MK VS DC OXM Review 8.5
My main concern with mk vs dc is that it is going to be a "party game" with shallow gameplay and not much replay value. I played mk 1,2,3, and 4 each pretty much until the next one was released.
mkda, mkd, and mka not so much. I liked them each well enough, especially mkd but they just were not as fun as the previous games.
Soul Calibur doesn't have to change their game play except for a few tweaks with each new installment because it is near perfect (especially when stacked against the last 3 mk games) and feels right.
I also love most of the characters and those are why I play Soul Calibur. Same with mk. I want 90% of the roster to return each time because they are the reason I play mk. I love the characters. I don't understand why a certain segment of the fan base (no offense intended) complain when old characters return. If you don't like the mk cast, why not just play a different game altogether?

yeah soul calibur does have great gameplay. if they changed it to drastically they wouldn't have any fans.
and as far as characters...well we've seen how fans react when they bring in new characters. just look for posts about MKDA-MKD characters.
but still a 8.5 is good but i cannot trust reviewers with MK games.

I don't trust reviews. I'll try it myself.
You know, if this game is a TRUE 8.5, then I believe it's a MUST HAVE for EVERY MK fan. This really made me breathe a sigh of relief. I believe we can definately trust reviewers on this game, simply because I'm sure they realized the mistake they made by overhyping (and over rating) MK:A. Keep in mind, another good reason MKA was ranked so high was it's replayability and it's online features.
But if this game is an 8.5, it's going to be great. Remember, MKA is pretty old, it's not like that game came out just yesterday, and reviewers have been getting more and more anal every day.
I'm actually hopeful about this game, the more I see, the more I like. That doesn't mean that I am going to be a mindless fan, like many others. I'll do my RANT : Part 2 and admit if I was wrong and jumped the gun, or say HAHA I TOLD YOU SO if it sucks.
We will see. The 16th.. Rant 2... it's coming.
But as a harsh critic of this game, I will tell you:
I'm actually a little excited with the more I see. I'm not even bothered by the watered down fatalities. I think they're better than most we've seen since MK2, to be honest. Sure, gore would be nice, but this isn't bad. I LIKE the idea, and all the fatalities look F-in' brutal.
Seriously.
I'm psyched.

A 7/10 for Soul Calibur 4 was kinda generous if you ask me.
Problem with the SC series is, the gameplay never changes, the roster never changes (outside of pointless cameos), even the storyline moves at a snail's pace. If you already own 2 or 3, It's literally like buying the same game more than once.
I believe the technical term for that is "ripoff".

The ironic thing about this message is that Soul Calibur IV has the largest gameplay change in the series.
By removing the Soul Charge and adding in a damage system, the Soul Crush/Critical Finishers and the RPG style skills system, means that its a pretty big change from Soul Calibur 3.
But ultimately I am a SCIV whore. Without reading the SCIV review and seeing the comments they made about MK Vs DCU, they marked down games based on their lack of "extras". So why the fuck did DOA4 get a 9/10?
Anyway, It might be good news that MK Vs DC did get that high of a review score compared to that competition but then previous MKs have got good reviews from various mags and that never stopped them being disappointing.

For all wondering about the8.5 compared to Armageddon's 9.0, look no further than their "bad" portion of the game. Armageddon had a shit ton of content compared to this game. But in my mind, this will definatly exceed Armageddon in every other category.
