Well, like it or not, those characters probably are the most likely "icons."
Though, I think Shao Kahn and Goro may end up be non-playable. I can see them using Reptile and Mileena instead.

This is crazy, how can they seriously expect us to pay 60 dollars for a game like this? All they talked about was the 3 new features in the game and the 14 other things that we loved about MK that have been taken out.

I'll be editing this story to include the new one at gametrailers where Ed says "10 or 11" per side. So we might have up to 22 at this point... but really, the game is still pretty early in development and you know how the MK team is.

Let me try to make a prediction on Scorpion's storyline....He's out for revenge *yawn* This is a cross-over of the iconic (aka classic aka old skool aka stale [In some peoples minds anyways]) characters of DC and MK. So yeah you're gonna have mostly the old timers (Pre-MK: DA for Mortal Kombat and those DC characters that have been around for 30 plus years) This is not a list of who I want but who I expect to see. If it was for me Sups would have remained dead and Liu Kang buried. Hmmmm....wonder maybe Johnny might show up as the possible 11th and we all find out his green energy attack is pure kryptonite energy (j/k).
Oh yeah, I guess I'll start my pleading now *clears throat*...if Raiden does make a return...please...please...bring back the 'Light' Raiden. He's more 'iconic' than the 'Dark' version. I don't care if it totally screws up his storyline...maybe this takes place between MK4 and MKDA I don't care. PLEASSSSE bring back 'Light' Raiden.

Based on previous information presented by Ed Boon though, I have come to the conclusion that he probably will be in it.

1. There will be a few EVIL Mortal Kombat Characters (as confirmed in one of MKO's interviews with Ed Boon himself).
2. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will only be using ICONIC MK characters.

Put it together... we will be having a few iconic evil characters. Who is the big bad boss in MK? Shao Kahn!

I expected that much, since the most "iconic" characters are a mixed bag of good and evil.

Boring -- but likely, given the restrictions on the roster.
I'd say Shao Kahn and Quan Chi could potentially be swapped out for Reptile or Jax, but otherwise those bets seem pretty safe.

We're not going to get brilliant variety in such a small cast.

Quan Chi is definitely less of an icon than Reptile, but Jax is DEFINITELY not as big of an icon as Shao Kahn. He is THE boss.

20-22 chars.... perfect..... the more characters there is the harder it is to make them all unique, balanced, and properly work well with their fighting.... 20-22 chars.... seems perfect amount to me.... hell if this wasnt even a crossover game i wouldnt mind if there was only like 16.... the less chars the better made they should be.

Jax, no, Reptile yes. Reptile is more legendary (especially given the character's origins) than Jax, whose lone moment of coolness was MKII. Kahn should definitely be included, because the MK side needs that badass factor.

From a personal standpoint, Boon & Co. should at least include Ermac if they want this game to be worth even a fraction of its salt.

Chagrin about how the character has developed, he's surpassed Sonya in that corner of the MK universe, and he's also a vote for diversity.

20 is fair enough. I think that there will be 5 heroes and 5 vilains from each universe. for example:
Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Sonya
and
Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Scorpion, Kano and Mileena from MK
and
Superman, Batman, Green Latern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman and DoomsDay, Lex Luthor, Joker,Bizzaro,Brainiac from DC.

I think that it's gonna go like that.

Not a bad theory, although, I think demand and reference of heroes will probably undermine that. Dramatic convention offers license for less villains too, since traditionally they're the controlling antagonists and have the most power over the situation -- in this game, possibly the whole game.

In that respect, I wouldn't be surprised to see big bads like Shao Kahn, or Darkseid capitalizing, or directly involved in the plot that's brought about the situation in the games.
