He's my favourite character and for what i understand he have very important and useful role in the sotry line,a honor that he doesn't have since MK2.
I have to make just a question:what YOU thing about Cage(please no vulgar or offense)?
I knwo that he definitely is one of the most hated, but what you think if he alongside Kenshi and Sonya will survive to Armageddon and maybe will be the next gen main hero?
In other words it's better:
Liu Kang(or Kung Lao) with Kitana or
Johnny Cage and Sonya
for protagonist?

I've no real problem with Johnny Cage, but my interest in seeing him in a central protagonist role is absolutely nil. He's a side character and it's too late to establish him as a central hero. Even if he suddenly starts to take things seriously (which I assume is what's happening in Armageddon), I just don't buy it. I don't buy him being the one to destroy the big evil.
I think they should build a new main hero for the next generation...but do it carefully and not force him on us from out of nowhere like they did with Shujinko. If an established character is to become the new "main hero" it should be either Kung Lao or Sub-Zero.
Sub-Zero's good because he's a well-developed character who naturally grew into the "hero" role. He also has good potential depth, being a former assassin and not just a typical "goody-goody" hero. Kung Lao's good because he is (or was at least) reluctant to be the hero so his journey to fill Liu Kang's place would be more interesting and have more potential depth.
At this point though, I think Sub-Zero would probably be the better choice because they all but cut Kung Lao's balls off in Deception and now they're pusing this idiotic "Kung Lao is jealous of Liu Kang" garbage.
In a nutshell: either Sub-Zero, someone new, or maybe Kung Lao.
As for main heroine, Kitana suits the role much better than Sonya. While Sonya is fairly well-developed, Kitana has more potential depth due to her once being evil and her backstory (like Sub-Zero). She also has more direct ties to prominant villains. I also think she's more believable as a "chosen one" type of character.
But with that said, I think both are due to retire after Armageddon. If they want a new "main heroine" they should work on building up Li Mei or Jade or maybe even Sareena...or just introduce a brand new one.

I actually like Johnny Cage a lot as an MK character. He provides MK with a comic relief that many don't appreciate, and he hasn't got too bad of a storyline: it's undoubtedly much better than some MK characters out there (ahemdrahminhsuhaoahem).
About his MK:A possibilities:
Yes, it definately sounds like he's gonna be more important than everyone might have anticipated in MKA. It's great to see him take such a big initiative in uniting the "light warriors" (there's no un-corny way to name the heroes, is there?). I'm looking forward to his bio and to getting some more insight on what has brought him to this position and where it goes from there.
Now, Cage as next-gen's main hero might be pushing it a bit too far, IMO. When it comes to serious storylines like MK has, a more comical character just doesn't make for a main guy. There's a formula in these kinds of things, where the main hero of something like MK has to be a solemn guy focused mostly on evil, etc. Johnny's a fun character, and although he does worry about the villains, it took him a while to take it as serious as he is taking it now.
As for Sonya as a main heroine: I think she's been that for quite a while now, alongside Kitana. These two girls have been in the most games and have played the most important female roles in the storylines so far. Granted I definately would like to see Sonya get upgraded even further, to the point where all of her potential is used (I've said this a million times, and never get tired of repeating it). For next-gen, assuming she returns (which is likely, granted she has a lot of fans, is a fave of Boon's, and Boon's hinted at her return), I want to see her kick even more ass than before. Leave the evil-organization-hunter image a little on the background, and have her play a more important role in bringing down bigger guys - make some connections between her and the main villains of the game, and show her as the lead MK fem that she's been meant to be since MK1.
Those are my 2 cents on what you've mentioned, lastfighter.

I agree with everything XiahouDun84 said.
Hopefully they don't randomly make him the big spotlight that destroys evil. It doesn't suit him at all IMO; even though he's a good guy, I look at him as someone who'd help out in situations, but not conquer. IMO Someone to do that best would be Sub-Zero or Ermac.

Something tells me that when onaga took over his body something changed in him and maybe hes gotten a new attitude.

Johnny Cage is my favorite character. He clearly progressed from a action movie star to a hero. I didn't enjoy the second movie 'cause he died at the very start ... and the rest of the movie just sucked. He was so cool in the first movie. I like his attitude and his over-confidence. I think this character is really under-estimated, just see the awesome part in Shaolin Monks when you defeat Goro and Cage joins in and does his Fatality, it rocked too much ! He's now a hero fighting for the good side. I can see him as the main character of a game along with Sonya and Jax. I hope he'll be there in the next games and won't die ... again.
"Let's dance" - Cage

Hey, who gives a shit if he dies in armageddon, hes still gonna come back alive again anyway! lol! theres no stopping cage!!!
but yeah i think Johnny being the big hero is a great idea!.... sort of... i think... i just really hope he returns in the next gen... but at the same time... i highly doubt it!... : (

hmmm for Xiandou:totally agree!I think, howver that Cage could be a very good character if midway choose to get goro killed by the movie superstar.
I hope also that Cage will kill some other important evil character,Moloch or Motaro for example.I think that all Shokan must die(even tough Kintaro have great potential).
I think that you're rght:Cage is not a credible protagonist. However my idea was:
Cage and Sonya are opposite each other and they could have a potential relationship.it makes sense have pair of heroes in love!I just ike the idea.
However i think that the main hero should be Kenshi or a totally new character.I hope also that Kung Lao die(too similar to Liu Kang) and Liu Kang become the new earthrealm protector.(low chance that it will happen!).Howevre i don't like actualy Sub Zero,i like his storyline until mk4.
without scorpion in his storyline he's just a "common" character, just like Scorpion...
for the others:i really hope Cage survive just to see how midway wil develop his character.
I agree with who thinks that after Onaga's control Cage is changed.
Maybe he understood his limits?!?
will cage survive to Armageddon?
How he understood that Shinnok has resurfaced?

dn't agree with you chrome:Johnny Cage isn't Superficial( even tough is slated in his Armageddon ending) and for his natural temper he isn't neither vane,over-confident,bigheaded or cocky. He was just a young who was trained by martial art masters from all around the world.
After he starts his hollywood career he were boosed and offended by critics,so he uses his vanity for defend himself and don't loss trust in himself.
In truth he is a great warrior with the greatest potential after Liu Kang(at least this is how is described in the first game and firt movie).
He just like talk well about himself and sunglasses. He uses his atittude and his personality only like a shield against his enemies.

