A lot of blood, gore and violence in my opinion. I think it should describe why the game its call, "Mortal Kombat" in the first place. But then again, I really don't want "concern" parents suing MK due to their kids getting dramatize. =/.

My oppion Mk's not really that bad when it comes to the envelope. Just because after playing GTA nothing pushes the envelope then it. MK has blood and gore and a lot of bad things in it but it doesn't swear. Also you don't see kids and people going out doing things they saw on MK LoL.

"Why is Timmy in the freezer?"
"I couldn't freeze him like Sub-Zero so I weighed my options."

As for pushing the envelope.. Mortal Kombat would have to drop most of the jokes and things. The game would have to retain the gothic feeling that Mortal Kombat 2 once possessed. We may see this slowly become the trend once again. :)

The story should be more graphic. Children being slaughtered, churches being overrun with bloodthristy demons killing the helpless monks and ravaging the nuns.More intense drama that will make the player walk away from the game thinking "how could that bastard do that"? I think the violence is ok but graphic storytelling is what will really push the envelop. Look at the endings of Twisted metal BLACK. Now thats the type of sick that MK needs!!!

They only way to shock gamers now (and trust me on this) would be sex in the game. A Sexality. Thats it the only thing. Society has seen it all, I think we have all come to expect the worst of the worst not just in games, but in almost everything we see on TV. Thats it.

I can see why MK is rated M. ALOT of blood and Gore. You notice all the blood gusshing out of your opponent every second when a weapon is impaled inside them in MK:DA? That was sick but in a good way
violence and blood in mk isnt really "violent" or shocking, i think that fatalities in the MKs nowadays are geenrally campy and kind of dumb. exceptions would be johnny cages brain surgerey. THATS how fatalities need to be. need more examples? go play rockstar's "Manhunt" the stealth kills and violence in that put MK to shame because of the intense violence, detail, and realism of the kills. u cant help but feel a little shudder when u wrap a plastic bag over a guys face and suffocate him, or literaly cracking open a skull like an egg with the crowbar, and dont get my started on how nasty shattering a guys skull looks with the bat...THATS violewnt, MK is hokey

great post illison. you should defiently get points for this but anywho people cant or atleast shouldnt sue the company if the game is violent or sexual. thats why its rated mature so the people who sue would be screwed cause they have no case.ya but mk should push the envolope. make mk bloody and really goryie. just go balls to the wall and come up with freaky bloody new things to make mk a mature game fan favorite again get it back in the seat of contreversey. anywho this off topic but because of saying how kids are influenced by games i have a quick story. when i was 5 and i was playing mk2 i pretended to fight sub-zero and when i was doing this fake fighting i did one of those hi-ya's and when i bit down my tooth went straight threw my tongue. i had a huge whole in my tongue for about 2 months. yea but mk should include decapation right in the middle of battle. like if you were to hit some one with an axe and it sliced threw there arm there arm sould be decapatated or un able to use during the rest of the round. fatalaties should be more grusome and hair rasing. give it a edge. give fatalaties a better way of going, make them like a suprise so people playing the game would go wow i wouldnt expect that to be in a mk game. a new kind of fatalaty could be a friendship that blows up in your face and kills ur oppoent. but the people at midway shouldnt go overboard and create riduclous things like in mk3 were jax would have a fatality were he would become a giant and squish you or somebody becoming a arcade machine and killing them with that. yes those were comical and gave mk a sense of humor but kind of ruined the game. anywho ill reply later cause ive been babaling for too long.

Thanks.
its not fucking gta's fault for the dumbass kids doing what they did they just fucking blamed it on the game so they would have less of a punshiment it's the kids own dumbass fault for fucking the doing the shit they did.
on topic i think more blood and gore

I wouldn't mind if MK took full advantage of it's "M" rating, but I don't think more violence is the best way to do it. If it were up to me, I would have gotten rid of 95% of the explosion fatalities and given them only to characters who would do them in a fashion that makes sense.
I don't think language is the best way either, because swearing is only worth it's own shock value. After that, it could turn into a reptitive nightmare. But if there were a way it could turned on and off, I guess it would be somewhat entertaining
So how should MK take advantage of it's mature rating? Simple. Let all the talented fans submit loads of "un-rated" fanart to Midway. Then, the programmers make a gallery out of it put it into the game as a secret. I guess it could be a bonus after beating the game or possibly unlocked in Konquest. Then after, we could enjoy all the fanart's unratedness.

