Never believe Jax is not an iconic character. People do not tell the truth sometimes.

Not to mention Jax has been dubbed as "The Strongest Man on Earth."

Also he is the first black character. A lot of my friends like Jax, and play as him often in all of the games we play. I like Jax myself. He could be good for the storyline as well, as he could accompany Sonya.

I think they should have made the Jax the champion of mk (here we go. lol) he is the strongest man in the world. they should have gave him a very very godd story. they should have made him kick shao kahn ass instead of 5'0" liu kang. if they would have did that. omg. everyone would love the hell out of Jax

No, that would actually make me hate him more.

Anyway, love him or hate...and I do hate him...Jax is as iconic as Liu Kang (whom I also hate) or Johnny Cage or Kung Lao. Not just because he's been in a lot of games though....that's only part of it.

A deserving character. A reasonably developed one. Someone like maybe Sub-Zero or Kung Lao...or maybe a new character that gets built up for the role.

No, think about it. People hate Liu Kang based on the fact that he is the "Lame champion." Liu Kang's storyline is actually one of the deepest in the entire series, but that doesn't stop people from disliking him. People like the characters who are underrated more than anything.

Liu Kang.....deep? Liu Kang?

You're going to have to explain to me that one.

I'll try.

Liu beats Shang.
Liu gets girl.

I can't believe how deep that is.

*rolls eyes* I didn't expect the snarky MKO community to agree with me. Since you all are the main ones who bitch about him in the first place.

I think it is pretty deep how he won the first MK tournament, came home and found it in shreds, and then went on to avenge it all. He turned down his only love interest for the betterment of his realm, and then he was killed by his sworn enemy. Then his body was used as a tool for evil, while his soul had to witness and hear of the atrocities he had committed.

That's really not a bad storyline.

Jax has been in tons of games but I don't consider him iconic because

He has never at any point actually been crucial to the storyline.
And
He's basically an extension of Sonya Blade. Don't fuck with me, Jax is not as iconic as Liu fucking Kang. He's always either looking for Sonya or just hanging with her. He's there just because he hasn't been killed, and that's it.

The story itself isn't necessarily bad, the problem is Liu himself is a very shallow and one-dimensional character.

Why does he save the world? Because, you know, not saving the world would be bad. Why does he love Kitana? Because she's there. Has he had any real response to what happened with his body other than "This is bad. I must stop it."

True...but he is pretty much MK's main black guy...shallow as that may be. Also, a huge guy with metal arms is reasonably memorable an image.
I stand by that making him as iconic as Liu Kang.

Why does he need any more motivation? He was meant to be the hero since his birth, he was "The Chosen One." His attraction to Kitana isn't just about her being there.

By that argument you can say Kitana is a shitty character because she didn't care to stop Shao Kahn until she was the one being lied to. Her attraction to Liu Kang being soley based on his strength and standing.

While I really like Reptile and would say he's marginally more iconic than Jax, you have to admit, he's not an exactly an A-lister.
MK1-Secret, no story.
MK2-Lackey of the Lackey of the Big Badguy.
UMK3/Trilogy-Lackey of the Big Badguy.
MK4-Lackey of the Big Badguy 2.0.
MKDA-Lackey of the original Big Badguy, who believes that the Big Badguy is dead and so he decides to work temporarily for the Vampire who for some reason reminds me of a Pirate. Eventually rebels, zapped by egg.
MKA-Goes on a field trip to the Red Dragon's base?

Movie-Best fight in the film.
Annihilation-There are 3 of him? Wait, one just decided to leave?

What a shock, I criticize a character and people respond by attacking my favorite.

I don't understand your point about Kitana not caring to stop Kahn until she was lied to. She served Kahn because she believed he was her father and she was raised to be loyal to him. It was the realization he'd been lying to her and using her that led to turning on him.

That in itself offers some depth to her character because she was faced with a choice that would likely have caused conflict. Serving Kahn was the only life she knew...turning on him would be essentially joining the losing side. Her reasons for turning on Kahn run deeper than just because she was meant to.

The Liu/Kitana romance in general is not very well developed. I have never been a supporter of it. However, we do have a better sense of what she gets out of it based on who she is.

The Mortal Kombat story is really a puzzle. One could put it together in the simplest way possible...another could put it together in a very complex and interesting way. And certain characters simply have more pieces available...allowing them to be better put together. Liu Kang has more pieces than various characters....but Kitana has a lot more than him.

So if you want to defend Liu Kang by attacking another character, I suggest choosing someone besides Kitana just because she's my personal favorite character.

Her being your favorite had only a little to do with it. I wouldn't have brought her up, if you hadn't mentioned her romance. The romance is as much a flaw on Kitana's side, as it is Liu's. I think any character in the series can be brushed off as shallow, or taken in as deep. You could do the same things with Scorpion, Sonya, Reptile, and even Shang Tsung. It's all a matter of opinions and tastes.
