The MK characters are "true to MK", but the game itself is not part of current canon including Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. If anything, it could be considered an "alternate universe".
I'm probably one of those few people that consider this awesome (best of yet) news. They can finally refocus on the original storyline, answer alot of questions; properly continue after MKA.
I think making MKvsDC non-canon is a great way to go.
