MK6 needs TRUE hidden characters
MK6 needs TRUE hidden characters

I mean hidden characters in the vein of mk1 and mk2. I dont want to unlock them by beating the game with certain characters or purchasing them with Kredits. I like how how you can access them in mk1 and mk2 where you have to meet specific criteria on a certain stage or a put in button sequence at the right time during gameplay. Then when you beat the hidden character (maybe 1 flawless round too) it opens him up on the character select screen. MK6's hidden fighters should also drop in and give hints to there whereabouts like in previous MKs.

The hidden charcaters also need incentives to fight them! Like a specific background and original moves and fatalities.

kinda cool but oldschool.

SO then what's the problem

I agree,
I think that MK has been loosing it's mysticism. Almost everything just in front of your face, and there just seems to be a lack of depth.

But it is a good idea... For example, you're given this hint: "I shall be the last petrified." And then, on a level, where there are a lot of statues, like interactive, breakable, you have to break the last one, or like a certain one, and because of that, the character like... Pops out of the statue, and runs off, then you're given another hint like "Look for me...." Well, whatever... U know what I mean tho... Like you really have to work to get that secret character... Also, that will increase the demand to play the game... People will keep entertained longer, you know? And then you still have to beat the game with THAT character, and that expands the story line... It doesn't have to take a lot of memory to keep the game long... U know?

I agree that MK6 needs true hidden characters and secrets. That's one of the things that killed MK:DA is that after you got all the characters, stages, and alternate costumes there was nothing left. The pictures were okay the first time you saw them. But they got old really quick. And with no secrets there is no reason to keep playing. The only people who probably truely still have fun with this game all the time are those that have other people to play.

no, I still have fun playing it, alone... But you're right I'm probably like 1 in 100...

If you ask me, there should be cast enough large to do all of these things. Have some available at the end of a sub-game, like Konquest.
Have some available to purchase/or unlock after beating the game.
Then have a couple that have to be unlocked with special tricks and clues, like the old MK games.
After the likes of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, or outside, Capcom VS SNK - I really need to see more characters!

Hinting is good. Maybe unlocking certain character to get online mode which to get new hidden character with newer hints.

You might see a secret character in the crowd, and if you do something special like meet a task like in VF4 Evolution, the secret character would come from the crowd, and challenge you.
-------------------------------------------------
For those who don't know, in VF4Evolution, when you play arcade mode, before some of the matches you will be asked to perform a special task. For example: Perform 6 throws, Don't get knocked down 4 times, win with a perfect, etc. If you are successful with the task, you are awarded items for character edit mode.
--------------------------------------------
Another idea is to have a stormy stage, and when lightning crashes, you press start, and you get to fight Rain.
His clue could be "Watch the storm"
Another hint is "Start with lightning"

How about you have to first find the secret characters, then beat them in battle more than once to obtain them?
Or, they simply become playable after a certain button combination is pressed at the character select screen?

i like the idea of hidden characters in stages... it could really be interesting if you had to use certain characters to get them.. like if the charater was stuck in a statue you had to break the statue.. thats a sick idea.... or what if all the hidden characters have already been defeated by other fighters in tournaments hundreds of years ago... like the dead army in MKDA... put the soul back in the dead char and they come back to life... its hard to work out the details but it would be cool if you could summon back fallen fighters.

You all have great ideas...I would love to see more mystery like the old MK's...find button combo's to unlock thing, UKK's, "Toasty!", etc....the problem is, a week before the game even comes out, all the codes, fatalities, and all that fun stuff will be on the net here...the next MK game, I'm gonna do my best to avoid those sites and such...which means i'm gonna have to stick to General Discussion on this forum, but it's worth it to me, after all I'm here cause I'm an MK nut...Boon really needs to keep a tight lid on this one tho...no codes should hit the net until months after the game comes out like UMK3, not weeks before like MKDA...

Your whole idea is pretty cool and all but Midway is trying to revolutionize the game by coming up just new ways then finding the character to unlock him. In every fighting game thats what they do. A true hidden character needs something new something no other game has done. Thats what MK is famous for.

I think they've learned their lesson, and are also probably feeling more confident. Offering all the information they did for MKDA ensured people knew something big was happening, and ensured they knew they'd want this new Mortal Kombat video game.
Now that they're certain everyone remembers Mortal Kombat, and understand that it's still about kicking arse, even more so then ever, I think they'll keep their cards closer to their chest.
We're hooked again, and they'll use that!

Hidden Characters? I agree with whoever said That Break A Statue and the Character Comes out theory.
But they need to have Hidden Characters not in the Krypt, like say On a stage, If you do something like Fall of the edge of the arena and it doesn't have spikes at the bottom, but more like a Deep Hole, it could lead to another stage. Then a Secret Character, say... Fujin, will fight you, his A.I. will be Very Hard. So if you beat him in 2 rounds and do a Fatality on him, you'll Unlock Fujin.
That is the kind of system I wish to have on it.
