I would recommend X-Box Live over PS2 since X-Box live is only broadband. I know that the PS2 Network Adapter has broadband connection, but it also has dial-up. If a player has dial-up, there might be lag time.

i definitely agree, IF you can afford broadband, go for XBOX live, bcoz no1 will lag, not you or the other guy on the other end, so it will be more enjoyable, plus the graphics will probably be better too... so if you can afford broadband, go for XBOX Live...

hmmmmm. I think I would have to agree. Although I like PS2, lag is a deffinate way to ruin the online matches.....

Well i d say xbox for a few reasons
1 i own one
2 No connectiosn less than cable online for LIVE
3 better graphics on the XBOX

Good things about X-box:
1. Graphics
2. All Broadband
3. X-box Live is cool.
Good things about PS2
1. More competition(not better, just more users), unless they cross-system the online play.
2. I like the controllers(personal opinion)
3. You don't have to pay a fee for Online use, you just buy the adapter and if you have a broadband connection you're good to go.
I will be using the PS2. It will probably be broadband only(many newer games are) so, lag issues shouldn't be a problem(can't say it won't because I could be playing somebody across the country on either system and it would generate lag). I'd also like to be competing in a bigger pond.
I would really like to know the answer to some of the brought about ?'s. Will PS2 be broadband only? and will Xbox owners be able to play against ps2 owners.
The answers to these ?'s may affect my decision.

I havent heard many good things about ps2 online, but I own xbox live, I like it very much, it is very well designed and thought of. My suggestion would be to go for xbox live, plus with xbox live, you will be able to talk to person you are playing with. As far as I know, voice functionality for ps2 is not confirmed.
I would ALSO have to go with Xbox Live, not only because I love Xbox and own one but simply because it's better. If you have dial-up then go with PS2, but if you have Highspeed internet the obvious choice would be Xbox Live. Better online play and if there really is a god, Xboxer migh end up getting downloadable content. Hmmm...

I'm running my PS2 on broadband right now. I am currently playing EA's football, golf, baseball, and basketball online WITH A HEADSET. I also am the leader of Iron Maiden in Socom II which is a BROADBAND-ONLY title that utilizes the HEADSET, and we have 15 members in our clan. I can jump on SocomII any night of the week and there will be about 30000 people on. On weekends there are tons.
On March 26th, a 40 GB hard drive is coming out for PS2, for 99.99 and it comes with FF XI and FF XI's expansion pack, which can be played simultaneously with people on the computer version of the game.
I'm not saying PS2 is better, nor, am I saying it is worse. All I'm saying, to the original poster, is that there are a few people on here who seem to be misinforming you. It seems that they only have XBOX, and are saying "xbox rules, PS2 cant do this, I haven't heard anything good about it, etc". They haven't mentioned how Frost locked up MK:DA on xbox every now and then.
In summary,
A. PS2 is capable of voice communication.
B. If downloadable content is made, it won't only be for XBOX.
C. PS2 has a broadband connection also, and for a fast paced fighter, I doubt they will allow dial-ups on the PS2 version.
D. You don't have to pay a fee for PS2, like XBOX Live.
E. I still like the controller better.
F. I think there will be more competition on the PS2. On Socom II alone, there are roughly 350,000 broadband users.
Yes, the XBOX has a better processor, but I'm just letting you know that the PS2 isn't a piece of crap, as some would have you believe. Honestly, I'd look into both and figure out which you prefer.

First of all, ps2 might be capable of voice communication, but not all of the online games support it. The cool thing is about xbox live, all the games support it. The developer doesnt need to worry about the voice communication becuase it is integreated in xbox live itself. Like I said before, nobody knows if ps2 version of MKD will support voice communication, if it doesnt, then I must say SHAME on Midway. As for not paying for online service, if you cant afford 6 dollar a month for the service, I say Get a Job. The number of xbox live players also is coming close to 1 million as far as I know. You mentioned all the online games for ps2, but if you take a closer look at those titles, 90% of those games are published by EA which have not supported xbox live before, but that is going to change :) Only first party online games that ps2 have is soccom 1&2. I agree Soccon 1&2 are good games but I've heard people cheat alot and ps2 online has more lag than xbox live. I am not trying to start a console war, but If I had to choose between ps2 online or xbox live. I choose xbox live without hesitation. That's my honest opinion about it.

Ps2 is what i have and is what i'll go with.

