Honestly, I thought the new MK was lacking originality....the characters were kind of corny. Then I played soul calibur and thought this kind of game would have made a GREAT MK!!!
I think the new MK should be a little more like soul calibur, with weird twisted characters like voldo or astaroth, like it was before, in mk2.

I would defenitly hope not, because then mk would turn into soul caliber.
By the way, if there were any advances in sould caliber, it is because it was realeased way ahead of mkda. I suppose comparing mk6 to soul caliber 2 wouldnt be fair would it? Anyways, mk was the first fighting game to put facial scars in a game, I guess soul caliber forgot to put that in? Oh well, next time.

2 bad the facial scars looked like shit, MKDA is a great game but u cant really compare it to Soul Caliber 2, just different styles. although i still like SC better.

Tao Feng had facial scarz, as well as the rest of the body. You must have PS2 and not XBOX, since Tao Feng made it only to XBOX. ummm...O.K. I'll stop now because my point is invalid.
APOLOGIEZ
MKV released Nov. 21
Tao Feng released Feb./Mar.
now... Tao Feng was the first game to have full body damage? That makez more centz (:P
stay TwiztiD!

Well, I was more into mk for the awesome characters and original gameplay elements that I had never seen before. I'm into soul caliber because it's fun as hell. I wouldn't really want to change or imitate either with the other.

I've never played Soul Edge/Soul Calibur 1-2. But in that series, Aren't you stuck with the weapon?
In Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, You got to switch between two fighting styles and weapon. I say that's VERY original. Infact, I loved it!

I've been playing Tekken and Soul Calibur series for a long time now. Namco knows how to make a good 3d fighting game. Also,as for the Soul Calibur 2,the variety of moves and combos, different angle grabbings, ring outs and awsome graphics made it a very unique and enjoyable game. I think Soul Calibur 2 cannot even be compared to MKDA. However, I believe Midway can and will improve on the weapon mode and make it as deep/enjoyable as Soul Calibur 2.

NOBNONO~!!!! U got me all wrong!!! I'm not saying soul calibur is better!!! NO WAY!!! Most of the characters are a bunch or bruce lee guys or super agile girls, WHAT i'm saying is that mk5 AS AN EXEPTION did not had a lot of good new characters, and that SC had some 3D characters (ONLY voldo, astaroth and Ivy) that were really nice, and they reminded me of the style MK2 had, and they should base characters in the old MK2 style (weird ninjas was overused... but something along those lines)

Maybe u mistyped this or sumthing, but wouldent MK be the cartoony one and the one with horrible fighting (although i thought it was good fighting, just it could hold nothing to SC)

nope
i meant soul calibur
i've played it a few times on the gamecube and couldn't stand it
just a bunch of button mashing to win the fights. the game is so easy and the fighting is so lame and everyone looks like a cartoon.
maybe thats just how it looks on the gamecube

i agree with mr.satan.
you could get good on soul calibur way faster than you can in mkda. just a bunch of button smashing. not to mention mk's storyline is better.

Then learn the damn moves by going to practice mode. And Soul Calibur 2 had a way better game type other than konquest. The Weapon Master mode is kick-ass.

I've never liked that many fighting games. Before MK I played street fighter in the early 90s. Once MK came out in 1992 it was the only fighting game I could ever care for. Few games have come close in my mind to ever match MK, in fact the only fighting game seris to me that I ever liked just as much as MK is KI. I have SC2 on this gamecube demo disc to me its ok, but not as enjoyable to any MK game. I am not saying that SC2 bad, its just isn't my style of fighting game. To me MK is much more fast pace than SC2. With MK: DA being my fav MK and fav fighting game and with MK6 going to be( I have this feeling that MK6 is going to own all) far better than MK: DA I would buy MK6 over SC any day.

Yeah, Sc2 (no matter how many moves you know how to execute) seems to boil down to just random moves. It can be fun to play people, but I can't stand the button-mashing-ness of it!
Hmmm i'll just hold this direction, hit the B button 50 times, then another direction and mash on this button.
Though I do like Nightmare from SC. He is VERY fluid with that huge sword. I will give props to Namco for the way he plays on their engine. But I would be able to tear him up with almost ANY DA character if it were ever possible to play a cross-game match.

Ussualy, yes, mk had AWSOME storyline, but tobias left, and the new storyline SUCKED ASS
SC is like a 3d version of MK2... THAT's Why I like it, I HATE the new system MKDA had!!! It did NOT feel like an mk

I hear yeah on that one. Namco has always been good with their fighting games. But SC and MKDA are so different that you really cannot compare thaem.

It's not really fair comparing MK6 to SC because MK6 hasn't been released yet. Let me say this: I like both series, but I prefer MK because they add new stuff to the gameplay experience in one form or another. SC2 was a great fighter, but it lacked evolution and some other things. I'm not saying that MK: DA is the better fighter of the 2, nor I'm saying that SC2 is the better fighter of the 2. I wouldn't want MK to be more like SC because then, it would lose it's originality.

Do you know how many games i hear people say they want similar? There was one on limb damage or maiming limbs like Teo Fang. There was one with a meter to change into animals( though not mentioned similar to) like bloody Roar. I see where your going Sub-zero 7th. With any of these idea's add, it would not only ruin the mood, but alos how mortal kombat works.

well i do love both of the games, but i love them in different way, i loved MK for its great characters, storyline and of coarse the fatalities. but i luv SC for the fluid gameplay and the sheer bulk of moves. MK story wise is much better but to me gameplay wise SC takes the take. and as for the button mashing comments if u refrain from mashing the buttons and implament the startegy (offense as well as defense it can be much better.) i went into practice and found moves that would benifit my character in sertain situations and learned them so that in a clutch situation if i was facing someone mashing the buttons i would know a way to counter and defeat them. but now im just rambling

Mortal Kombat is much better than Soul Calibur, it's original enough and needs not to take something from SC. I say, leave it as it is, but make characters like Baraka, Sheeva, Motaro and Drahmin in all the future MK games.

It's a little too hardcore in here. .
Soul Calibur 2 is just the better game, coming from an honest non biased opinion about the two games. The MK gameplay should aspire to be more fluid and "comfortable".
Mortal Kombat has so so so much potential thats going to waste. Hopefully Midway will be able to keep up with the already stiff competition.