More bloody and slow fatalities.
The Fatalities in MKD are looking perfect IMO.
I would like Scorpion to say
Get tha F!#& over here!! once in a while.
That'd be good for a laugh.
I see problems with some youngsters though. You are playing MK and right as your mom walks by your room she hears. GET THA F#$! OVER HERE!!!.

I dont see why boon says he dosnt want anything too real? I mean, heaps of games do it now, and making things more real would make the game better.
They need to put back what MK2 had.
Kung lao's slice in half fatality could happen (with something very very sharp.
Mileenas Sai stab could happen.
Both of barakas could.
But they need to be slow, and painfully done.
Also if when u get hit by sword or something, HEAPS of blood should come out, and a big mark should be left on the body.
There needs to be PAINFULL screams and a really gross out story line.

Judging by your sig, we both idolize the same greatness.
Anyway to (somewhat) answer the topic at hand, why does it need to push anything?
I think MK speaks for itself, and it's originality is all that matters, regardless of how offensive it is or isn't.

I don't think MK needs anything more to "push the envelope". MK is the original "Envelope pusher", if you will. And I think Boon is keeping it smart by making things gory, yet keeping a bit of cartoonish value to the character designs.
Everything moves in cycles though. And what it all boils down to, to me anyway, is parents not taking responsibility for their actions.
"Oh, Johnny, you're bleeding!! What happened?"
"Me and Mark were playing Mortal Kombat outside"
"Mortal Kombat huh? Well that settles that, this game needs to not be made anymore."
Kids emulate what they see, if your kid can't handle the concept of fantasy and reality then it's YOUR responsibility to watch them, not deprive the rest of us from having fun.
Ok, rant over.
But yeah, I think Boon is playing it smart by not making it too realistic. As I am sure he doesn't want to face another couple hundred lawsuits from angry parents.
As for fatalities, I was actually thinking the other day how the fatalities in MK1 were much more "hands on" if you get my drift. Like physical interaction (Sub-Zero's head rip, Kano's heart rip, Johnny cage's uppercut, Liu Kang's wheel kick uppercut. The same goes for MK2 as well. Then in MK3 you had things like Sindel's screaming your flesh off, Kabal's scaring you to death, Smoke's bomb drop down the throat, etc etc.
I like what I have seen so far in Deception fatalities. To me they do have a MK2 esque feel to them. I think the backgrounds contribute to that feeling as well.
As far as fighters go I think MK is still the envelope pusher. But I guess over all GTA would hold that honor now. I'm still amazed, if GTA3 or VC was made in the early 90's I can only imagine what the developers would have to go through on a daily basis when it came to concerned parents.

LOL this is a really shitty flash i made quickly.
But this is what i think the fatalitys should look like (but slower lol) and from what ive seen, barakas is very gross and bloody like this.
This is still kinda unrealistic, but it needs to be all gory and bloody, thats what will get the rating up.

I think that if they want to make it more extreme, they should make the fatalities more realistic. My friend was playing MKDA with me not long ago, he's not a big MK fan but he has played a couple of the old games, and he said that the fatalities looked very stupid. Not realistic in the slightest. I'd never really noticed it, but he was right - as they looked cheesy with the 'popcorn' flesh and just weren't gruesome. The only ones that came close are Cyrax's and Kenshi's.
SO if they made the fatalities more horific (which I'm still 50/50 on after seeing the MKD videos a couple of months ago - with the exception of Hotaru's on Ermac, his hari - kiri, and the death traps) then the limits will be pushed to the max. Remember the controversy that MK created when it first came out? The parents were horrified at the violence, blood, death scenes etc. If they can regain the shock value the first two games had, then I think it will become shocking once again, which is what made most followers of MK, fans in the first place.

lol, Bleed.
I forgot to point something out. If Mortal Kombat were to put Sexuality to the game, then it does not belong to the rated M category. There is a Rated A, which you are guessing is only for Adults, not Teens.
