MK: Shaolin Monks Nominated for Spike TVs Video Game Awards!

GameSpot is reporting that Spike TV has announced their nominees for the 2005 edition of their Video Game Awards show, and among the nominees is Midway's popular action/adventure game, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks! From the article:

Spike TV's Video Game Awards show is returning this year, and it's bringing some actors, rappers, and rockers with it. The 2005 edition of the awards show will take place Friday, November 18 in Los Angeles. The show praises the best in the business, as voted on by industry vets, and is accompanied by celebrities and musicians.

Fight Night Round 2 (Electronic Arts)
Soul Calibur III (Namco Hometek Inc.)
Tekken 5 (Namco Hometek Inc.)
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (Capcom)
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (Midway)

Strangely enough, even though Midway bills MK: Shaolin Monks as an action/adventure title, it's listed under the category for "BEST FIGHTING GAME" instead of "BEST ACTION GAME". This may, however, be just a result of MK:SM's versus mode and/or Spike TV assuming it was a standard tournament fighter based on previous MK games. We'll be keeping an eye on this story; when we learn more, we'll report it here!

As much as I want Tekken 5 to win it'll probably be Soul Calibur 3, ah well.

The spike video game awards are a joke, they always have been. when ever an awards show puts more emphasis on music and women (although that part is nice) than the subject of the show, then I see that as a failure.

I remember last years show when I was looking to see the winner of the fighting game catagory, which was MK, only to be shown a short clip of the game and something saying winner. that was dumb and you'd never see that any where else.

The fact that MKSM was nominated for best fight says alot about how this years show is gonna be.

My money's on Soul Calibur 3. I just bought this game TODAY, and I'm still can't stop playing it.

For one, its gameplay is superb (I wish I could say the same about MKD). And, its storyline totally beats the crap out of MKSM's.

So yeah...Soul Calibur 3, it is.

Emphasised by the fact that they elevate MK to much higher standards than anybody else. I suspect it has something to do with Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone having strong ties to both Midway and Spike TV, as reported by IGN. A little favour perhaps. Or perhaps the people at Spike TV are just stupid, which is probably the most likely answer.

Afterall, MKSM isn't even in the same genre as the rest of the nominee's, it's not even a fighting game. What the hell?

I bet the ppl at spike tv even played MkSm really before they put it as one of the nominees, i bet they just seen Mk and said ah what the hell is Mk it has to be fighting, just so they can slap a show together real fast to show off the celebs n stuff for ratings. I hope MkSm doesnt win, dont get me wrong i love Mk more then any game but not MkSm. MkD deserved it last year, that game was the shit at the time

I think it's between Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 3.

But I've been playing soul calibur today and I think it's a lot more developed than Tekken5.

More story, more stages, more overall stuff and the game play is amazing.

I'm guessing SC3 is going to win this year.

MKSM doesnt even belong on the list.

All the awards are weird.

King Kong isn't even out yet. and Probably won't be out be the time the awards ceremony happens. How Lame is that? There are others as well. This is all a marketing thing, not an awards show.

Yeah, I'm behind MK all the way, but I wouldn't be disappointed if SC3 or T5 takes it, since MK:SM isn't really a fighting game, nor was it created to be one.

Makes as much sense as Mario in a 1st-Person Shooter category.

Haha, i still dont get why MKSM is in the fighting category. Anyway, i hope Soul Calibur 3 wins. Its easily one of the best and addicting games out there.

Very odd. Very odd indeed.

My explaination for this is they they are using past experience to predict what the game is like, they never played the game, & they know nothing about Mythologies or Special Forces. When will they ever learn? I hope they fix this......... Wait. Scratch that. The chaos & confusion will be quite entertaining, he he he he
