Nice variation/update of her basic design. And no hair bun = aces.

They may be referring to it as a "render" but i can tell you now that it's not. It will probably be the only official character art they release of Kitana, but if you compare the detail to the other renders, it is def a photoshop-painted image. You can tell by the softness of the work and on the shading and the outlines, which in the other renders is much sharper.

The shading and the texture are much less detailed than the other official renders that have been released. All the other character renders seem to be the same as their in game models, so my theory is that Kitana's in game model has yet to be completed.

Probably, but the image is referred to as "render" on the official site, so yeah... not really much choice in the matter.

Looks like the Retro Ninja costume in the female section of KAK, but Kitana still looks hot.

Now with the High Res version of Kitana, I like it even more, her face looks great, her eyes look amazing. At least her breasts aren't popping out everywhere. She looks like a woman, and even if her look isn't completely new, Im satisfied. Why change something thats already good.

All the renders haven't been touched up in Photoshop. That's what they do. It's just a matter of some more than others.

The rainbow is there because of the waterfall most likely.

I was a bit worried about the over design of her one piece but now seeing the hi-res version I am very happy with her design. She looks soft and elegant. The subtle floral patterns are a very nice touch and her breasts aren't hanging out which is a plus for me.

The irony is you'll never be able to make out the floral pattern in the actual game, no matter how awesome your TV is.

Ordinarilly, I'd agree. But given the context of this game...with characters being chosen for their "iconic" nostalgia power...what was to be expected? What they did with Kitana here isn't that different than Scorpion, Liu Kang, Sonya, or Sub-Zero.

Now if this were the next regular Mortal Kombat game and she was still wearing this....then we'd have an issue.

Personally, I wouldn't want her to be drastically re-invented. I have always loved the ninja look, and her mask, and couldn't picture her without it. I don't mind repetition in looks, if its something that I like and works. I guess thats why I really love Street Fighter, regardless if their characters have remained the same for the past 15+ years now? The only one that comes to mind that had a bit of an update was Cammy but that was during the Alpha series.

Anyways, in the end, Im pleased. Seems to me that she's the only female so far, who isn't overly sexualized.

Seriously though...no. You still won't see it. I've seen Flash in Klose Kombat and he didn't look like he was covered in fur, the way he does in his render. The littlest of the texture details just don't translate.
And in most cases, I'd say that's for the better, and that it's why the in-game footage looks better than the renders do.
