If the Flash or Kabal are in, both are in

They're the only two characters that can rival each other with their super speed. Who else do you think can't be in w/o having their opposing counterpart?

Maybe, although maybe it won't simply be by pure powers that some characters will be "compared" to. Maybe personality or charisma? Something along those lines. Although, at least Kabal has other abilities. What else besides a "rush spin" type of move would Flash have?

well i wouldnt say just cuz one of them is in the other would be... and we dont know yet if either are in or not.... though i actually do think Kabal has a chance to be in this game.... id say like 35 or 40% chance he will be in.... not high chance but imo most MK chars got 0 chance lol....
i mean Kabal is a fav among some of the main devs i believe.... and lets dont forget about the 4 animal pics that were on noob.com.... the one of the rhino i still think could very well have represented Kabal and hints toward that he maybe in the game.... plus yeah typical counterpart for flash would be kabal and im thinking flash will be in the game... but me personally.... i dont think this whole counterpart thing is gonna be like really big thing deciding who in the game. im not really expecting when i play the game to think "oh yeah this guy is like that guy and that guy is like Reptile and blah blah blah this is kool...." lol.
with that said yes i still stand firm thinking Rain actually has a chance to be in the game cuz of the pic... but hard to say... id say 25% chance Rain will be in the game cuz of the pic and his popularity actually did sky rocket... the team could have recognized that and may believe that his popularity would just continue to grow if he were to be in this game thus far making the right decision really... if they really believe Rain will continue to grow more in his fanbase.... like seriously Rain could become top 10 most popular MK character if his fanbase grows some more.

Depending on your gameplay you'd be looking at either a flurry punch move (or something like E. Honda's hundred hand slap), or if there's a greater depth to gameplay, a lot of high intencity combos. The Flash is well known for attacking opponents with super speed punches.
The Flash's powers are really some of the most diverse in comics.
Another very MK style move could take advantage of his ability to manipulate speeds in other objects; so for free hits he could suck up the speed of his opponent for a few seconds, dramatically slowing them down.
Shifting to Flash's perspective for a few minutes could also create the opposite -- something comparable to Sub-Zero's freeze move, where for a few seconds the other character is frozen, while the Flash moves at "super speed."
Geeky footnote: In the JLA/Avengers crossover it was established the source of the Flash's power - the speed force - doesn't exist outside DC universes. The merger of realms could be explanation for balanced game mechanics, because otherwise, the Flash would literally run rings around everybody.
In that respect, I also don't think there's any reason to think of Kabal as a character with super speed. That isn't part of the logic of the character, and in that respect, I don't like to think of him as the Flash's counterpart. But, for the sake of in-game reference, sure, it works.
This game probably won't be best balanced, since it's using a crossover with notable characters. Most likely, Kabal is not in.
However, they may end up giving some random MK character super speed like the flash so they keep a balance, but still keep the same iconic characters.
Just a theory.

I don't think there's any reason to expect DC's super powers to be any more powerful in-game. Like some of the potential Flash abilities I described above, there are a lot of equivalents to be recognised.
A lot of people really seem to be forgetting that there's already a suspension of disbelief in the existing MK game mechanics. It's not like Sub-Zero overwhelms all competition because he can freeze and shatter them in an instant...
This also isn't the first time DC heroes have been in a beat 'em up.
Justice League Task Force had the likes of Darkseid, Superman and Wonder Woman fighting substantially weaker opponents; like Green Arrow and Aquaman.
Balance for the sake of gameplay isn't anything new.

Yeah well what if they had certain characters "unbalanced".

I'm not touching anything that isn't defined by conceptual merit!

Kabal is not a main character so he won't be in the game
The Flash will use Kabal tornedo spin as a special move

Flash is so much faster than Kabal it's not even funny
Kabal may have a rush move, but that does not mean he has the ability of super speed like the Flash.
aside from that, The Flash unless they go with Alex Ross's Kingdom Come design
then I can not really see him being able to fit into the dark atmosphere of this game. His standard bright red outfit is just far to bright and does not really fit in with the dark atmosphere of the game,
and Ed did say he would choos characters who fit into the atmosphere of the game....

Exactly! Bright red? Pffft, yeah right!
That doesn't fit with the DARKNESS of Mortal Kombat! Geez, Boon!...

I really don't see Kabal making the cut... in fact, I only give him about a 3% chance... You never know, though.
It really annoys me everytime when I see people that think Kabal could rival Flash just because he's got one lousy rush Move.
As for the costume, that seriously wouldn't be a problem. There have been characters with the same colors and even brighter ones. Flash isn't really going to stand out. And they could always make his costume a bit darker like in the TV show.

Kabal would run out of breath trying to catch up with The Flash's dust. It would have been "a whole lot easier" to have Street Fighter v.s Mortal Kombat. Batman fighting Sub Zero is a good look for a trailer, yeah. Everybody else? I don't know about that. I can't wait to see how they pull this off.

whoever said kabal is forgetable failed big style. Characters like Jarek, Reiko, Li Mei with no imagination or thought put into them are foregetable. Kabal has a decent story line, with an awsome appearence and to top of it off the best looking weapons in the game.
Considering some of the devs like him - i think he has a 50/50 chance of being the game, personally i think his character would be suitable for this title. So far it seems they arn't pairing fighters off by special moves or personallities.
Scorpion is a ninja spectre who is seeking vengence (a little more to it - i know) whereas Superman is your typical goodie goodie two shoes character, who happens to be an alien(i think) and doesn't breathe fire like scorpion does. None of there personalities match either. Personally i would have paired Raiden with Superman - not in terms of powers but because of the statuses of both. Superman from my perspectives seems godlike in the comics and books and raiden, well he is a god. Theyre also both good guys (raiden at the moment isn't but i bet he will be just for this title).
So i don't see why we can't have one without the other in terms of kabal and flash. I think we can expect to see them both (or at least one of them)

Scorpion and Superman are not meant to be counterparts. They were just announced together to confirm that the two most iconic of each series will be present. Raiden is indeed Superman's MK counterpart.
I agree that Kabal is clearly Flash's. Kabal is awesome and popular, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he appears to counter the Flash.

Kabal is NOT, in fact, the only character with a move that's meant to seem like super-speed. He's the only character who can run fast, yes, but many characters have a single attack where they suddenly shoot across the ground, either moving in the blink of an eye, or leaving a trail of afterimages behind them.
Afterimage special effects are almost always meant as a graphic trick to represent someone moving superhumanly fast.
Sareena has one. Taven has one (no afterimages, but it's called Speed of Light for a reason), Johnny Cage has several. I'm sure I can think of others, those are just off the top of my head.
Of the characters that have such moves, I think only Cage is "iconic" enough to have a chance at being in this game. And another way he fits as The Flash's counterpart is that they're both cocky and like to make jokes and one-liners. Kabal, on the other hand, barely ever talks and sounds like Darth Vader. That's not very similar to The Flash at all, is it?

I was trying to stave off the word cartoony when dicribing the Flashes costume because I figured some one would play the "and Superman's costume isnt" card so I just atacked the bright bright red thinking with the look of this game and even some one the last games Brights do nto fit in I was not talking about the old 2-D games

i think the flash fits with johnny cage if you think about it those 2 characters are perfect matches they both have the after image special effect to indicate super speed :D even though cage is not super fast i just see these two either getting along or hating each other because they are both goof balls
