Let me start by saying that the title of this thread doesn't sum up this post, and is more of a witty remark to make this stand out among the million other threads of people complaining that probably exist and I didn't bother to look through just yet. What I wanna do with this post is not just rant, complain and pointlessly whine, but actually analyze this whole controversial situation and try to apply my point of view to it in hopes that other people share my point of view and, consequently, OUR point of view will become more understandable rather than endless anger.

The question right now is:

"Is MK Vs. DCU a bad idea?"

Some people say fuck, yes. Some people say no, it's not. Some people are still crying and can't type. Why is this so? Is one group of people wrong while all the others are dumb-asses? My answer is no, for one simple reason that people are just not stopping to think about: MK fans like MK for different reasons, and MK fans hope for different things when a new installment is announced.

So before I say anything, let me tell you what kind of MK fan I am. I am an MK fan who forgives all sorts of gameplay mechanic faults due to the fact that I'm too busy marveling at the new direction the storyline and the characters have taken. You're going crazy because Sub-Zero has 27 infinites, while I'm trying to beat the game with Sub-Zero to find out his ending, all the while wondering to myself where this will lead him in the next installment and how that will impact the overall storyline. This isn't to say I'll accept a game that plays like shit - I'm just more lenient with gameplay if the game itself is profound and meaningful. If you're like me, you're probably going to understand and even agree with all the things I'm about to say. If you're my opposite, then chances are your excitement for the next MK has not dwindled whatsoever, and your hopes are as high as a crackhead in an abandoned road.

So Leo, did you like the idea of MK Vs. DCU? Well, imaginary person who just asked me that... kiss my ass. No I didn't like it one bit when I found out about it. I went into a half-coma when it was announced. Let's look up MK Vs. DCU on the Leo dictionary:

The people who are jumping for joy at the mere announcement of this game turn my stomach and tie it into 5 butterfly knots, because we don't have much to go on right now besides the fact that this is a crossover game involving the DC Universe! If this makes you happy, then A) You're obsessed with DC, B) You settle and accept too quickly, or C) You've fucking lost your marbles, just like Boon has.

Yes, Boon has lost his damn marbles! I say this because he ruined the hopes of what has always seemed like the majority of MK fans in this site and others! Look, I'm not saying MK Vs. ____________ is a horrible idea, I'm not THAT close-minded. But NOT NOW! This was NOT the right time for this kind of shit! MK:8 meant so many things: it was a restart of the Mortal Kombat franchise! It was going to be fresh, innovative! It was going to bring back that same feeling we had when Deadly Alliance was coming out (which characters were going to make it? How would the storyline continue?) It was going to prove that Mortal Kombat -- and notice I say MORTAL KOMBAT, not DC -- was and still is a series with amazing potential and enough power to hold a top spot among the next-gen fighters! Then comes Boon with his "I'm such a hell-spawned genius" smirk and announces he just gave up on all that and instead decided to take a huge-ass risk that would make his life much easier! I mean, why spend time and effort creating something that would live up to the fans' expectations and deliver if you can just make something that's crazy enough to make it all easier? We're being fed shock value to take our minds off the quality of what could've been! Unfortunately, it's working on quite a few of you who are saying "I'm giving the game a chance! This is gonna ROX!" on Day 2.

There's just no argument against the cold, cruel, hard thruth that the MK:8 we now know is going to be many, many levels BELOW the MK:8 we once hoped for, for the simple reasons I stated above. Even if MK VS. DCU boasts the best fighting MK has ever seen (which is still a long shot), it will STILL disappoint a large fan base of the franchise through the weak-ass storyline it's gonna have and the mere fact that Boon gave up and got DC in the picture to try and live up to everyone's growing expectations. And before anybody says anything, NO, there's NO WAY the storyline of this game can be saved, and it WILL make Armageddon's storyline have the wonder of MK:1 all over again; because whichever way you slice it, and whatever gimmicks you put between the slices, it still comes down to fucking Sub-Zero battling Batman, fucking Scorpion battling Superman, and fucking Sonya battling Wonder Woman. A couple days ago, we were anxious to find out if Sub-Zero was maybe gonna have a big rivalry with noob! A couple days ago, we were ecstatic thinking where Scorpion would go from here, if he would ally with Sub, if he would go after the Elder Gods! A couple days ago, we were evaluating the possibility of Sonya having to deal with a cyborg-Jax corrupted by Sektor, or taking up a bigger role in the Mortal Kombat storyline. But all that's out the window now, guys, because, again, Sub-Zero's going after Batman, Scorpion's GRRRR over Superman, and Sonya's Leg-grabbing Wonder Woman's big-ass hair. And there's people settling for this? There's people accepting this? There's people going "ZOMG TIS MAH DREAM CUMS TROO!!11" over this? Don't you people realize what we just lost? Don't you people relize what COULD have been? Don't you people realize that no matter how amazing this game plays, Ed Boon has just completely WASTED MK's big entrance into next-gen? I mean, WTF, even if this game, by some great miracle, turns out amazing and sells billions of copies, MK will be remembered by its new fans as the game that fought DC superheroes well, and NOT that great next-gen fighter that revolutionized what MK was about and gave it a new beginning! And if you say "MK was dead anyway, this is the only chance it has", then fuck you with 100 dildos up the behind, you've given up on MK's potential a long time ago.

But hey, if all you want out of an MK game is great gameplay, then congratulations, your grave is not entirely dug yet and you still have chances of coming out of this happy! But if you're deeper than that, and if you knew MK could have been a lot more than just great gameplay, then I feel for you.

Here's hoping that MK VS. DCU has astonishing gameplay, so that I'll be tempted to at least rent it. And here's hoping that in a year or so, we'll get a REAL Mortal Komat game, an MK that's good for MK, that's good because MK had the potential to be good, and that continues where Armageddon left off. I just hope............. really hope.................. that when that time comes....... it's not too late, and the "magic and wonder" we were all drooling over a couple days ago is already dead, never to return again, no matter what.
