I know I know another Raiden thread lol.smile Sorry But I have a Theory/Question.
Raiden
Origin: The Heavens
First Appearance: Mortal Kombat (1992)
Alignment: Good
Allies: Liu Kang, Kung Lao
Foes: Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Dragon King, Shinnok

History:
As a last resort against the Dragon King's advance, Raiden sacrificed himself by releasing his godlike essence; thereby creating an intense ethereal blast. The Dragon King was unaffected and continues to threaten the realms.

So does this mean he's a mortal or dead???
One side of me thinks it means just mortal that he scarificed his Goddly powers.
Another says he's dead but if he sacrifices his powers why would he die????

The way I envision it, from what I heard in the bio, is that Rayden blow himself up in similar manner as Majin Vegeta did on Dragonball Z (from the Buu saga). I think he's dead and that he a character you're gonna have to unlock to play as.

Then why would he be in an IGN article called The KOMBATANTS of MK Deception?

If the "intense blast" happened then that most mean that he died, or he probably got weakened and is mortal now. However I think that he probably died.

Yea the IGN article is titled MKD Kombatants so I think he's in it. If you look at the rotating character model on the card you can see that he no longer has his cape or the flowing flap between his legs from MKDA. This probably signifies his decrease in power.

Yeah, I read the bio, but why would IGN include him in a feature called the KOMBATANTS (fighters) of Mortal Kombat Deception? It's not like it's a feature about all the MKs, it's specifically this one. He could be in it or not, but being dead supposedly isn't stopping Liu Kang. Ah the wonderful MK Team at it again.

He is mortal, how can he be dead if he is going to be in MK Deception. You kinda need to be around to be in a game, plus he is a God, it just said he gave up his godlike essence, not his godhood.

I think that's kinda the idea. DA was a rebirth of sorts for the series, so this is the second installment of the new series.

Umm last time I checked the article didn't say "Raiden sacrificed his immortality...again." Odds are he is dead, but playable in Deception. There have been rumors that he would die during the Deception intro. I believe that Raiden is one of the few from DA that will return but won't affect the storyline, so yes you will be able to play as him, just like Jax, but I think he's dead. Sacrifice, excellent way for Raiden to go out.

OMG it's not that difficult. He has a Deception bio -- it's on IGN. He has a character model. He is IN the game, and he is obviously thus very alive and very not dead.

This most likely means that he is a mortal, because they said he unleashed his "godlike" essence. So we will probably see him in the intro confronting the Dragon King and kind of self destructing. He will no longer be a god or have god like powers.

Ok he is in the game, he has a purpose in the game, he isnt coming back as a playable character with no purpose otherwise why do they bother creating a bio for him. Chances are he permantly gave up his God status or lost his power for a time being.

I think Raiden would fight evil no matter what his condition is. As long as he can still move, he'll fight.

EXACTLY! He has proven that in past games by continously giving up his immortality.

From IGN:

And so, your friends here at IGN have teamed up with Midway to bring you an ongoing profile series dedicated to the cast of what can only be described as the biggest Mortal Kombat title yet. Officially designatedThe Kombatants of MK: Deception, our irregular collection of profiles will not only tell you what fighters you can expect to see in the next iteration of Midway's competitive slugger, but also, the history of that character and how they came to be in the first place.

he's dead...how can a dead character be playable? that wouldn't make much of a sense, and yes you can call him kombatant because he is a fighter, and he's in deception, but not playable because he dies in the intro. It would be stupid making raiden lost his powers in almost every game, I think they made the right decision by killing him in an heroic way.
