I was thinking of the Ghostbusters game that was almost completely cancelled, now is planned to be released in June.

I don't believe Ghostbusters was ever in real danger of being cancelled.
See, Activision acquired the studio making it, but they didn't want to put it out themselves because Activision is a bunch of cheap bastards who won't release anything unless it has the potential to be exploited for sequel after sequel every year like Guitar Hero and WoW Expansions.
But the game was almost done already when the merger happened, so SOMEONE was always going to step in and offer to release it because the production costs had already been spent and it was never a business risk.
The reason we have to wait until June for the game to come out even though it's done and ready now is because they decided the 25th anniversary of the movie's release was the best time from a marketting standpoint.

VG Chartz isn't exactly the most reliable source. They've been proven wrong plenty of time (these aren't official numbers, more like estimates). When the NPD gets released, VGC changes their numbers to match the official ones.
Here's an example. The Sim's Exchange has the PS3 version at 111,819 for the first week, compared to VG Chartz's 81,000 (the 105,000 is both North America and Europe, or at least the UK's, first week sales combined).
It seems, apparently at least, that MK vs DCU is off to a solid start, but you really can't be sure of just how strong a start unless Midway does a press release or the NPD hits in early December.

True, but they're usually in the ball park about the numbers.
This is indeed a great sign for the game. For midway....well, it's a child sized life preserver for an overweight swimmer.
May the game go on to sell a million plus...

This is actually quite bad news. These are really low numbers. im sorry but if you compare it to even Armageddon, these numbers are about half of what armageddon sold in its first week and about 1/3 rd of what deception managed. Remember deception and DA both went on to sell over 2 million copies, i think 1 million mc vs dc is stretching it. plus it cost like 3 times to develop and market. Midway needed this to be a huge hit.
These are NOT good numbers. I use VGcharts alot, they tend to be pretty much on the ball.

Does that include the Kollector's Edition?!
That doesn't sound particularly good. How does it measure up to a cross section of other contemporary releases (in their first weeks)?

Nah wait a minute !
Who told you that MKA did sell half a million in the first week ?
Also who told you that MKD did sell 2 millions ?
MKA hardly sold around 1 million .MKD did sell only 1.6 millions it was MKDA which sold over 2 millions copies .
Now consedring that this is the first week for the pal version as well as the number of people getting it in christmas .I think that it did good .
You know these days you cant compare a fighting game to a FPS or TPS .Fighting games became more of a fans service after all .

Do you know what TheSimExchange is? It's a fake/simulated gaming stock market. All numbers are just "predictions" based on how many fake stocks the users buy...Nothing is real.

At the time of Armageddon, there were 90 million PS2 users. For MKvsDC, there are only 17 million PS3 users. Did you think about that? Huh? Obviously not...

I wonder how factors like global economics and the fact that we are on the road to holiday shopping might effect things too. I don't know if we should necessarily expect anything similar to regular trends, but I'd be interested to know what December figures look like in previous years.
Could some target consumers - particularly of a T rated MK/DC game - be being represented by later sales? Could economically concerned consumers be buying later than usual?
It'll be very interesting to see if/how DLC effects longevity of the sales, too.
Not an especially impressive start, particularly if you venture to compare sales with the only other major franchise released (Soul Calibur), but probably a bit soon to be all doom and gloom about the future of MK.

By the fact that MK doesnt sell in Japan and some Asian Countries I think that it is just doing more than great .
You should just wait for the christmas and see .
I just wonder when will the mad people who want to see MK dead will stop cursing the game .

Deadly Alliance and Deception both sold over 2 million. Shoalin Monks and Armageddon both sold over a million.
Deception did 1.9 million as of early/mid 2005. It went on to break 2 million in sales. Deadly Alliance went as high as 3.2 million.
As for The Sims Exchange, my point we don't know anything yet. Nothing official has been released. Either way for Midway to do a press release or wait for November's NPD numbers.
VG Chartz is a horrible site that has been wrong a million times over. The Sims Exchange isn't official either, but I'd rather soon take their word over VGC. That's what I was trying to say.
[EDIT]
http://www.midway.com/us/pr/mpr_3602.html
That's a press release stating Deception sold 1.9 by May 2005.
http://www.midway.com/us/pr/mpr_5456.html
That's a press release saying Armageddon shipped more than one million units as of January 2007.
http://retro.ign.com/articles/919/919357p8.html
That's IGN's History of MK feature. If you read the Deception, Shaolin Monks, and Armageddon sections it states that each went one to sell 2 million, 1 million, and 1 million respectfully.

there's no way those numbres are right. There is so much enthusiasm for this game; it's the first MK since Deadly Alliance where I've heard people actually talking about it at school.

In Person, all I've heard is enthusiasm, but MKO is a whole nother story.

These really aren't good sales figures if they are correct. Gears 2 has sold like over 2 million copies already.

lol MKO doesn't count i was speaking more in person too. a lot of my friends are off of mortal kombat since deception so they pretty much let this one go over their heads. oracle Wrote:

just as well, they couldn't play anyway.
My entire school is full of fighting game fans, but they're still playing Soul Calibur IV and Tekken 5 (and Street Fighter II HD Remix) instead of MK vs DC, so I don't know if that counts for anything.
Those aren't BAD numbers, but they're not GOOD either. A few people probably rightly assumed that with so many good titles on the market, a few games would take a hit, like Banjo-Kazooie, Mirror's Edge, and Mortal Kombat vs DCU, while big hitters like Resistance, Gears of War, Fallout 3, Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, and Fable 2 soaked up most of the gamer's money.
