful? With 8 people on the screen at one time are there going to be any problems with online play on the old consoles? Is it going to at least be backwards compatible? If its not at least that I think they are making a huge mistake.
If they have to push the date back to make it playable on the next gen systems I'm all for it.

Is this sarcasm? Its been established the only thing MK ever did first was juggles. The story was unoriginal and uninspired. The character design wasn't much better. Shang tsung was a very generic martial arts film villain and the characters were very similiar to big trouble in little china. Liu kang was generic as was kano and scorpion was mildly original. and sonya was generic as well.

Seriously is this badly done sarcasm?

I think MK's originality stemmed from several combined factors, making the "whole" greater than the sum of it's parts. The game play, the character backgrounds and their respective stories made for something unique in it and of itself.
I remember the first time I saw the game, I thought it was obvious that the character likeness' were "adopted" from familiar sources and put into a free for all setting. Bruce Lee, Sho Kosugi, Van Dam, Rothrock, Big Touble in Little China, The Terminator...Mix all these things up and more and you have MK...I look forward to the next game.

Justycist:

I was like everyone else with the fatalities thing...

for a week or so...hell i sold the moves to fatalities to stupid kids on MK2/3 that I got from the internet. From then it all came down to the gameplay, how to beat my friends and strangers alike. Most of my memorable MK experiences were gained at the arcade every day after school. You weren't there man, you don't know jack.

Actually, I'm glad to see it on current systems (and I do own a 360). Let them take the time to make a game that takes advantage of the new systems. Plus, come October the XBox 1 is really going to be hurting for games, it'll be nice to have something fairly high-profile like this come out around there.

I always thought of it like Enter the Dragon.

A mysterious Island

The Han's tournament/Shang Tsung's tournament

Bruce Lee / Liu Kang

The Gambler and Mr Confidence/ Cage

The crowd watching and clapping

There are many more similarites.

Haha! Mk Trilogy II! I'm so excited!

But...

At the same time, I'm sad. I've been playing MK since I was at least 5 years old (don't worry, I grew up just fine), not that I ever won any matches that early in my life. MK1 was cool, MK II was a favorite, MK III was ok, MK Trilogy was the best, MK IV/Gold was ok too, and 5 and 6 were awesome. I'm not sure I want this generation of MK to end.

From what I see in the roster picture, Kintaro made the cut. It looks as if he has a ponytail now, which is a bad idea. Makes him look like a spainard version of Goro. Shao Kahn on a version other than Gamecube will be nice as well. Sheeva...looks rediculous. I'm glad Mileena stays (perhaps a cheat will allow us to play as her topless "wallpaper" appearance in MK:D's krypt). I don't know how Frost will come back. Noob Saibot and Human Smoke are definate must-haves. Kind of want to see Reptile in his Shaolin Monks form. Don't remember Stryker being blonde (perhaps just dyed his hair). Rain looks cool. As for Reiko, not only does he look gay in Kahn's armor, but it also raises some interesting questions, such as why he's wearing it in the first place. And last but not least...Shinnok! He looks the way he was supposed to: like an elder God, and not some stupid sorcerrer wannabe. I suspect the big firey guy in the back to be some form of The One Being.

If I were to predict the ending for the game (a bad ending), then I would think it would be similar to End of Evangelion: All the souls of the universe become one consummate being I.E The One Being.