I agree, there is alot more to Johnny Cage that you have to dig deep down to see. I never considered Cage to be the main hero at all in any of the Mortal Kombat games, however I do see him having the same potential as the character that was the main hero Liu Kang. In the first game I loved how the two paired up and they both represented two different things. Cage represent west, Liu Kang represented east. Liu Kang was a pure soul, while Cage followed the American way.
I loved Cage's character because he is more than just a supporting character. Out of all the main heroes that represent Earthrealm I consider Cage to be in the Top 6.
1. Liu Kang
2. Sub-Zero
3. Kung Lao
4. Sonya
5. Johnny Cage
6. Jax

he's alright...i just can't stnad characters who are full of themselves, when imo Kang totally overshadows him in strength, character, etc. No offense against you, though.

You essentially rehearsed what I have stated in two sentences.

I like JC.
he's one of my favorite characters.
However, him as the main hero is a bleh idea.
He's the comic releif. You need a much more serious hero.

As much as I like Cage as a character, I don't see him being the leader.
He's perfect as a sidekick, a good friend of the protagonist, or simply the typical funny guy, but not the main hero.
Kung Lao's chance to fill Liu Kang's position was MKDA... and died... so I don't want him as the hero.
I want Taven... and I want him to have the same attitude as in MKA:
"I'm the hero because I'm pushed to it".

sorry abismo, but for what i know (and think) i believe that we'll never see Taven or Daegon again.
however i think that we need a pair routagonist and if possible a woman and a man:Liu Kang/Kung Lao and Kitana are too used now,Jade haven't a male partner,Kenshi havent a female partner,Sub Zero and frost are no more togheter,Jax,Stryker and Nightwolf will die with 90% of probabilty(no more use for them in the storyline).
Who remain?
Johnny Cage and Sonya:maybe taking them for once,it's not a good idea, but if they're considered in pair?

I never really thought Johnny Cage fit in with the rest of the cast... he's more like an outlier compared to the other kombatants in my opinion.

He clearly progressed from a action movie star to a hero.
I'm agree with that state. Ok Cage is my Fav character. For his special move to his storyline, from MK1 to MKA. Just hope this super character will be back in next gen MK.
Johnny Cage has always been my second favorite guy. He was my number one favorite character when the first Mortal Kombat came out, but since MKII, Sub-Zero has taken that place. Still, I love Johnny Cage, he's absolutely awesome. I think it would be VERY interesting to see him become the new lead, but I think Kung Lao and Sub-Zero are ahead on the list.

really i think that cage have carisma...he is cool...no Kool!
i like his moves and he have a lot of potential:let hm be in next gen games!

My problem with Johnny Cage simply lies in that his story and character haven't gotten much development. YES, there is of course more to him that his cocky, egotistical exterior. However, that doesn't say much considering how his inner self hasn't really been explored. I don't think he's meant to be a main hero nor do I think he has any potential to become the main hero for this game or any of the next-gen MKs. He simply doesn't have much going for him due to the lack of development.
Take a look at Bo' Rai Cho. Like Johnny Cage, he is a joke character. However, unlike Johnny Cage, we see that he has real story development and that we can see in the story itself how he's not just some drunk, old fat guy with bad manners, but a wise and skilled hero who simply wants his home to be free of evil tyrannts like Shao Kahn.
While I wouldn't like to see Johnny Cage in the next-gen MKs, I hope that with Johnny Cage's MKA bio that we'll see good character development for a change. What bothers me is how Kenshi's bio seems to imply that Johnny Cage is leading the heroes which is strange since Kitana's MKU ending implies that Kitana will be the one to lead the heroes, especially since she crossed paths with Blaze.

I like him a little bit, the booster gold character of MK lol.
Anyway, he's pretty good but nobody uses him often online sadly.

hmmm i like Bo' Rai Cho he is one of my fav characters, however i think that neither him have a great storyline.
In Da the only role he has was teach one or two moves to earthrealm heroes.
in mkDeception he saves Li Mei(how he saved her?) and start a feud with Tarkatans.
Considering that Baraka dies or it' mentioned in a ton of endings,i really don't see that Bo Rai Cho have a great storyline.
My belief is:the importance of a character's storyine depends by his fights durin all the saga.Very important characters have at least one or two "CANON" fights.
Bo Rai cho haven't canon fghts in his storyline,so i consider him a mid important charctaer.
However he appears in only three games(four considering TE).
About Cage we dn't know if he fights against other warriors during MK2,MKTrilogy,MK4 and DA.
I hope that Cage survive because he have style and charisma. And if we want a pair of heroes he and sonya fits the role better than other characters.

Cage is an awsome character, but his chances of being The main hero are rather low.
He only has the sidekick qualities, Acting Is a well known skill that he posseses, a quality that can only be usefull maybee if he wanted to get out of a sticky situation, thats the sort of thing a sidekick would be able to do to help the Leading Character.....in Cages case Liu kang.