I have both of the systems, but I'm quite fond of my PlayStation 2. I already have the modem, so I'm set. I like the idea that once I paid for the modem, I'm through. No yearly subscription fees or anything lame (although $50 a year isn't anything to cry home about). Online gaming runs pretty smooth on the PlayStation 2 as well. I had a blast with SSX online.
I don't think the Xbox and the PlayStation 2 version will be able to go against each other either. That was one of Square-Enix's complaints towards Microsoft. Square-Enix wanted all the different versions of Final Fantasy XI to be able to play against each other but Microsoft wanted a closed network, meaning only Xbox owners could play against Xbox owners, so Square-Enix just went with a PC and PlayStation 2 release, which are compatable with each other. At least that's the response Wada-san (Square-Enix's president) gave when asked why Final Fantasy XI went only to the PS2 and PC (after the rumors that FF XI was going to be made for the Xbox and Game Cube as well).
I think that's going to limit Deception as well. This is assuming that Microsoft hasn't changed their stance of cross-platform networks. I know Sony recently announced that they've sold 2.6 million network adaptors in the US (I'm not sure how many Xbox Live starter kits have been sold by comparison; I just know that the PS2 network adaptor outsold XBL according to Sony), so there's plenty of enough competition on the PlayStation 2 servers to go around.
However, Xbox Live is certainly better in the aspect that it is broad-band only. For all we know, half of those 2.6 million PS2 network adapter owners are dail-up. :)
Also the Xbox version has the benifit of the hard-drive as well, which is also way cool. Sure the PS2 has its 40 gig hard-drive due out in two weeks (which is five times larger than the Xbox's), but it's also a hundred bucks. Even if the Xbox's HD is only 8 gigs in comparison, at least it's free. Besides who really needs 40 gigs for a console anyway?
Anyway, I think both versions have their online strong points and at the end of the day it won't really make too much a difference one way or the other. It would be interesting to see if Sony and Microsoft have come to an agreeance with PS2 vs Xbox online gaming, but last I heard Sony wants to keep online gaming between the PC and the PS2 while Microsoft just wants the Xbox going against other Xboxes.

SleepWalker has summed up everything I want to take into concideration on this.. i'd prefer to NOT have to pay for online fighting in MK:D... i'll be paying already for the broadband service and FFXI, i'd rather NOT have another charge to my bank account for something I don't play too much of online in the first place.. but if it's free and has downloadable content in the future, then definitely PS2 for me. I know the X-box would have slightly sharper graphics, but if the gameplay is even both ways around, it's gonna be PS2-bound for me.

A. So is Xbox
B. Yea, but you wont have to buy new hardware if you use Xbox.
C. Broadband only for xbox.. I would like to know that everyone i am playing is using broadband, not just some.
D. No, you only have to pay a 1 time fee for a whole year ($50)! Not like PS's rideculous's online pricing.
E. This is the only good point you made, but you can always buy an adapter on ebay for like $10 which lets you use PS2 controllers on Xbox. I'd rather pay $10 for an adapter, than the $100 for PS's hard drive.
F. More competition.... Maybe more pleople using it (which I still doubt), but not more competition. Not all the "BIG" mk players, but most have already stated they will be using Xbox.
Do you HW next time before you try to mislead/inform someone.
And as for the overall quality of MK:D for Xbox v PS2. Boon did say they were going to take advantage of each systems strengths for MK6. Translation= The xbox version will most likely look/load the best.

I have a PS2 and so i'll probably go with that, the pad is the balls of all others out there and i cant use them at all, there terrible for fighting games. As for broadband users only, can you not state when your online that you want to play broadband users (low ping) only?
What PS2 Online games charge then?

"B. If downloadable content is made, it won't only be for XBOX."
has there been any confirmations of ps2 downloadable content? i haven't heard of any. while xbox live has already proven downloadable content is a big thing to them considering a lot of live games have already supported it.
"D. You don't have to pay a fee for PS2, like XBOX Live."
yes you do. you have to buy the harddrive. xbox owners don't even need xbox live. there's always xbconnect aswell which is free.
if you're a die hard mk fan and own broadband, get it for xbox. not only will the game be better than the ps2 version. but broadband online play, you just can't get better than xbox live at the moment.

Well, the thing is, we don't know yet if Midway is going to butcher the game on any of the platforms like they did DA on Xbox last time. If they take equal care, though, I would go for the Xbox personally, since that's the only console I own, and I will never own a PS2.
As for the online aspect, Live is obviously a far better service than what PS2 has to offer (not even a service). As of right now there's no guarantee there won't be a fee to play MK: D online for PS2 players either, although it's not likely that there will be. There's also no guarantee voice communication will be supported in the PS2 version, which is quite a perk in a fighting game (or any game for that matter). Just some things for those of you with a choice to consider.

B. It depends on what you mean by downloadable content. I just downloaded a patch from Socom II the other day(went to my memory card). Madden regularly updates player rosters to coincide with actual NFL injuries/trades. Sure, nothing huge yet, bur as soon as the Hard drive is released, there will be new maps/weapons/skins released for Socom II. Downloadable content will be there, I'm just waiting on my hard drive to get it.
D. You don't have to buy the hard drive to go online with PS2, just the network adapter. You can get an online pack for $199.99. It comes with the console, one controller, a network adapter, power/AV cables, and ATV Offroad Fury II.
I'm not advocating PS2 for MK:D(I'll be using it though). Hell, I may play on both systems to see how I fare with Xbox users as well as PS2 users.
As far as Midway not implementing things like online chat and broadband vs. broadband only, I believe they will because PS2's version of MK:DA sold many more copies than xbox's.
"Total game sales had reached 1.3 million (PS2), 468,000 (XBox), 468,000 (GameCube), 1.3 million (GameBoy Advance) as of December 1st. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance ranked 9th in total sales on the Playstation 2 platform last month."
So, saying that competition on Xbox will be better because you all will be playing on xbox is illogical because more people are on the PS2. If you are saying that posters here are better than non-posters at mortal kombat.. then that is just arrogance on your part.

Well, we'll see, I doubt the players will be divided up based on their connection, but it's possible. I don't think unbroadband (narrowband?) users will like it if their competition is limited, and I'm pretty sure the same will go for those on broadband.
