mortal kombat back to 2d?
I don't want to start an arguement, but I am sure that they won't go back to 2d, and I hope they never will. If they did, they wouldn't be able to compete with the graphics of games like the Tekken series. I know, its more than just the graphics. But do you really want all 5 colored ninjas that all look alike back again? No, I like diversity myself. With improved graphics, (3D) that is possible. And as far as MK2 having more secrets than MKDA... well I don't know. MKDA does have the Krypt, which can make the game's replay value high, provided you don't use the koin cheat of course. The secret characters in MK2 were only Scorpion clones, wow. It was nice at the time, but not anymore. Blaze may not have his own moves, but at least he has an original look to him. And so does Mokap, even though I think he sucks. Anyway, I don't think there is anything to worry about, because 3D is here people. All I have to say is you better get used to it.

It may work, it sucked for War Gods (which was almost 3D and it used digitized actors), but it may work now considering modern technological developements.

THis game essentially IS Digitized, they used mtion capture tech, as we all know due to Mokap, other than the fact that the models they used had skins that were not Photographically detailed they're the best your likely to get!
it's impressive actually the charcter models are quite high poly and the skins are high detailed, not quite to the level of UT2003 engine but not far off!
Too digitise someone in 3d is i imagine quite impossible, a 2d image is easy, record someone punching forward from one side infront of a blue screen, in 3d, int heory they would have to record every movement and action from every single angle, also to do it the way you want, the'd have to do that once for every character, it's just not a sensible way to go!
However they COULD, make a model of a person, use photo realistic skins and then use motion capture in the same way again, however photo realistic skins, = photo realistic backgrounds, photo = realistic blood, it would lose it's fantastical edge and thus be very likely band!
Censors don't like to see realistic people have their spines removed from a multitude of different angles!

I think that MK6 should be 2d...3d might make for more better graphics and moves, but graphics arent what makes the game...its the gameplay!!!
2D..I'm telling you...think about it, its more fun. I hplayed MK Trilogy far more than I have played any MK game...MKDA was cool but the gameplay couldn't ever measure up to the frantic 2D mayham of the old 2D.

You are kidding I hope. The gameplay of MKDA is not what I see everyone complaining about. Would you rather have all the charcters able to perform the same punches/kicks. Or would you like to see everyone have 3 DIFFERENT styles of kombat? MKDA's gameplay is nearly perfect I believe, far better than any 2D game.

Exactly! Alot of new players (people who haven't been with MK since the beginning) may not fully understand the whole MK 'feeling' but this is exactly what I think too... I like MK:DA and 3D is good and all, but it doesn't have that MK feel to it that was prevelant in MK1-3 and even a little in 4.
I am not a 'new' gamer or whatever. I have played MK since the very beginning. This game has the MK 'feel' to me. Well, if that is the best reasons you can come up with for disliking MKDA or saying it doesn't seem like MK than that's really sad. Personally, I think MK3 and MK4 were not as good as the rest of the games. Like what has been said, MK2 was the best in its day, but no games from the old systems can stack up to that of the new ones. Well whatever, maybe if you play MK2 long enough you will find a pink scorpion, and then you won't have to play these lower-class new age games.

Get with it doods, 2D is like, so passé.
Whatever direction MK takes I will still buy it as I am a HUGE MK fan and always have been (even if they make something crap in the future). I agree MK3 and 4 were subpar compared to the others, 4 looked rushed. However, there is definitely a different atmosphere to MK:DA than in the classics. It feels more like a darker, more violent Tekken than a Mortal Kombat. Personally, I found Tekken quite boring (same with Virtua Fighter). Those were games I would play for free if I got the chance but would not put money out for (still remember the small Tekken tournaments I had taken part in my early college days on campus). I do like MK:DA, don't get me wrong on that point and I do agree it is a fresh approach ... but that is the key right there 'fresh' approach and being fresh sacrifices the old feeling in my opinion. Either way, whereever MK goes I will be there and constantly comforming to the new gameplay systems (good or bad) whether it is 2D, 3D, or eventually crosses the boundaries of time into 4D.

3D is alot better and will most likely be in MK6, although I do admit that 2D is pretty sweet.

Well in order for MK to go "back to its roots", the atmosphere has to be like the whole mystical, mysterious, supernatural, and outworldly kinda thing, just like in the first 2 MKs.

whaaaaa? a 2D MK in the 3D era??? is that a joke??????
I'm a huge fan of 2D fighters, and usually like them alot more than 3D ones, but I wouldn't necessarily like MK6 to be 2D. I would however like another new MK in 2D, seeing as it's a format which can be improved upon greatly. Don't get me wrong - like I just said, I love 2D fighters, but there still hasn't really been one which made you go 'WOW' with impressive graphics and whatnot. Just thinking of a new 2D MK, with hi-res, well-animated graphics, no identical characters, improved fatalities and the like, makes me very excited. Ultimately, there isn't really anything in 3D fighting games which would be impossible to implement in a 2D game.
Also, Cold, while your arguments are legit against the older MK's, they can't really be applied to the entire genre of 2D fighting. Sure, the old MK's had palette swapped ninjas and lots of characters all sharing the basic moveset, but who says a new 2D game has to be like that? I personally find there's a lot more room for innovation in 2D games than in their 3D counterparts... It's just that making such a 2D game would take huge efforts - and most likely wouldn't be as popular in the end, which is why it'd probably never get made...
Agh, I'm just rambling now...
